The only good example i could think of is Code Geass. Death Note and Baka Test were fun too but preferably if has strategy of troops/forces/armies.

Well f would say also kaiji (the first season is really good) and one out! Tokuchi, the protagonist of th one out, will remind you a little of yagami and L!

I believe Utawarerumono and Record of Lodoss War, both the OVA and TV, fit this. These are both epics dealing with large army forces in addition to your 'band of heroes'. As I understand it, Utawarerumono happens to be based on a tactical RPG and Lodoss really has that feel to it as well. Lodoss is more dungeons-and-dragons/ Lord of the Rings like whereas Utawarerumono is a feudal Japan sort of time period with animal ears and tails.

Thank you for the recommendations! I'll definitely check them out but I kind of forgot to mention that I prefer animations around 2006-present =\
