THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
That was a great match, as expected the representative team consist of very skilled members. Also it was nice to see that the goal keepers were given more of the spotlight for the first time~

But Araki's troll kick and Mai chan's nicknaming were the highlights for me xD

It's a shame to see Kakeru miss out, but in saying that it was probably for the best as he's certainly not at a respectable level yet, It's right to say that he doesn't have a variety or complexity in his skills atm. Looking forward to finally seeing him develop and widening his own skills, becoming less reliant on his brother. (though that's not to say he won't definitely appear again -_-)

Looks like next week back to more filler episodes, with some Maid service Dx

oh god, i hope they aren't going to turn kakeru into a one-trick pony and just level up the phi trick until it becomes unstoppable (like Naruto's rasengan). Was hoping he would develop some dribbling skills, learn the bicycle kick, or something cool...

I lol'ed at Araki labelled as the turkey trying to fly on the pic above, but even more when Mai compared him to seal. That wasn't far away from The Rock calling Paul Heyman a big fat walrus years ago, lol.

On Kakeru, I agree with everyone here that he should start growing some dribbling skills of his own and fast. He surely can't go on with the same trick over and over again, and I must say that I stongly disagree for he first time with what Seven said at the end of the episode about working on the Phi trick again. If I make an analogy here, I'd say that even strikers like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Robin van Persie use a number of different feints to shake the defenders off before finding the opportunity.

I also lol'ed when Seven described the way the goalkeeper comes out to block a loop shto and then Mai looks puzzled at the explanation... Mai's sense of pure footballing knowledge needs to be worked out. XD

About next episode, it will be some filler storywise. However, you can find most of this bit at the end of volume 16 of the manga.

The coaches should stop bringing up Suguru LOL They should get over his death :/

Kinda sad how the Phi Trick failed the second time. He should learn more feints :D

I literally LOL'd when Araki failed his jump kick and then shot a goal right after that. :P He's too cool! He deserves making the team.

Kakeru in every episode: SUGOI!!!

Next episode is maid cosplay filler fanservice thingy so I'm not that excited LOL

LOL at Araki's fail. Ahahahahaha.
Those Americans looks so big that they don't look like U-16 representatives.

Unfortunately, Kakeru wasn't chosen.

Shima (VA Seki Tomokazu, I think) has an damn epic hair style, is a aikido master and is awesome in soccer
now I really want to meet that guy who has blonde hair and who we only have seen in the op
I just have the feeling they are similiar

I thought it was really nice that Yusuke and Kakeru played together but that didn't happen a lot :(
but I think Onimaru and Yusuke is also a nice combination an dthat Sera is pretty cool but I don't see hima as the new Suguru or something like Yusuke did

Mai's nicknaming for Shima as topknot kid and for Onimaru bed head kid was funny, but it did feel like Seven opinion>,> they have cool hairstyles, right!
Araki is way more epic than Sera like his awesome fail jump kick and then after failing still make a goal

so when Kakeru did his first dribble in the test match I just somehow knew he was going to do the Phi Trick and I knew it was stupid to do it a second time (like the Kamakura match)

btw is a goal keeper allowed to wear a cap, the keeper was good but it's not smart to wear a cap, isn't it?

Goalkeeper looks hipster with the cap. I like how Mai gives the players funny nicknames such as bed hair kid =D

Like how this U-16 team is playing, looking forward to see more development in skills and teamwork.

Great match!

Lol at the American character designs, and the "Everything's Big in Texas" portrayal!!
Why are we the first ones to pull on jerseys?

And, why didn't they personify at least one American player. In every other match in this whole series, they gave skills and a personality to at least 1 player...

Kakeru needs to step us his game if he wants to get back on that field!
Yea, he's got skills, but not enough experience and diversity to handle that level of play.

But, Seven's right. He needs to work on his speed and precision/penetration most of all!

Next ep seems like filler, hopefully they'll be at least some football in it!

Urahara Out!!

Nice to know Kakeru's finally going to train and improve on his own. I hope he eventually turns into a badass without any help from his brother.

But damn it, not another fanservice episode.

In reality is quite stupid for a goalkeeper to wear a cup because it can limit his vision.

Oh well, the sun can limit his vision even more. Many goalkeepers use it in Brazil.

Kakeru's improvement is super slow. I mean come on, it doesn't go anywhere. It's like he's keep going back from the very start while others get getting the best of him.

Agree, I think we'll need at least another 30 episodes for see him become good.

I concur.

Slow improvement is really not a good recipe for success and I keep on saying that Kakeru has to start learning lots of new stuff quickly instead of relying on that only trick.
