I guess it falls somewhere between Tsundere and Kuudere. Think Makise Kurisu from Steins;Gate for one example. Though I like Misaka from Index/Railgun and Chidori from FMP, I guess they are Tsundere if anything.

Kugimiya Rie is Kugimiya Rie. Taiga is good, the others are pretty terrible (Shana is almost ok, Louise is... just kill her, please).

Haruhi is nice too though... ugh, I guess I'm just a fan of a character that opens up a bit as time goes on and isn't all deredere from the start?

Hitagi Senjougahara is a Kuudere, so I'll go with that.

I would choose Yandere, but they either don't last too long to get any development, or ruin already good characters(as in transforming sane characters into Yanderes near the end of the series).

Personally, I love danderes and kuuderes. They're the best characters, imo. However, so are yanderes. You have to admit that Yuno made Mirai Nikki. They're just so entertaining.

Derederes can be alright, but the rest are kinda annoying. And unless it's a special exception, I dislike tsunderes very much.

Well, that depends. If I just took all the archetypical girls I liked and counted them, I'm sure tsundere would be in the majority. Yet if I looked at all the tsundere I've seen, the ones I could put up with would definitely lose out. So with apologies to Makise, Asuka, etc., I have to say I fucking hate the archetype. Certainly, it has potential, but I'm not impressed with the basic idea. And the thing is, tons of authors don't go beyond the basic idea.
Then on the flipside, there's yandere. I've seen a few and I like batshit characters in general so I liked most of them. I'd say they're my favourite dere archetype. And yet I can't say I've seen any really impressive characters in that category. Once you get past the Holy Shit Factor, just about all the yandere I've seen were utterly shallow.

You're really arguing with the Yandere part? Remember the part when she kidnapped him? Or the part where Araragi was seriously worried she'd kill a certain girl? Or the part where she threatened him all of her scenes?

She said she'd hug him if he was covered in feces. That sounds like something a yandere would say

I did not realize there were that many deres to begin with. I would have to say Yandere though, at least they are always interesting. Tsunderes are boring and it annoys me when the characters act cold and then melt later...

You probably already know this but tsunderes have actually been separate into two groups, by fans and the interwebs I presume. Basically a Type A and a Type B.

Type A are the TsunTsun. They're always pissed off most of the time, your generic Kugimiya Rie tsundere usually falls into this category.

Then there are the Type B, they're mostly normal most of the time and usually require something to trigger their "tsun" or "harsh mood". I find this trait more similar among male characters than female.

So what I'm basically saying is, not all tsunderes require the melting.

Yes I am aware. I am not a huge fan of romance anime though and most dere types are romance archetypes. I would never go into an anime because of the dere type, however I can deal with most characters.

Tough choice, although I'd have to say either Deredere because you'd want to meet a girl like that in real life, or Yandere just because they're usually good looking and they make the plot more interesting.

Type B are closer to a more normal behavior that only acts tsun in certain situations but not as a default pattern to every thing. Many times their tsun has a reason too since the guy is teasing them. This tsundere are not like those Kugimiya Rie lolis that never shut-up and hit people and their dere is more honest. They are more mature and don't act all tsun after showing little affection(dere) to hide themselves because they are too immature to show their feelings.
Examples are amazing characters like Makise Kurisu and Isayama Yomi.

I find that the application of the _____dere fad has gotten a bit out of hand. Why does the fanbase seem so intent on classifying every character like this when the basic descriptions are so limited? And to that end it seems like people add a new _____dere when nothing else from jargon can apply. I've found it at least uncommon for tsundere and kuudere to overlap as the cast member in question need not necessarily kick your face in or be cynical/blunt. And dandare, in all honesty, seems more like a variant on the kuudere.

So what else are we going to add to the dictionary? Kamidere? Genkidere? Sugoidere? This whole phenomenon is just ridiculous. @_@

@Akito_Kinomoto

It makes it easier to point out a character's traits and criticize them. I think. Either that, or it's that one thing where people just like to group and categorize things.

Yandere>Tsundere> rest for me.
Yandere are like even better than Tsundere because:

We can see so much tsundere, that the genre becomes boring after some times (like shonen, well imo)
Yandere prove their love by being much more than just words and slapsticks. And usually have a real backstory as a reason for that.

Well, I just love Yandere, much more attaching than basic Tsundere...
