Capos are useful for achieving certain chords that are normally impossible without changing your tuning drastically.
"Impossible" chords which aren't necessary for beginners.
Or maybe I'm just too used to never needing capos because I don't have one so I do some voodoo and then it works.
Many "beginner" songs use capos. Not only do they allow for complex chords to be done easily, they also function as tuning on-the-fly. Some capos even allow you to press down on select strings only.

That's only if the OP wants to learn songs that "need" capos, and you can always re-adapt.

practise practise practise! try to learn some easy well known songs or if not just learn parts of the songs to get an idea to explore the guitars sounds and let your fingers stretch to become more familiar to play the guitar.

also if you want to learn songs choose tabs because they are easier but thats my opinion
please make my breakfast every morning for me sweet cheeks! *bowling position"

Played guitar for 6 years. Had a teacher for several months and then began learning independently.
Personally I feel that you have to truly enjoy playing an instrument before you can get good at it. Sure the best musicians practiced 8 hours a day and it does sound tough, but i'm pretty sure the hours passed by rather quick because they actually loved playing guitar.
To me, guitar is more similar to a video game than it is to homework or school. This could partially be because my parents never supported my playing lol! I've always had fun playing and when I get bored, I simply stop. That's how I've progressed these past few years. My advice is not to set goals for yourself or force yourself but rather just have fun. Its a lot more fun to just go for the songs you want to learn rather than spending hours practicing scales every day( of course this is helpful too) With only 6 years of experience I am not the best authority on guitar but this is personally how I learned over the years.
As for learning software/programs, I torrented a version of guitar pro and used ultimate guitar as my resource. LOL!
This probably didn't help at all. HAHAHA. o well

Can you tell me some of the sources that you used that actually helped you then? Like I said in the OP, I'm thinking about subscribing to JamPlay. Is this a good idea?
