THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The battle of Pluto begins. The fighter squadron is on its own as the Yamato comes under fierce attack. Trvia question: What is the difference between a space ship and a submarine? Stay tuned for our next exciting episode to find out!

Speaking of ship(ping), it looks like the presence and higher visibility of other female characters aboard will lead to a few more romantic moments.
Please don't feed the trolls!

Fierce attacks indeed from the enemy Reflecting Mirror Cannon, kind of deceiving. The moment those attacks started till the Yamato sinking, all that was breathtaking! I think I forgot to breath properly during that. And seriously the enemy has no right criticizing the Yamato saying it's an "ugly" ship, I love Yamato and I'd totally like to work as a member. The Black Tiger squadron, so manly ♥

Well with six episodes of this on the backlog might as well tackle it down. I love the attention to detail on all their displays in this, even on scenes when it really doesnt matter they still have them glowing and still quire detailed with information, revolving 3d structures of objects, or just numbers keeping track of stuff, and then the glow and reflection on peoples glasses or faces.

Still also always like their charts and maps.

Kodai is still a great character and so versatile Tactical Officer and now part of the fighter squad, though would have liked screentime of him in that role. Though in this situation I wonder how he can rise to meet the challenge of his role. With only 361 days left until the end of humanity, the situation still seems hopeless for Yamato. Four hits with the Reflecting Satellite Cannon and being sunk and theyve still not figure out the Gamillans attack? I wonder why wont the lady try to back calculate the trajectory?

Looks like the Yamato was sunk from the last satellite attack. Though that was obviously not the case, the Yamato still isn't in a good position. I don't quite remember what happened in the original series since it's been so long.

The Battle of Pluto has been a kickass battle so far. I'm also getting the impression that there's going to be more emphasis on male/female relationships than there was in the original series.

That was one hell of an episode.

Akira being transferred to the fighter squadron with the orders of Kodai was pretty good. More romantic moments, eh? Though in the original TV series, Akira is a guy. >.>

Looks like Yamato took damage even if they had shields.

"We've been hit. Gravity is down. Are we done for ? ... Don't look under ma skirt" ... Talk about breaking the tension.
And what's with this highschooler reaction from the blonde, hiding when she spots Kodai chating with the white haired girl ?
Didn't expect this show to be this lighthearted :(

Am I the only one here who was completely pissed off by the fact that they didn't just blow up Pluto with their wave motion gun? Instead, they went with the plan that has the most risk, that actually caused a lot of people to die in the Pluto battle when it was completely preventable...

I just don't get it...
Losing a Pluto isn't really that much of a big deal when considering the fact that humanity's continued existence is on the line here...

This show is so awesome. I kept postponing this because I assumed that it would be an insufferable loquacious right wing wanking of Japanese nationalism as well as the Yamato being a show pony with no tension and all plot armour.

How wrong I was! This show is really good.

Joke's on them...Pluto isn't a major planet anymore. They could've blown it to bits with their consciences clear, if only the story was written about 30 years later.

I realized that each episode leads to the other, thanks to the interest that the narration always arouses. This time, too, the narration juggles well, alternating moments of daily life with contexts concerning the brutal war between the Terrans and the aliens. Doing so makes the growth and knowledge of the characters more and more detailed and detailed. The battles are always well prepared and with a compelling atmosphere. The technical side as the graphic one, is well realized, the same for the soundtrack, suitable for various situations. I do not know the original series as well as this one, but I want in the future to review it too in order to make the comparison between the two.

If this satellite laser cannon was in the original Yamato, than I see an incredible homage to it in Hideaki Anno's Nadia (again!), I mean the Tower of Babylon. I didn't expect to remember so many references by watching Yamato haha.

The battle itself ended on a cliffganger, oh well. I wonder why didn't the brief zero-gravity moment go anywhere? Looks like everything was repaired soon.

I also don't yet know whether some of the more lighthearted moments in the show which are used to highlight character relationships are actually fitting. I mean those reactions from Yuki and the female medic. But I'm not really allergic to this type of stuff.

By the way, it looks like Gamilas have some sort of racial hierarchy out there. Why do they have humans fighting for them? I want to know more!
