srry sure this has been done but I can't look at every persons lists to find their top tens - I hope nobody is sick of talking about their faves! (not me ^^)

i'm always trying to find the BEST of the best and it is so difficult.

I want to know what you are MOST passionate about -any genre at all. I'm asking for only 3 cause lets face it, we could all go on about this.

Since this is in the Recommendations area, I plan on taking your responses very seriously! thanks!!

My top 3 would be:
Code Geass, because I love the characters. Lelouch and CC are just the best characters out there.
Darker than Black, because of the nice mix of action and mystery. Hei is pretty epic as well.
Ranma 1/2, I love the idea of the cross gender transformation. It's hilarious.

Higurashi - Great psychological thriller. First season is mind fuck after mind fuck. Second season wraps up everything beautifully.
Monster - No words can describe the greatness of this show.
Steins;Gate - Mesh of all sorts of genres executed perfectly with an edge-of-your-seat second half that ends with a great heartwarming finale.

My top 3 (really hard to pick!!!) would be...

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - WAY better than the first series. Better overall story and the characters are unforgettable. You will bond with them very quickly.

Code Geass - Story is awesome, characters are awesome, action is awesome, the show is awesome. Besides, Lelouch has to be one of the hottest anime characters ever, and CC is just awesome.

Mushishi - Nice, relaxing story you can watch after a hard day. Each episode is it's own story and keaves you to think at the end. Ginko is cool, too.

I also love BACCANO!, Clannad, and Darker Than BLACK, but the above are probably my top 3. :)

Bakemonogatari - Mentally unstable couple, with masterful writing from NisiOisin
Spice & Wolf - Amazing romance with economic subtexts and wonderful immersion
Clannad Afterstory - Perfection. What can I say. The VN is far better though.

Rose of Versailles - Historical drama set during the French revolution. Noted for its historical accuracy and having one of the strongest and most well-developed female leads in all of anime.

Haibane Renmei - Fantasy drama featuring the Haibane, angel-like creatures with charcoal grey wings.

Princess Tutu - A magical girl series about ballet dancing, which also happens to be the best magical girl series I have seen. A bit slow to start, but is amazing once it gets going.

So you are probably wondering why Haibane isn't on my favourites list, right? Well, that's because I have decided to use it to promote more obscure/underwatched series, and going off your scores, I could see you enjoying...

Flag - A relatively realistic mecha series set in a fictional central Asian country on the verge of civil war. It is about a reporter who joins a UN spec ops unit in order to retreive a flag that is symbolic for the peace process. This anime is told almost entirely through the perspective of a camera lens, and while the core plot may not be too appealing, it makes up for it in the way the plot is executed, providing plenty of background on the country they are fighting in as well as a glimpse into the lives of the UNF workers the main character lives with during the missin.

Gah, so hard. Well, if I HAVE to narrow it down to 3, it's probably the following:

1: Fate/Zero
2: FMA: Brotherhood
3: Monogatari series. Yes, I'm cheating and counting Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari AND the not yet finished Kizumonogatari because having read the LN I know it will be fucking awesome.

Inital D: Has the best underdog and surprise moments.

Hikaru no go: Go is a great game, and even if you are new to the game when you watch it (like I was) it is very easy to understand what the anime is about. Great anime.

Akagi: Best psychological and deep thinking anime.

Hunter x Hunter: Because unlike other fighting shounens it has a very good story and no cliche stuff, and isn't childish, you love every character, and much more that would take forever to describe

Fullmetal Alchemist: Finished it around the new year...just amazing. Can get very dark at certain moments, which is always welcome :P

Death Note: Couldn't stop watching once I started until episode 24 where I blew an epic fuse and had to take a 3-day rest before I continued... This as well is the others doesn't have the typical good vs evil stuff, or rather has a liiiiiiittle bit of it with a twist so it's a very good thing.

These are the only shounens anime atm that I'd give a 10

It's so tough to pick 3 so I'll do my top 5 :D

Elfen Lied- It really makes you question human nature and makes you look at how you treat other people. Lucy is also one of my favorite characters. Probably tied with FMA Brotherhood for my favorite series overall

FMA Brotherhood- Nuff said. Like everything else on this list, absolutely amazing, dark and dramatic at some points, lighthearted and hilarious at others.

Mawaru Penguindrum- The series is so strange, but that's what makes it so good. Filled with symbolism, incredible characters, and an ending that made even me shed a few manly tears

Sora no Otoshimono- I'm a pretty big ecchi fan, and this is at the top of my list. It has stunning animation, and I've almost done spit takes because its so fun, and then five minutes later it'll pull on your heartstrings

Haibane Renmei - Just incredible. Always leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling
