For some odd reason, some people think "JRPG" is its own sub-genre based off of stereotypes, as if there are no exceptions to the generalizations they think are exclusive to Japanese-developed RPG's. So when games like Demon's/Dark Souls come along, you'll see stuff like "OMG no spikey-haired kids, it's a WRPG, not a JRPG!" on video game forums. It's rather silly lol. Doesn't upset me though. Haters gonna hate. It's a sub-genre to differentiate the different styles of gameplay/character/story, the region in which it was developed doesn't really matter. I haven't played Demon's Souls, but from the videos I've seen it's definitely more of a western-style RPG. Similarly, a western developed game that followed the style of traditional JRPGs would considered a Japanese-style RPG. Deamon souls is nothing like any PC style RPG i ever played [ have you ever played a Proper PC style RPG like Ulitma or Black Onyx thats nothing lIke deamons souls You apologized and kept going? That's amazing Enjolras o_o You know, you can message him over his profile... ![]() ![]() |

Dodonpachi Resurrection. It's an import, and it can be expensive, but it's worth it. It's just a bullet hell game, so you really don't need to know any Japanese to play it. Alan Wake is also worth playing. |

I guess that could apply to both. But when it comes to the 360's failure, it's partly due to the lack of familiarity with the original Xbox. Micrsoft tried to reel in the "PS2 crowd" with games like Blue Dragon, Lost Oddessy, ect. But the 360 was bound to fail IMO. Haters gonna hate. Erm...guys and girls...little off topic... Yeah guys stay on topic, don't start another one of these damn JRPG Vs WRPG debates again for god sakes. Back on topic, yes Nis america published the games, my bad. I was not referring to world wide popularity, i was referring to popularity in america. Nis america is a small publisher, just like atlus and nis america publishes games exclusively from japan for the US and thats what i like bout them. Some of these companies may be very known titles in japan, but in america they don't appeal to the broader fanbase as much, that explains why alot of the games go up in value because most of them go out of print or become limited. But either way, most of the nis america, Akyse, and Natsumi games that i have played, i really enjoy my self. Atelier series, shin megami tensei, record of agarest war and Disgaea are great and so is Mana khemia. But if you live in the US, you better make sure you buy them when they come out, other wise you can dealing with high prices. Disgaea is a series that has sold really well, so its kind of acception. But other franchises like atelier, Ar tonelico, or Neptunia stopped distributing the titles. Modified by ArtemisX, 08-05-12, 4:25 PM |
