That was not the point I wished to reiterate- the very title of the topic raises that point and most of the discussion afterwards has been centered around it. What has not been given much consideration, as far as I can see, is that her comment -racist or not- was derisive towards her team mates and not something which would be consider acceptable in an event defined by national unity and world wide participation. Secondly I think that trying to argue about semantics here is rather missing the point. The athlete is clearly aggravated that many of those involved in the Olympic team are not ethnically Greek, and that sentiment is one which is preoccupied with race. Thus it is a racist comment, even if her moronic joke is technically correct.

Some may feel that there is a legitimate case to be made that those people should not be allowed to join the Greek Olympic team, and that perhaps the Greek olympic team should include only people who are Greek by birth. In that situation, the best way to open up discussions on the subject directly, rather than make obnoxious remarks about the Mosquitos getting to enjoy the taste of home.

Besides taking from her mosquito reference who is a recent fear along with her population connection i doubt her reference was including any small number in the team or some second-third generation African(that is more likely to be on the team) but more likely at the recent immigration waves. Also those athletes are in London, her joke wouldn't make sense since she's talking about the African mosquitos appearing in Greece right now. Her joke will only make sense correlating with recent immigration waves in Greece(lets not forget Greece didn't have ships with African slaves transporter there in the past, any racist issues arising would be recent).

The other shit was just you not getting it. What i was saying is that she's complaining about immigrants currently in her country and not about something in the Olympic team. Complaining about immigrants doesn't mean is not racist. It can be racist or not depending on your reasons for complaining. It doesn't change the fact that is a complain about immigrants. The nature of it is another matter. I never claimed that she can't have racist motives.
And btw i doubt that she just speaks about black people and not all those moving out their countries like Lybia, Egypt and Syria lately. Other countries have different situations you know, they ain't all the same like the US. If you ever went to Greece you will realize the racist people there show their racism against foreigners in general and don't specify black people as their main target.
And if you think about it is logical. You can't be an American white racist and go hating all the other non American whites because you are a non American white yourself since all people in America came from all over the world except the Indians. So you just pick the major color difference to hate upon and black people become the main target, them initially coming in the US as slaves made it easier for our US racist guy to view them as the most inferior meant to eternally be his slaves and go all hating them for trying to live like him and not stay under his foot.
Those conditions are highly different in a country like Greece though. If you are a Greek racist, first you didn't specifically had black slave culture US style and you have thousand of years of history to lean on and feel that all the others are barbarians, your family tree has been there since ancient times and you don't need to find a more specific target because you are worried exposing yourself as a foreigner too. You can just hate every freaking one of those foreigners.
Blacks, whites and anything else they are all inferior barbarians you can hate.
The way you reacted makes me suspect that you are probably black and imitatively reacted in the usual "it must be specifically against black people" because of the place you grew up and the things you heard in your specific environment.
