i have tried uploading a .gif image onto my avatar but after uploading the image always turns out to be a .jpg image and it doesn't move.

i have seen some users with .gif images as their avatar/profile so i know its possible.

any advice?

It's not possible to have an animated .gif image as profile picture. When you upload a profile picture it is always converted into .jpg format so the animation information gets lost and you will only have a static image.

For forum avatars you can use animated gifs. If there's a problem with the image you should get an error message. If you don't get a message and it's still not moving, please post the image here so I can test it.

may i use any of these http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=27792 gifs in my avatar? and if yes how? i tried by saving the gif in my computer as save as and also by saving the link but didnt work

It seems like most users offered their images for others so you can use them. Some aren't made by the people who posted them though. But most of those images can't be used as avatar anyway because they are too large. The restrictions are a maximum of

100px width
125px height
file size smaller than 51 kb

You first have to save the image on your computer and can then upload it here.

thank you for the assistance and prompt reply. i have managed to find out the problem. the reason why my gif image doesn't have any animation is because i edited it. the problem lies with me.

I'm having trouble uploading and removing my profile picure.... its annoying. trying to upload this http://i.imgur.com/AxDRP.jpg ....

just have to be patient and it will change eventually..clearing your cache also helps(for the record i see the one you linked)
