Nsatsume Yuujinchou Shi, why so low?

And something that sells well/has fans is not automatically good, whether you are in Japan or in downtown Hollywood, where best seller shit is produced everyday.

It isn't a surprise that anime of AKB0048 its on the list. All about the group sells a lot.

Granted, the only relationship sales was ever supposed to have with anything is popularity. More specifically, popularity among the subset of anime fans who buy DVDs and BDs. So no, good or bad sales doesn't mean a show is good or bad; but then there is no one objective measure that determines if a show is good or bad to begin with, so it's kind of stating the obvious that sales can't do it either.

Essentially, whether a show is good or bad is only relevant on the level of the individual, because no two people will ever agree on the exact set of shows that are (read: they think are) good or bad. There will always be a disagreement somewhere. In practical terms, sales are much, much, much more important than what you or I think is good or bad. The success of a product is all about aggregate fan reaction. In that sense, a show that sells well is "good at bringing enjoyment to a large number of people", regardless of whether you or I think it's well made.

Well... if it had tapped into the AKB fanbase it would have sold much much more than this. Doesn't seem that it has, though, given that it only sold 7k despite being incredibly cheap and being required to be eligible for an event ticket.

I wonder what would happen if they really went all-out, featured the most popular girls from the main AKB group, included exclusive singles, etc. That could be fearsome indeed.

Still better sales for AKB than I excepted. But IO still feel bad that a lot of people hate this show. It is not perfect but really enjoyable for me

I see Tasogare Otome X Amnesia didn't start off good. Didn't even break 3K sales.

It feels nice inside seeing them on the list, even if the sales aren't really THAT amazing.

Most of the volumes of this are being purchased as part of the Gravure 4 U blu-ray + minigame bundles. Those are not counted by Oricon because they're solicited as PS3 games instead of BD home video releases. Count those and the series is actually averaging about 25k, which makes it the 24th or 25th best selling show from the year 2000 onwards, i.e. very very very good.

That's extremely good to hear! Now they just need to make/announce a season 2 and/or make a Hibiki spin-off ;D
