Inu x Boku, YAYYYYYYYYYY! Now we know that this has good stable sales!

AKB0048, not bad.

And WHOAH Hyouka...:O Not even you are a ~10k seller? I SERIOUSLY fear for KuroBas now. D: D: uhuhu....

Not bad, but not good either, Natsuiro.

Asa made sold less than I thought it would.Tamayura, going well.Brave 10, ouch, Sengoku Collection sales went down.

... whatever, Japan. :(

I rarely feel this disappointed to see a show bomb... Tsuritama certainly deserves more. Sure, it's really pricey and the Amazon/Aniplex dispute probably didn't help the matter, but still...

Natsuiro looks good. If it can average 4k that'd be pretty great considering it's low budget.

After last week I'm not too surprised about Hyouka.

Tsuritama fans, those are only the DVD numbers. It's possible that Tsuritama sold a few thousand BDs (say 1.5-2k) so those aren't the final numbers for it.

I'm hoping that we'll get a second week for Saki Achiga-hen, but I'm not sure how much longer the full list will be on Thursday.

Its sold like 11 volume with 2 episode per each (and expensive as fuck)
If the number keep in 7k-9k per volume in averages, its still good enough.

but isn't the first volume heavily discounted? :/ D:
So sales may decrease for the next volume by maybe ~1k?

Noooooo, Tsuritama. ;_; This is really sad. Even with the BD numbers it's probably not going to be great. I definitely would have bought it if it weren't for the Aniplex thing; can't afford it from elsewhere right now. Really wish I could.

No, but there is likely to be a drop as the later volumes come out because it happens to everything. So if Hyouka can get a solid second week (add another 2k or so) that'd be good for it.

btw, I think I can ask here but how many days do you have to wait to know how well a series is doing after its been solicited? I'm talking about arcana familgia here.

Not even Hyouka reached 10k in its first week huh.
Is it me or Nyaruko's sales didn't change this week. I was sure it can add at least 1k more.
And Natsuiro sold a bit higher than I thought considering its QUALITY.
Jormungand's sales isn't bad but it isn't good either. And lol Zetman.
Despite being a stellar season, the sales for the ones that came out aren't really reflecting it that much :/
Let's see if AW and Kuroko will show a higher number. F/Z is a given so that doesn't count.

I think AW will sell less than Hyouka considering its rankings.

Kuroko is what I'm not sure about. It isn't like Nyaruko or Hyouka where it depends on a BD alone. It has even sales in both BDs and DVDs and rankings have been somewhat steady...still.....sigh I have to wait for another month before I know how well it does.

But seriously, it will be so funny if it beats both Hyouka and Nyaruko....a fujoshi show ruling again...lol.

Discounted first volume. It'll likely drop. Actually everything in the top 5 this season is a discounted first volume or includes am event ticket except Hyouka.

No, every volume of Hyouka costs the same, ¥7350 MSRP. Kadokawa are bastards and won't even give me one volume of relief, but I'll buy it all because I'm a masochist. (And because the show is fucking amazing)

About the whole "it's not good for KyoAni", I think after Nichijou (and SoraAge, but nobody remembers that poor show) people it'd be good to give up on this "KyoAni must sell 20k or they failed" mindset. Almost 8k first week would be good for any other studio. Especially when the source material is seeing utterly enormous increases in sales (seriously, the novels are selling like crazy thanks to the anime). Hyouka is doing just fine, even if I of course would always like to see more from the shows I enjoy.

You potentially have to wait until the day sales numbers are released. But generally it's pretty bad to be ranking 10,000 or worse after your first episode has aired. Not a good sign. Nothing saying that can't turn around completely though.

4200 yen MSRP for one episode is discounted? That's double the price of AKB0048.

And AKB is discounted twice as much as normal shows - it's a total anomaly. So yes, Natsu-iro v1 is ¥4,200 while the remaining 5 are your typical ¥7,350. I know it's less episodes, but that doesn't matter so much as discounted first volumes almost always getting a sales bump and dropping from v2+.

I don't think it'll drop by half or anything, but it'll definitely drop more than if it were ¥7350 (in which case it would have sold less than this.) They should have bundled a Sphere single in with it or something, would have sold 10k min. There is a CD bundled with it but it's just a character song from what I gather.

Nobody who tracked preorder rankings expected 15-20k though. It was performing, well, just like an 8k seller, which it is.

Honestly, if any studio other than KyoAni did a subtle mystery show like Hyouka, everyone would have expected a 2k bomb. Especially for an 11 disc Kadokawa "fuck the consumer" release. But it's got KyoAni's name attached so people think it has to sell 20k... isn't that odd? Hyouka was never going to sell 20k. Instead it's selling "good" on home video and increasing novel sales like crazy. That's about hwat a show like this can hope to do.

I agree with the broader point that negative internet reaction, specifically English fandom internet reaction, has little to no correlation with sales though. The whiners on MAL or ANN or AnimeSuki bitching about shows they hate don't matter at all.

That's a lot less than I expected it to sell, to be honest. The show is really good so I thought it would sell at least around 5000, but it seems it wasn't received as well as I had hoped...

I'll also never stop crying about how badly Kimi to Boku does.

And something that sells well/has fans is not automatically good, whether you are in Japan or in downtown Hollywood, where best seller shit is produced everyday.

Granted, the only relationship sales was ever supposed to have with anything is popularity. More specifically, popularity among the subset of anime fans who buy DVDs and BDs. So no, good or bad sales doesn't mean a show is good or bad; but then there is no one objective measure that determines if a show is good or bad to begin with, so it's kind of stating the obvious that sales can't do it either.

Essentially, whether a show is good or bad is only relevant on the level of the individual, because no two people will ever agree on the exact set of shows that are (read: they think are) good or bad. There will always be a disagreement somewhere. In practical terms, sales are much, much, much more important than what you or I think is good or bad. The success of a product is all about aggregate fan reaction. In that sense, a show that sells well is "good at bringing enjoyment to a large number of people", regardless of whether you or I think it's well made.

It isn't a surprise that anime of AKB0048 its on the list. All about the group sells a lot.

Well... if it had tapped into the AKB fanbase it would have sold much much more than this. Doesn't seem that it has, though, given that it only sold 7k despite being incredibly cheap and being required to be eligible for an event ticket.

I wonder what would happen if they really went all-out, featured the most popular girls from the main AKB group, included exclusive singles, etc. That could be fearsome indeed.

Still better sales for AKB than I excepted. But IO still feel bad that a lot of people hate this show. It is not perfect but really enjoyable for me

I see Tasogare Otome X Amnesia didn't start off good. Didn't even break 3K sales.

I'm scratching my head hardcore at pretty much all of these being on the list.
