If this has been done before, I apologize. I'm not gonna scroll through to check.

What do you think of people of the west liking anime?

I think it's great! It just sucks that options to watch a lot of titles are limited /risky (for downloaders).

I find they tend to be stupider on average. Both in their attitude about it and anyone who would willingly want to watch edited dubs makes me scratch my head.

No usually dubs edit things out, which is very disappointing. So subs in my opinion are way better.

I think it depends on the person. I've met a lot of idiotic kids that weren't fans as much as they were kids being overly obsessed at whatever's in front of them. I've met a lot of fans that were sensible. I know a lot of people on both sides of the sub/dub fence (me being on the former, a couple good friends being on the latter).

I myself am from the west. I wouldn't want to be without anime. A lot of the shows fit more in with my personality than western shows ever could, especially considering a lot of the stuff on TV here in the USA has been dumbed down so much the past few years that I can't find a hint of anything educational, much less remotely amusing. It's all that 'reality' garbage that isn't real at all.

They're cool when they know what there talking about, though most people I met that watch anime only want to talk about shows that aired on Cartoon Network.

A little disappointing to my tastes honestly. The recent revival of Toonami shows exactly what I mean. Fun shows like Lupin the Third and Detective Conan are swept aside in favor of these gritty, angsty and gory shows like Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins.

Magical Girl shows in particular don't appeal enough to western audiences and many networks know it, so they're afraid to risk their money licensing them, which is a shame because Heartcatch Precure would fit right in among action shonen like Bleach and DBZ, and Princess Tutu's a great mindscrewy show that's already been dubbed.

I'm sure there are more people who watch anime outside of Japan than inside Japan. There may be even more people in just the U.S. than Japan. Course, most Japanese people are oblivious of the situation.

I did say edited dubs. Like 4Kids/Nelvana/Funi stuff

Why people want to watch a dub that edits stuff out (and there are.. not just kids either) and changes stuff is beyond me.

Considering Lupin and Conan are kid's shows in Japan, they don't really belong on Adult Swim

Correction: Don't appeal to American audiences. Quite a few western companies have PreCure, Ojamajo Doremi, and other magical girl stuff. It's just America that's hung up about it. Mainly because female-lead starring shows don't really sell well, and there's a stigma that girls will watch 'boy shows' but boys wont watch girl shows. Which is why only like 1 female-starring show gets made every 4 years or so. And usually it falls into the 'cute doll show' like Care Bears or My Little Pony, or 'perfect, flawless, kick butt just-like-one-of-the-guys-so-its-okay-to-watch-this-show-boys female' like Kim Possible. Stuff like magical girl which plays up femininity would never work in America due to those stigma and bias.

Which is weird because that's where they were, instead of Toonami, which used to have kids shows like Sailor Moon and Hamtaro.

Well I apologize to the folks in Canada, because I thought Western specifically meant America.

Well as a westerner my self, all I will say is our tastes compared to japan are quite different. Certain shows here get lots of fame and hardly any in Japan. I would like to see a site like this expect mainly for the Japanese/eastern fanbase. I bet their ranking and such would vary a whole bunch.

We westerners seem to go more for action type shows, the moe popularity seems quite different too. Fandom of k-on is way stronger in japan, and for Clannad is way weaker to my understanding. And key in general is way weaker in the east minus the un-aired little busters. I can almost be certain that k-on would win by more than double in a popularity poll in japan and that's being nice. The female fanbase for sure is waaaayy different. shows like tiger and bunny and kuroko no basket and inazuma eleven seem to be a huge hits with the girls over in japan.

I think we miss a lot of good shows some times because we don't look over at japan enough I find good shows all the time that have little hype here and a lot over there, try them out and enjoy them a lot.

Another thing I notice is if the anime fails, the franchise is basically considered dead here in the west.

I think our westerner fan base has a lot more of shitty people who just bootleg all day long and don't give a shit. Westerns bitch about things to make excuses why something is too expensive or how they messed up their subs if it bothers you fucking learn Japanese. Saying it isn't available these days is basically bullshit, with the exception of some non north american countries.

I don't mind the western anime fanbase. Although we don't have much influence on the anime market, we do our part at times.

western applies to the entire continent of north america, and south america, and to some people's definition even most of europe
