According to Otanews, the movie of Toaru Majutsu no Index, previously announced here, was confirmed to be released in February 2013. The movie will consist of a completely original story written and illustrated by the original author, Kazuma Kamachi.

Synopsis
Endymion: the space elevator of Academy City. On the day of its anticipated completion, Touma and Index encounter Alisa Meigo, a Level 0 girl. Index and Alisa become friends through the inscrutable bond of "ravenous eating". The three were hanging around after school, when suddenly Stiyl and another magic-side being come assaulting them, their target being Alisa. Why is Alisa, who is also on the magic side, being targeted? Having encountered a full-throttle attack from the magic side, Academy City enacts the deployment of the discipline maintenance squad led by the female leader, Shut-Aura. As the turmoil surrounding Touma, Index, and Alisa continues to worsen, Stiyl says, "That girl there may just cause war between the magic side and the science side." When magic and science cross paths, at Endymion the story unfolds!

In addition, an official site for a new Toaru Majutsu no Index game was opened, announcing a collaboration between Bandai Namco Games and Guyzware. Both Toaru Majutsu no Index and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun have had PSP game adaptations in the past, the former being a 3D battle action game created by Shade and the latter being a 3D adventure novel game released by Ascii Media Works.

Guyzware has made PSP adaptations for Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai and Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai, and they are also currently developing a game for Accel World, to be released on the PS3 and PSP.

More information will be made available on volume 521 of Dengeki Playstation, to be released on June 28, 2012.

Its amazing how people reply to topics without reading them, it really is.

Index series is fine and all but until I see an actual esper vs mage fight I will never be satisfied with this. The synopsis of this movie does look promising but I've been plenty disappointed by Raildex in the past.

Maybe we'll be lucky and they'll make Touma in Chibi form. -sarcasm-

Anyways I'm excited we finally have a date. Now I have something to look forward to a few months later when it's subbed and out for download!

No I read that it is going to be created by the writer, but will it relate to what actually happens in the series (like a plot movement) or is this a side story?

Looking at the cast list, it doesn't seem as though he will appear in the movie. They list a fair number of side characters, but not him. You'd think they would mention him in the article if he had a part, right?
