Raigerzero said: First, people who are familiar with the original Nirvash seem to believe that this is that Nirvash, chief among them include Truth and Ivica Tanovic I believe that Ivica, knowing Eureka, may have knowledge about the original Nirvash, though at this point I doubt he's actually seen or made contact with it; I think he just acknowledges that the Type I carries on its legacy, with its previous pilot being Eureka, and all. As for Truth, I think it's too early to say. Personally, I see Truth as a product of this world, or don't believe that he has a conscious memory of original Earth (if he indeed hails from there, in some way), but nonetheless feels that something is wrong with this world. It's hard to say if he knew the original Nirvash, and even if he didn't, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that he thinks the Type I is --the-- Nirvash. Raigerzero said: If the secret IFO is confirmed to be the Nirvash type TheEnd, and that turns out to also be mechanical (which it should be since I would think a Coralian frame would be big news), maybe one "rule" of this world is that all Coralian (aside human ones) are converted to mechanical forms, as possibly evidenced by the Nirvash-AO and the Secrets. There's no evidence that theEND seen in the previous episode is completely mechanical, and is very likely that it possesses the original Coralian archetype. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't believe it was destroyed in the first series, but rather "reclaimed" by the scub upon sensing its imminent doom (remember the other reclamations of those with desperation disease, and those whom they were close to, near the end of the first series). Raigerzero said: Furthermore, I probably missed this fact in episode 5, but it seems that Scub Coral are historical in the Earth, which leads me to two questions. First, are the Scub Coral native to Earth or was an alternate historical pathway created after the events of Eureka Seven's last episode? Second, would people and countries be in constant fear of fusion explosions since there was no way to stop the Secrets from reaching the Scub Coral, historically? I feel that the answers to these two questions should have led to a drastically different political world map. If this is indeed a different dimension that the Coralians from the first series are migrating to (a theory that I still subscribe to), then it's fairly safe to assume that nailing the "time" of arrival is either a fairly difficult endeavor, or that there's some sort of deliberation here, most likely as to not stir too much panic on this Earth; making it more of a gradual transition (it may also be to avoid another "Limit of Questions" scenario). It does seem, however, that the Scub Coral is either failing to communicate with the inhabitants of its new world, or that something is impeding or preventing that from happening. "Secrets"? International conspiracies? Amnesia? All of the above? It seems to early to say. One thing that is for certain, however, you'd think the task would be much easier, or at least doable, with having had Eureka around to tell humanity exactly what was going on here. It's likely that she told Generation Bleu, or at least people in close association with, and that would explain the certain monopoly they seem to possess on IFO/FP technology. But that leads, again, to the question - what's with the apparent communication barrier, here? Modified by Dangerr, 06-01-12, 8:46 PM |

God, I'm finding it hard to care about any of the characters at this point even if this is a character development episode... Fleur x Ao seems nice, but the other characters are just pretty meh. Ao's supposed female companion, Naru? Not much development at all... E7 had something that made me really care about the characters that this series did not. They made a lot more jokes, and had more good times than these characters (the prank pulled on Renton, the funny sex jokes teased at Renton, etc.). It's just mecha fight after mecha fight every episode, I swear. Now I'm not saying mecha fights are bad, but they're only good if you actually care about the characters and are curious to see the outcome. |

This show continues to suck. They keep using the same formula for every other episode and it's getting annoying. Another thing is what happened to Fleur's personality. It changed a lot and it felt too forced. She's way to friendly and loving towards AO now simply because he hates his father?? Which leads me to the question that everyone has been asking...where the f did the whole AO suddenly hating his father come from? It would have been far more believable if it was brought up at the start and built upon in each episode. It just got tossed at us out of nowhere. This show is being rushed big time. With only 24 episodes I can see how this is gonna end...bad. As for the other Nirvash, didn't they hint at the president having both the Mark I and Nirvash? in an earlier episode? |

Okay, am I missing something here? Last week we finally get an episode that manages to grab my attention and this week, not one single freaking mention to Ao's childhood friend? I find this show to be very shaky atm and I'm very disappointed to see it ranked 400 in MAL just because it has Eureka Seven in its name. |

the style of E7 Ao is very different to the previews series. in the old one there was a high focus on the renton x eureka romance, but in Ao there's like no romance at all. it also reminds me very much of neon genesis evangelion: 1 boy and 2 girls fighting in mechas against suddenly appearing abstract aliens for an organization. |

Meh. I am so pissed that this is gonna be 24 episodes. I dont doubt this show will be good and all but 24 episodes is just short. We will end up having something that would be way better if it went for 40-50 eps.. Would anyone like to see E7 Ost songs played in AO ? I wish they do that, play Niji/Storywriter/Nirvash theme if nothing. I'd scream like a school girl... |

One thing I forgot to mention, in the preview for ep 9 notice how Ao is sitting in what appears to the the same fp that appeared in his dream that turned into the nirvash. It looks like he is somehow reminiscing something significant. I may be wrong but perhaps there really is more to that three seater fp than what we previously thought was just part of the dream like scenario in ep 7. |

A lot of peeps appear to be pretty perplexed why the President double-backed on his decision, or why Fleur has changed her tone, or who elena is. Moreover, people still seem pretty pissed off at the last episode. It has me kinda confused why, to be honest. I think the first observation to point out, is that this is NOT E7, it is a sequel. But it is clear BONES want to take it in a different direction (stress different points, make different plots - no one likes repetition of an already good story). Secondly, a major theme in this story is TRUTH (made blatantly clear by the "apparent" antagonist's name). That is, every character (even Ao) appears hide more than they're letting on: - Ao has still not told of the intricate details of Eureka and his father (Renton presumably) = juicy stuff. - The President made juxtaposed decisions so as to cloud his true motives. - Elena appears innocent, yet the appearance of "Mirror" seems to show she too holds ulterior motives - Even "caretaker" characters like Ivica and Rebecka seems to be holding back I think this is actually a really interesting way to tease out the story. In a way, its similar to E7, where Renton had to go from naivety to understanding, thus maturing. I just think the method in which it's teased out is different. Renton's epiphany was much more sudden - like glass shattering. Ao's "naivety" appears to be much more of a hoarding of key bits of info, so as to build the bigger jigsaw puzzle. Each episode, we get one more essential and juicy piece. Finally (sorrrrrry for long rant), the other themes (like political tension and paternal mistrust) add a real grittiness to the world. I also like the fact that the romance is NOT set in stone (key distinguishing part from E7). I think its good that we don't know who Ao will get, if anyone at all. It means we potentially invest more in Fleur, because she could form a romantic attachment. Like E7, the romance has tension, just a different type. Anyway - sooooo sorry for the long reply. Much like the bloggers on randomc.net (awesome review site), i just feel like I have to defend what to me, feels like a really well-written anime. I have a distinct feeling, that because this was tagged as an "E7 sequel," people came in expecting E7 Season 2, not E7 2.0. As a result, people may be putting unfair expectations on this anime from the start. Maybe not. All I ask is try to see this with fresh eyes. PS. If you read this far, you deserve a prize. Or cake. |

Mattafixx: good post, but answer me these two questions: 1) Has it occured to you that maybe you're overanalyzing? 2) With that kind of overanalysis, don't you think that at least 95% of all anime ever released could be considered a "really well-written anime"? I'm well convinced that I could write a post like yours about most anime I've watched in the 5-7 average score range that most people do NOT consider good, let alone "well-written", and it'd make it seem really good as well. Disclaimer: I didn't like E7 that much. I could go into a huge rant on how we're supposed to like it because of its character development, but I only ever saw 5 characters truly develop in what I consider a well-written way, but it was consistent. I'd give it a 4 out of 5, no problem, because I have to admit that it was structurally well-made, even if it didn't entertain me as much I expected. AO is just all over the place to me. I can't care about any character that's not from the previous series, last week I started to care about Ao's childhood friend and this week they decided to stick fillers in and lose momentum. I don't consider it well-written, I consider it a decent anime (good animation, some interesting characters although less so than E7 imo, they have a good lore to work with) but not decent enough to merit a passionate defense like yours. Hurts me to know how many underrated anime could benefit if people did overanalyze because they have actual depth, instead of trying to do so to shallow, overhyped anime. |

Haha, I guess over-analysis comes with the territory (law student - so I tend to do it to everything). I guess on a more holistic level, I like it primarily because you can't actually tell who is the "good guy" and the "bad guy." Too many anime lately make it plainly clear from the start who is bad and good, like a lot of old Western movies, where the baddie wore a black hat, and the gooodie wore a white hat. I find that, despite the clarity of knowing who is who, it also means the "baddies" pretty much regurgitate the same old cliches and 'bad guy monologue' which I consider 'crap writing.' Despite the same old protagonist yelling (eg. "HIYAAAAAAAA"), each of the characters in E7:AO are quirky, and at times throw out unexpected responses and/or actions (Elena/Mirror and the President are good examples of this). Except maybe the stereotypical swagger of 'Truth' and his boasting, I still find even Truth intriguing, as I can't help but feel that his actions will be partially justified for some reason in future eps. And so not knowing who is bad and/or good, makes the series unpredictable. It like good horror for example (another analogy). The best horror films/games are the ones where they don't show you the actual monster/evil, but rather with careful use of lighting, scripting, character dialogue, make your imagination run wild and freak you out, because you don't know where the evil is coming from or what form it is in. This, and my love of dystopian fiction makes me enjoy this series (dystopian fiction includes: Orwell's "1984", Rob Harris' "Fatherland", "Brand New World" and even "Hunger Games" to an extent). Despite this not being a strictly "dystopian" landscape, its characters are similar, in that, they are hidden and often characterised by the internal struggles by the protagonist (ie. "infighting of emotions/imperatives"). Ill stop - Im overanalysing :P As a side-note: I actually didn't rate the original E7 that highly (I was easy on it - as paying out E7 tends to create much anime-rage). I found it VERY slow in some places, and certain aspects of the ending, could be predicted by the end of the first few episodes (eg. Eureka & Renton, some confrontation with Dewy Novak, etc). Yes, the journey was unpredictable in places, but if you know how it ends, then part of the magic is lost. You may say that the specific ending wasn't predictable, but that was merely because it wasn't that clear WTF happened at the end (up to anyone how you interpret it really). Moreover, some of the characters I found way too stereotypical, muttering the same old phrases a lot of anime tend to tumble into (eg. "Ah hah, YOU FOOL, you have stepped right into my trap" [5mins later] "Blast, you foiled my trap at the last second"). It's also a criticism of the "Truth" episode in AO, because Truth reminded me of the typical anime "bad guy" stereotype. But something makes me feel like he is not the bad guy. Maybe because his motives are so distinct from the rest of the characters (who don't understand what he's doing). I dunno. Moreover, Renton particularly annoyed me, because his character development felt clunky. I'll stop on E7 now, purely because (i) im probably pissing off fans of E7 on an E7:AO forum (LOL) - who are entitled to their opinion, and (ii) im getting to over-analytical again. To draw back: I like it because I can't predict the next episode. More than that, characters are un-predictable, and cant be easily classified as your typical protagonist and nemesis. Third, its a very beautiful anime + has a great soundtrack. Finally, the characters feel more believable - probably because they are a bit more proactive in their actions. They aren't mopey all the type, and when they are, they are usually blowing something up whilst being mopey XD. There. Sorry again. I really ranted. Eeep. @Mattafixx (Not going to quote that!) I love dystopian fiction as well. 1984 is one of my favorite books of all time, also, it's Brave New World, not Brand, haha. I don't agree that AO has a dystopian feel at all, though. Coming from someone who loved Kino no Tabi, Kaiji (dystopian subworld?), GitS and so on, I can't at all relate these to AO. I agree with everything you said about E7, though, and I do have to agree that at least for now, AO doesn't have a stereotypical "haha! I am your villain and I want to destroy your world!" character (let's hope Truth doesn't turn into this crap). However, there's many an anime with this characteristic. Again, I'm not saying AO is a bad anime, it's really not. It's decent. It doesn't deserve to be ranked 400 after 8 (imo) mostly below-average episodes, and this week's episode was a real mood killer, though. |

I liked this episode, but I think this character development cycle needed to be completed much earlier. I like that relationships are starting to build (Ao and Fleur) and I'm glad that Ao didn't have a little emo crybaby fit about not being able to go save Naru... though he had a few smaller emo crybaby fits to make up for it later on. Though there was very little direct plot development this episode I think it was a much needed lull. Good time spent getting to know the characters; I was actually worried that Fleur was going to get herself killed at the end, which I wouldn't have cared about at the beginning of the episode. There was a little probing into the romance genre here for the first time in this series as well, which I like. It felt much more like the original E7 to me than any of the prior episodes so far. Many of the characters were given a little more depth too; Fleur, Ao, Elena, the Chief, the President, etc. One thing that bugged me though, was that Ao 'hating' his father (Renton?) seemed very forced. I don't remember it ever being mentioned or even hinted at before (though there was a distinct lack of Renton's presence, with the focus being on Eureka) and it just felt like it was made up on the spot to give him and Fleur a reason to get closer. Definitely hope Ao ends up with Fleur, or at least someone who is not Naru, since I don't like her character at all right now. That laughing scene at the very end was well done; it made me happy :P |

Is it just me or has the animation quality taken a nosedive since ep 7? The first few episodes just seemed higher quality. Better episode regardless, enjoyed Fleur character development even if it was predictable. |
