I was just wondering... How many Blu-ray discs does an official Anime Blu-Ray release have? I mean, whenever they release one, they're all inside a Blu-Ray box right? And from what I know, each disc have 25GB space...which would be enough(and I think that's too much too) for the whole season of an anime... so is it really just 1 disc? and aside from limited edition figurines or whatever that is, what does the box contains? |

Each disk typically has 50gb space. And how much on each disk depends on the location. The west hoards as many episodes onto a disk as possible to conserve space, often sacrificing quality in return. The licensing companies save money in this respect. The east, on the other hand, generally only rips around 2 episodes on each blu ray disk; however, I've seen them put 4 on a disk, though it's rare. Small booklets are usually added to the Japanese limited first edition volumes. I have a limited edition vol. 1 of ef a tale of melodies, and honestly, it's just a small character leaflet. Nothing much. Digitally, there'll usually be commentaries and ova's on the original, so you'll miss out on that with the western release. Anime costs a lot in Japan, though. Be prepared for that. Edit: Oh, I also have the limited edition Angel Beats! set from Japan. With that, I got a bunch of character CD's and some sheet music for the piano pieces played throughout the soundtrack. For a 12 episode series there are usually 6 volumes, each with 2 episodes. 25GB for single layer, 50GB for dual layer. We shall see 200GB BDs soon. Modified by Gogetters, 05-30-12, 10:37 PM |

Ohh I see... So there is only 2 episodes on each disc which is a single layer... About that volume thingy...1 box per volume? or there are 6 volumes in each box? btw, 25GB is just for 2 episodes??? I thought each episode which is 24minutes is around 800MB-1.2GB ? Edit: @lucjan's edit The character CDs could be bought seperately right? so when you bought that set, did it cost you more that the original price of the regular one? No, DVD and BD videos aren't compressed like the video files you can download, so they are much bigger. That's also why the quality is generally better straight from the disc, rather than a DVD/BD rip. ![]() |

I've never bought an anime BD that came in volumes before so I don't know how many disks come with it, but I assume it's 1 disk per volume. A volume is released each month with it's own box. The videos files are much bigger until they are encoded and compressed by the subgroups. |

Madoka Magica has 4 episodes per volume, as does K-ON (North American releases). I think the Japan releases have less episodes per volume though. ![]() |
