Urobuchi Gen. Before Madoka, magical girls were about fluff and love - even the 'deconstructed' ones that came before it.

This happened a year ago. He hasn't had that much influence on the genre, as magical girls are STILL about fluff and love, except for Madoka.

Agreed. You can't shape or influence a genre made for little kids using an anime that's completely inappropriate for children.

Satoshi kon. I cant say that he had that much influence in anime movies like miyazaki but he definitely shaped the psychological genre. R.I.P
also akira toriyama had a big influence in anime with his dragon ball manga specially the shounen genre.
Mmmm also i think NGE had an influence in anime since most people say that the tsundre archtype originated from asuka of NGE.
What about the guy who made akira?

She's certainly not the "most important", but I'd add Rumiko Takahashi to the list. It could be argued that harem anime is just taking seriously what she intended as a joke, and some modern stock-character types were pretty clearly influenced by her characters.

Most have already been mentioned in this thread. Names like Go Nagai, Ishinomori Shoutarou, Miyazaki Hayao, etc.

But I don't think this one has: Eiichiro Oda. He's made the best selling manga in history (well, so far). That's really something.

first three companies that came to my mind, there are more but I'm too lazy
they give money (or rather some drones in their companies) so they are quite important and influential

But to be honest. I like Hiro Mashima as he created some of the best shounen/romance anime.

So, what we have learned today is that Chiaki konaka has had more influence on the industry than Urobochi Gen.

But seriously, nobody's said Hideaki Anno yet? Or Yoshiyuki Tomino? Between Gundam and Evangelion, they need some sort of mention.

Satoshi Tajiri - Who else would have come up with a show where little kids catch monster and stick them into a tiny balls without any room for movement etc. And to top it off, letting said monsters beat the crap out of each other.

Anyway, this is one of the men who was responsible making anime mainstream in the late 1990's (mostly among kids, obviously)

Ima have to go with Hayao Miyazaki.

He's probably the only guy I can name on the top of my head that is known to many people regardless if they watch anime or not, regardless if they're Japanese or not, regardless if they're a new anime fan or not. Not that this is about popularity, though. But he had his fair share of "impact" (I generally dislike this word since it's so damn arbitrary) on the industry.

Saying the same thing twice does not reinforce anything. To reinforce what you said the first time you should perhaps say why you believe these people to be important.

You're more likely to get response if you actually elaborate on it than essentially double posting. And with proper grammar, as well.

And even then it's unlikely because this topic is one of those "+1 here's my list/person/anime" posts that doesn't encourage discussion.

I'm thinking you meant gekiga, which is actually credited to the person I mentioned [Yoshihiro Tatsumi]. Kazuo Koike continued in this style, both through his works [I doubt many people would agree with your evaluation of his works, BTW] and his Gekiga Sonjuku educational program. My line of reasoning was the same, though. Seinen owes a debt to those guys, starting with Osamu Tezuka himself.
