I've only seen Gundam 00 (which I know has nothing to do with this), and according MAL there are multiple prequel Gundams of which I have no intention of watching. Just wondering if I'll be able to understand the plot and if I'll still get basically the full experience. |

You dont have to watch those to understand Unicorn. Although you need to know whats the 1 Year War is, what Char Aznable is. That sums it up. Wikipedia is enough, if you read it carefully enough. Short: 1 Year War = Zeon, the Space Colonies, fight for freedom. They loose after one Year cuz of the Federation MS Gundam. Char Aznable was the legendary Pilot of Zeon, Main Rival of Amuro Ray, the Federation Hero and Pilot of the Gundam. Char Aznables MS are ALMOST every time they are red, making them three times faster then the normal MS. (Red Zaku = 3 Times Faster than a Green Zaku for example.) You cant stop a troll, you can only stop feeding him. People like to rage and hate about everything, its one of the fundamental rules of the internet. And finally, correct spellin doesnt exist either anywhere on the internet. STOP FIGHTING! - Kira Yamato/Kio Asuno |

I'd say, stay away from it if you don't have any intention of watching the prequels. There is too much background story to understand before unicorn. Besides, why would you want to watch Unicorn when you don't even want to see the prequels? I already facepalm at the fact that Unicorn has more MAL members than Char's Counterattack. Just don't. So, ehm yeah. One of the greatest Mecha Animes in all time should be for the fans of the 0079 Anime only? Srsly, the most can be sum it in a few sentences, Zeta, ZZ and not even the orignial Gundam have too much to say. Unicorn: Whiny Boy gets to pilot Gundam, Marida is hot, the enemys MS arent just Cannonfodder and one Masterpiece of animations. Irigninal. What to say? It was 1979, grafics arent that great, and so wasnt the story telling. You cant stop a troll, you can only stop feeding him. Thanks for your input guys. I think I'll steer clear of it. morshuwarrior said: Besides, why would you want to watch Unicorn when you don't even want to see the prequels? Well, because it looked good in the trailer, has great reviews and a much better rating than most other Gundams. Also, like angelslayerx said, the graphics and (most of) the storytelling is much better these days. I also prefer English dubbed anime and wouldn't want to watch a heap of subbed episodes (I know some are dubbed) just to get some back story. But having said that I don't want to watch it and not like it just because I don't know the general story. So I won't. |

Just to point out, the English dub for Unicorn isn't half bad. |

No no no, watching this series is well worth it. You don't know how much you're missing out just because people told you not to watch it. To be honest, I've never seen the first original three, and I don't have the time nowadays to be watching it either. I've only played some Gundam games that gave me bits and bits of the story, but that was it. The key points at angelslayerx posted is basically all you need to know. I recommend you watch this series. If you still feel like watching some sort of prequel, I highly suggest Char's Counterattack. It's the movie that takes place 3 years before Unicorn takes place in e UC timeline. |

You should have background info, ideally from past UC Gundam. You could also play something like DWG campaigns and read up some character and mobile suit bios from there. I'm not sure why anyone would want to watch this if they don't have interest in UC Gundam to begin with. |

Are you kidding me? I've seen the first episode of Unicorn back when it was new, and I thought it was amazing. Haven't seen another episode since then, but I HAVE since been watching Zeta Gundam. Reading around on what's happening in Unicorn currently, you're missing a lot of the backstory: that's what I noticed after having watched only HALF of Zeta Gundam--imagine how much more backstory I'm missing from ZZ Gundam and Char's Counter-Attack. |

Never watched the old gundams.. Only seen Gundam Seed, Seed Destiny, 00 Season 1, 00 Season 2, and i understood 95% of the stuff in some degree.. and it was fairly enough to watch this. You can also spot Zaku machines, so it's not "too" far from Gundam seed and Gundam seed destiny :P Definitely watch this.. You will still be able to enjoy this easily as a "standalone complex".. |
