I randomly click on people's profiles and I notice them having over 500 items and I can't understand where you get the time to do this. Hell, some profiles have over a 1000 and I was in shock at the sheer magnitude. The most anime I can watch in a day is like 13 episodes and then I need a break.

When did you start this? How long does it take it you marathon? Tips perhaps to get through more anime?

If you can watch 13 episodes a day then you are already beyond us. I am in the 500 category but i very very rarely manage to watch 13 episodes in one day. In 2 years tops you will have seen more anime than me with that pace.
Maybe you should also be checking joining dates, age, how many ova's-movies watched and stuff.

by the sounds of it (if you keep it up) you will easily have over a thousand by the time you are 30 if that. age does play a big part haaha and some people don't like you knowing their age which is understandable

Most of the people you click on have probably watched anime most of their lives. In fact, most, if not all, are probably quite older than you are. Im only 21(almost 22) and have racked quite a bit(I think) of animes/ovas/specials/movies on my list for only 4 years of streaming anime. I recently just started downloading my anime.

I used to watch 13 ep animes a day but not now. I find myself distracted by the MAL forum or forums, and chats quite often now. When I start my Gintama marathon this summer, I hope to be watching 15 ep's each day.

Also this seems to be the wrong forum.

I guess we all have different systems. Some work, some don't, some have discipline, some marathon for periods like holidays...

Also, I don't think there is a tip to go through more anime. The more you watch, it tends to numb you, you know? Just watch stuff you enjoy. Half of the time, I'm marathoning without realizing it.

I doubt many people marathon episodes on a daily basis.

Also there's a bunch of entries that are for movies, specials, and stuff that takes up like little time compared to say naruto, bleach, or one piece for instance.

To put it in perspective, if someone watched anime for over a decade, then the total time of around 150-180~ish days for 500-800 entries is like what, 0.04% of total time used? Hardly do you need to watch 13 episodes a day to achieve something like this.

Well 13 episodes a day is potentially equal to one series a day. No doubt 1 episode OVA, ONA and movies contribute considerably to length of lists. As far as tips can go watch what you enjoy.

Watching 13 episodes a day is more than you need to catch up to those people. That's about 1 series every 2 days (since most are about 26 episodes long) and if you throw in OVAs/movies/any series that's only 12-13 eps long you'll have no trouble hitting 500 if you keep up that pace for a year or two.

Edit: To contribute to this some my MALgraph statistics say that 31% of the anime I've seen are only 1 episode in length, while 25% are 14-26 episodes in length and 23% are 7-13 episodes in length. Even I wouldn't realize how many single episode shows I've seen as a result of specials/OVAs/movies but it's pretty easy to pile them up without noticing.

I've been watching anime (at different levels; ie I can go months without watching anything, I can watch a whole series in a day) for about 11 years, I think the earliest I remember watching one was when I was about 5-6~.

Although I've watched a lot lot more in the past say 4-5 years because before than my family didn't have our own computer, so it was pretty much down to borrowing DVDs from friends or watching something if it was on TV, which wasn't great because a lot of those shows are the ones in my list that are really low rated :|

Kinda lucky I didn't drop it back then cause of that.

Actually most series are 12 episodes long. With that pace he can go over a 1000 in 3 years.

I guess it depends on who you are but honestly I'd advise against watching anime simply for the sake of getting your list up really high. Like most of the people have said just watch what you like at your own pace.

Watching around 6 hours of anime a day~ (for 3 years) I doubt anyone can possibly do that.

I've been a fan of anime for over 10 years, and I still haven't finished 100 series...

I don't really worry about it though. I don't watch it for the sake of watching anime, I just watch the ones that really interest me.

It comes with OVAs and Movies. They are about an hour or so, and if you can watch 13 episodes about 22 mins each that equates to a bit more than four and a half hours. Maybe you can even get in 5 hours a day. That schedule going on for a year, you'd surpass almost everyone you think has a lot.

Most users who have that many shows, usually have been tracking it for over a year.

Well when you take into consideration the indisputable fact that the entirety of the anime community starting watching anime on the same date on a night of the full moon, it is pretty shocking that people are outpacing a guy watching thirteen episodes a day.

Indeed; it required years of skilled workers not watching 13 anime episodes a day :P

I often wonder about this too. I've noticed on some anime lists that if you take away OVA's and films on some anime lists that are >100, you're sometimes left with a more believable number. I've seen many manga lists where people have marathoned a load of one-shots, clearly trying to speedily bulk up their numbers. The general feeling I get is that some people either have too much time on their hands, or they spend far too much time locked away in their rooms, or they are exceptionally good at multitasking.

Not everyone on this site is under 21. Some people have been watching anime since before you were born. That's alot of years for anime watching...

Not sure why people would care about "bulking up" their lists...I guess it's the same type of people who care about achievements?
