Unless the US got some other edition with them later on or something.FFX, no question. I played it before I was a fan of the series, and now I'm hooked. The story is great, and the battles are challenging. PLAY IT! :D ![]() Firar ein mann seg sjølv ned i reip, og får bane, då er han sjølv banemannen sin. |

Final Fantasy XII shouldn't have had all the hate that it gotten. It's leagues better than FFX IMO. I thought the story was much more expansive and not very linear like in FFX. ![]() |

The characters and license board let it down a lot (for me). I'd rank them as: X > XII > X-2 not that I found X-2 *that* bad: the battle system and the fact that it was a sequel made it enjoyable for me, that and there was a lot to do. |

Expansive gameplay, yes. It definitively is far less linear then Final fantasy X, but deep story and interesting cast of characters, no not really. I believe Final fantasy X has that one beat as far as plot progression and characterization goes. |

XII's core story was great, but the game just didn't seem to care enough about it, and sent you rummaging through random dungeons in search of some magical super weapon crap instead of focusing on the political conflict that was really the core of it. ![]() Firar ein mann seg sjølv ned i reip, og får bane, då er han sjølv banemannen sin. |

I personally didn't get really attached to any of them, like X or X-2. And I know this isn't PS2 and is a bit of topic, but the DS spinoff of XII(revenant wings) was HORRIBLE. Battle system wasn't bad, but the story was, in my opinion, crap, you still didn't care about the characters and the Judge was OP as fuck. Unless you over-leveled your characters by about...like...7 or 10, then it either took a miracle, or you'd have to chip away at her health in a battle that'd last forever. The characters were really poorly done, I thought. I liked Basche, Balthier, Ashe, Cid (what minor part he had) and Bunny, but the majority of them were just... eh. |

Storywise, I reaaalllyyy want to give it to FFXII but the story just fell flat halfway through when they decided to pull the typical jrpg cliches of superweapons and ego-maniacal god wannabes. So instead, I will give that to FFX's little melodrama which was actually pretty decent. Tidus is also much better than Van. He at least had a central role in the story. FFX-2 is not worth mentioning since it just trampled on everything FFX built and more. Gameplay-wise, FFXII offered something a little different in single player rpgs so I'll give them props for that. FFX had your typical run-of-the-mill turn based system. While it was a well polished system, it didn't offer anything overly new or exciting. As far as the license board/sphere grids go, FFXII International should've been what FFXII was originally. Good thing is, FFXII International is fan translated and playable on emulators. As for the sphere grid, it was a straight forward and somewhat linear system. Sure, it offered a "distinct class" feeling in the beginning, but once you completed the initial sphere grid and branched into the other paths, it all ends up being the same. But then there's also FFX-2. I'd probably have to put over FFX-2 over the other two games for the combat system. It's fast paced and pretty polished. The dress spheres were a nice touch as it offered the classic class change system even in mid battle. With all the different abilities available to each class, it almost felt like a throwback to the older games. I've always felt like FFXIII was trying to emulate FFX-2's battle system with FFX's sphere grid and ended up bastardizing both and screwing it up. Modified by Wasabi, 05-27-12, 1:10 PM |

I believe Final fantasy X has that one beat as far as plot progression and characterization goes. I do agree, but the main problems I had with FFX were mostly just how ridiculous some of the designs were for the characters, from the way they dressed and the weapons they used (Wakka using a blitzball as weapon was so absurd to watch). In terms of characterization, Tidus may have been the most developed protagonist in all of the FF games, but he was definitely the most annoying out of the rest. ![]() |

Final Fantasy X. Baman said: Yea, X2 was damn fun gameplay wise, so as long as you don't expect a remotely good story, then it shouldn't hurt. I agree. |
