This isn't about criticizing annoying noises like that glasses girl in Myself;Yourself, although she is very annoying and doesn't suit the character at all.

This is about voice actors that sometimes don't fit the character s/he is supposed to be voicing. Even in real life, we sometimes have a feeling when we look at someone or hear someone we expect a different personality, appearance, or voice. Yet oddly enough it is something unexpected.

Obviously, most of us can probably get used to the voice over time, but what were some voice overs that made you tilt your head or facepalm in disappointment?

Amazing actors/actresses usually have no problem with this but there is the odd occasion that make you feel slightly out of place why that character have his/her voice.

So, what are the top contenders for the most mismatched voices?

I'll start with Medaka Box. I'm pretty sure quite a bit of us felt kind of disappointed Medaka was kind of soft. I mean, she did have some deep voice but it feels forced.

And before the usual suspects start to debate about the criteria of this thread, it's meant to be opinions-based mostly. I'm sure it's not a rare occurrence for us to feel that a character's voice is out of place to their character behaviour/appearance/personality.

In D. Gray Man, (The Main Protagonist)'s voice in English (dub) fit the character perfectly, but in English (sub) the voice didn't fit the character very well even if I got used to it after a while.

Agreed, there are many characters that get the female treatment for whatever reasons even though the guy should have a deep enough voice already. I didn't get used to it either. Especially because Allen isn't really a wuss either like Yukiteru or something.

Bah my memory isn't doing its job here. There are tons of examples of guys that shouldn't have a female voice actor doing the job. :[

not sure about the sub, but the dub of Mad Dog from yugioh gx

I was sort of expecting a big macho voice to go with that body. His voice ended up annoying me and I was rooting for Zane to beat this guy up already...

Mitsuki from Full Moon wo Sagashite. Her singing voice seems a bit too deep for a 16 year old. The singing is great; it just doesn't match up with the character well.

Oh I remember that...typical 4kids, macho man voiced by a very high pitched voice actor talking about mommies (literally). His subbed voice was actually quite good and appropriate, though.

This as well. Although I guess you could argue the voice of a child matches with the mind of a child.

Completely disagree. Probably you know already all the reasons considering your comment.

I didn't like most of the voices in the Japanese dub of DBZ but Goku was the worst. He didn't sound powerful at all when he needed to. The voice was somewhat fitting wen Goku was supposed to be his normal kind self but during any kind of fight it was completely inappropriate sounding.

Her voice is just too distinct to actually be different, I guess. But yeah, when I was watching Witchblade, I cannot take her character seriously with that voice. Some people love her voice for some reason. You'd expect an immature mom to have at least a what, less softer voice? I can't even describe her voice.

I always had the conception that Kanda's dub voice was the one which was mismatched. Travis Willingham is a decent actor, and Kanda is a badass, but his girly-ish looks don't say 'Roy Mustang voice".

I haven't watched Witchblade, so I can't say much about it. I don't really see how a person might not take her voice seriously though.

If they are all like me, they love her voice because it's cute matching cute characters, and it's kinda soothing for some.

On the subject of immature mums, there were girls who gave birth at 8, I think.
So much of what people might think is a mismatch could be just due to their own circumstances, e.g. country, culture, the general vocal range of their population, etc. Frankly, I could expect any kind of voice from an immature mum.

Sai (English dubbed Voice actor). High pitch and turned him into a girl.

but to me the worst voice actor award goes to Monica Rial. She makes all the characters so annoying. High Pitch or just an annoying accent in characters such as school Rumble (Mexican Girl). Thats not even how their accent is.

While I really like Miyuki Sawashiro as Celty (Durarara!!) or Ayane (KnT), here my ears were bleeding...
Nia Teppelin
It's not AS BAD as one above, but still annoying. Even though I kinda liked her, I couldn't stay here voice.

Obviously, this entire thread is about one's difference in circumstances.

And yeah, her voice is mostly for cute characters. And the mom was supposed to be sexy. :( A sexy mom with a cute voice was mismatch at its finest for me. They're not exactly opposites, but I can't imagine her in that body. :s

Every 4kids dub has a terribly matched voice
