the last few weeks i have seen more topics resurected (hell i just found a 4 year old topic coming back to haunt us) isn't there a way to autolock/delete those topics?

or make it more obvious for people to see the date or something?

I agree. I also find it bothersome that threads are locked time and time again just because there was a similar topic made, say, five months ago. New members wouldn't know and would not be able to find those topics that easily.

No.Those threads serve the purpose of discussing a certain topic which is why when newer threads discussing similar/same topics are made, the newer threads are locked and a link/links to older threads are provided.

Furthermore, although there are no new replies to a thread it doesn't mean no one is reading the responses. There are lurkers after all.

It's say this type of thing damages a community actually, because some threads are generally pretty old and have over 1k posts, most of the time people just don't read the posts at all.

I know that I personally avoid those posts completely and I know others who do as well.

I actually see literally 0 point whatsoever in keep those threads and locking new ones, it makes no sense to me.

reviving an older popular topic is fine with me but something that was abandoned long ago and was left to sink to the bottem...

like this one then the people reading the recomendation topic will just look at the last post's date (or not at all) and keep on posting (that's why i posted it so big, people WILL read that)

Then what?

I mean, what will it do?
Please state it clearly so that we can understand your position. :)

Well I guess it will reduce spam. i.e. people posting about "necroing" threads.
It also makes sense to lock threads because people aren't going to dig through pages of topics to avoid making a duplicate thread (since the search function has been disabled for a year now)

But then again theres nothing really wrong about reviving 4 year old threads as long as you stay on topic.

Right, reduce spam by locking old threads thereby causing people to make new threads about the same topic.

What it would do is actually get people to discuss the topic again, if you look at most of those huge threads in the Anime Forum, that has a huge ton of posts and check the last pages, nobody actually reads other posts or discusses anything in those threads.

Nothing actually gets talked about in those threads because most people dont read what people post in them because they are so big, and if nothing gets discussed in a post, what exactly is the point of what post? Isn't that the exact opposite of what a forum is supposed to be about?

You have far more chance of actually having a conversation with someone in small threads where people actually read the other posts, but nobody does that in a thread with over 1k posts and has been around for 2-3 years.

That's just how I see it.
