Looking for something that will produce waterworks.
I've noticed; however, that only certain types of scenes get to me. It's hard to describe, but I'll provide examples:

The Bad
The emotional scenes of the first season of Clannad

Anohana

Welcome to the HNK

Ef memories and melodies - Chihiro, Renji, and Mizuki struck me as annoying. Yuuko's story almost got me though

The Good
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

Clannad AS 18

Madoka 10

For those who haven't seen the above series, dramatic character deaths, or characters that I fail relate to and end up disliking are turn offs. Sad back stories about family abuse or tragedy usually don't work out either. I would think I have really low levels of empathy, and for characters that I don't gain a liking to, I won't feel emotional for.

From what I've seen, the ones that do work are emotionally stable or "cool" type characters having an emotional breakdown, tragic displays of love(doesn't have to be romantic love), or characters redeeming themselves. As abstract as that may sound, that's are what I'm after. What do you guys recommend?

Ano Natsu De Matteru though it's on your ptw already. It's pretty shallow tbh but will get into you once you started watching it (???) There's no harm in trying though. :)

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
Two children, siblings, caught by a great earthquake in tokyo when they are faraway from home. Drama comes in waves.

Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku
Idealistic boy is caught up in stuff way over his head... and gets bitch slapped by reality.

I'm taking into account your grades for AnoHana and 5 tears per second, as I didn't like them also.

I would also recommend Kaiji, but Kaiji didn't make me cry, only made me root for him.

If you didn't cry to the Fuuko arc last episode, I can not help you.

But maybe Ga-Rei: Zero

Definitely seconding Cowboy bebop and LoGH. Those have to be some of the best I've seen for this, especially LoGH. Both have tragic stuff happening to cool characters and and some tragic love too, both romantic and non romantic, though while CB only gets rolling towards the end, LoGH has some even from the start (relatively speaking) and then just keeps on balling, some of which should be pretty surprising too.

Eh, Didn't seem like that slap was hard enough from how he kept on with his blind idealism.
Seconding Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 though.

Fate/Zero is a constant load of waterworks for me. Throughout the second season I've cried during 3/5 episodes.

If you are looking for tearjerkers, I think you should try

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (it is mecha though).

All your good reasons I sobbed like a baby during.

I actually did cry during the Fuko arc (Episode 9) because I just found it kind of heartwarming that her dream came true regardless of who she was. Kotomi's also was kind of heartrending when she broke down, I felt her pain too and the ending of that ep put me close to tears. I didn't cry during the last episode of her arc though.

EF only cried when it was appropriate, but I didn't find it too touching imo.

The other bad reasons, I don't plan on watching either because the artwork looks like crap and just by you describing them, I'd rather watch Gantz or Chaos Head again =.=;
Please ignore what you don't like instead of attempting to disrupt it

For all of those listed above, I didn't find them particularly sad, except maybe Brotherhood, and a "Wow, I guess that sucks," for that particular Madoka scene.

No Grave of Fireflies yet? Watch it. I don't cry for sh*t, but man, I'm still haunted by it =/.

A group of friend just struggling together to make it. The anime has some heartbreaking moments. All of the main guys are likable and make you want to stand up and root for them.

This is basically man tears the anime.

Seconding Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 and Grave of the Fireflies.

Saikano is pretty damn sad/depressing as well.

Hokuto no Ken

This anime is where manly tears originated. It may start off slow, but the whole series is worth it.

For the manly tears part, there are quite a few scenes that will make you shed tears. It really does play on your emotions since some of the character's fates are so tragic.
