Uhuu, Gintama, please stay in the top 5.

And, not surprised about Nisemonogatari still at top.

Wow, Kannagi didn't even get the 2000 copies... That's really bad.
Chances for a second season are even lower now.

1. It's originally sold near 10K average.
2. For BD-box release of already "old" series 2k is really not bad result

Another slow week. And next would be too probably

Overall for Vol 1. The 4/30-5/06 sales are listed in the first post. You can see for example that Nise sold 3,011+958 or 3,969 this week, and since it sold 57,512 last week the total is 61,481.

Yeah, this. I was hoping for a more, so this isn't a good result. I was expecting closer to 3k. But it's not like 2k for a BD box is totally disastrous or whatever. BD boxes are pure gravy for a show that already hit 10k. And my hopes for a Kannagi TV sequel died a long time ago anyway. Still bought the BD box though.

Popular idol group (Momoiro Clover Z). Most people buying it likely have no idea what Mouretsu is. But anything that brings more money back to the Mouretsu production committee is good. That's why I imported the OP/ED and ED2 CDs.

Did you usually not include B-side OPs? If you do, it's missing the excellent:

3, 21,461 21,461 Sakamichi no Apollon "Sakamichi no Melody"

And poor Choucho. At least Hyouka's looking to be not as much of a bomb as Nichijou, so you'd think the OP would do great as well...

It had to be sarcasm, based on the fact that this volume sold a whole 1 copy more than the previous. Proof that KMB is on the way up!! (Kidding, of course.)

In terms of what, budget and sales expectations and such? The first season got a sequel on only 4,824 average, so I'm assuming it wasn't expected to be a 10k seller or anything like that.

Gotta say I'm disappointed with Kannagi sales... I guess the Otaku still harbor a grudge against her being impure? I dunno, but it sure doesn't give me hope for a 2nd season.

Anzu's track is still selling however

http://andriasang.com/con0wp/complete_gacha_ban_effect/

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/05/07/japanese-social-games-risk-seeing-crackdown/

The game itself might be discontinued since it's a compu-gacha and a blatant one at that.

thank you for always answering my questions friend! :)

Hmm...so even in the first season it didn't sell that well huh? So I presume like you said they didn't expect great sales this time either....hmmm...

but if it doesn't sell well, why did they give it a second reason? rather...IF it was a high level project? And what IS the minimum for a low level anime anyway?

As much as I like Idolmaster, thats probably a good thing. I completely hate that kind of selling tactic in general because its very sleazy.

I agree however the game itself should not be abandoned completely and I wouldn't mind Cinderella Girls ported to a handheld with extra features (SE ported FM 2089 to the DS no probs).

They could and should port it to the 3DS or Vita, 3DS would be a better idea since it would be cheaper and faster to port a game like this to the 3DS.

It's all about whether or not a profit is made. Not to oversimplify it but:

If a show costs ¥150,000,000 to produce 13 episodes (a rough average estimate) then you need to sell a given amount to break even and pay the bills.
But if another show costs ¥500,000,000 because it's higher budget than normal, with more marketing and better animation and top tier staff/cast and so forth, it is going to need to sell much more.

Complicating this is that DVD and BD sales are by no means the only source of revenue, or even the most important for some (many) shows. Say Show A sells only 3000/vol on DVD/BD but also moves thousands of high cost PVC figures, gets international licensing revenue, boosts sales of the original novels/manga/games 250%, and pushes 20k units of OP/ED. Show A is going to see much better return on investment for its production committee than Show B that averaged 6000/vol but doesn't make inroads with other revenue streams.

And of course you need to consider the cost of the discs. You don't need to sell as many ¥9240 discs as ¥6300 discs to make the same amount of money. For example, Mononoke averaged 12,879 and made ¥305.3 million. Whereas Sengoku Basara 2 averaged virtually the same (12,952) and made ¥551.5 million, nearly double. (Prices measured at MSRP, obviously the cut going back to the production committee is less, about 46% by one estimate after retailer cut and paying people who need to be paid).

It's basically impossible to cite a good minimum... but it is true that, just statistically speaking, late night TV anime rarely get sequels if average disc sales are below ~3000 per volume, and even then it's not really "expected" until closer to 6-7k.

13,905 isn't bad at all, unless the OP was done by some mainstream act that was expected to sell a lot more.

Wow Fate/Zero 2nd season ED is more popular than OP!!! I like both songs, so it's fine, though.

That's not necessarily the case. Sora wa Takaku sold more because it was released after TTB, hence TTB's sales diminished with time while it the ED was released last week so its sales hasn't decreased that much yet.

Yeah, someone forgot to look at the cumulative totals.

12, *9,918 **9,918 Fate/Zero 2nd Season "Sora wa Takaku Kaze wa Utau"
21, *5,254 *37,066 Fate/Zero 2nd Season "to the beginning"

Or rather, better to compare Week 1 with Week 1:
[2012-04-30]12, *9,918 **9,918 Fate/Zero 2nd Season "Sora wa Takaku Kaze wa Utau"
[2012-04-16] 11, 23,763 *23,763 Fate/Zero 2nd Season "to the beginning"

OP is selling far more than the ED. Although neither is looking to be anywhere near Oath Sign.

I LiSA really that big of an idol over there in Japan?

She's not really that big. But in my opinion, it was a far better song than anything that the 2nd season has had. So I'm not surprised to see it outsell S2s songs.

Oath Sign was my favorite OP/ED of 2011.

Angel Beats! music sold phenomenally well in all forms, LiSA or otherwise, so that certainly got her well known at least in anisong circles. I think that Oath Sign being the OP to the first cour/season is a bit of an advantage too, as sales attrition over time is normal.

Actually I think it's more that LiSA has both Fate/Zero and Angel Beats fans buying her single while Kalafina have only Fate/Zero fans. 'to the beginning' is Kalafina's best-selling single to the date, barely surpassed their 'Magia' single. Kalafina has more niche fanbase than LiSA.
