Actually a lot less than Stalker predicted for Nise, but Stalker always overestimates major hits (its BD count for Madoka was exaggerated by over 80%), though this less so than in the past.

Still, 57k, easily the best seller of the year and one of the best selling shows ever. Hopefully it can average 60k, but it'll need to be very consistent from here on out and have big second and third weeks.

Eh, no drop for Inu x Boku SS? That's one thing I wasn't expecting. The series turns out to be a real success after all, and not just a good performance on the discounted volume only to dwindle later on.

EVOL did about as predicted, though I would have loved to see Stalker slightly underestimating it for it to break the 10k mark right away. For what it's worth, it's the first show I'm importing in a while, and I'm afraid it'll be joined by at least one spring series soon enough...

I'm so happy to see Inu Boku is second best to Nise for Winter Sales...

Can't believe it beat DxD and Boku Tomodachi....shows the power when it caters to both girls AND boys.

At least, I THINK it appeals to guys? I'm no guy so I dunno.

I think its eligible for a S2?

How is Volume 3 for Inu X Boku doing?

And ouch Brave 10. D: if only it had been executed better...

Symphogear still going strong...

So happyto see tamayura...shows there are still fuwa fuwa fans in the world.

Inu x Boku SS definitely appeals to guys too, yes. It's one of the most successful late night anime I've seen at hooking both so equally. You can see that in the even DVD/BD spread - shows that appeal only to guys virtually never sell half their copies on DVD.

Easily.

How is Volume 3 for Inu X Boku doing?

It's doing fine. With Vol. 2 barely dropping at all I don't expect Vol. 3 to drop much either.

And ouch Brave 10. D: if only it had been executed better...

It completely nosedived for Vol. 2. I guess Vol. 1 came with an event ticket or something.

So sales of NMG are a bit lower than excepted but not so bad. Good to see that Haganai, Working-2, InuBoku, Horizon and High Scghool DxD didn't suffer large drop of sales.

P.S.: Need to watch NMG at last

Umm why does everyone keep saying Nise is a failure? Was it supposed to sell 80k or something? I think BKM sold something like that. Also, I noticed that Stalker predicted 10k copies more than what's here.

It would be on dtshyk's list if we did. The full list isn't out until Thursday (sometimes not posted on livedoor until Friday though) but even then I'm not sure it'll rank. It'll be maybe 800 max though.

I'm just mostly hoping the threshold in the full list is low enough for Mouretsu v2 to chart, since it was just restocked at Amazon a couple days ago. It'll probably be too high though, because I don't think v1 will add another 1500 or whatever it's gonna need to rank.

I would hope/assume they're joking.

It did sell a lot less than Stalker predicted (~16k less total) but like I said above, Stalker always overcounts super super high sellers so I expected it to be less (though I still thought 55k BDs at least). Nise is overcounted less than other major Vol 1s have been though.

For example, Stalker predicted 96,597 BDs for Madoka, which was an overestimate of a whopping 82.5%. Steins;Gate BD was overcounted 57.9% and AnoHana BD was overcounted 41.7%. Obviously Stalker has used these findings to refine the formula it uses to calculate high sellers since then, because Nise was "only" overcounted about 30%. but that's not so rare for Vol. 1s, which are hard to estimate, especially when a series ranks highly for a long time. But at the very least you'll get a good ballpark estimate.

I will note that Stalker is going to be largely useless for the rest of the Nise volumes because Aniplex and Amazon seem to be having a dispute, and none of the upcoming Nise (or Persona, or BD boxsets) volumes can be ordered at Amazon and it's been like that for over a month now. I gave up and ordered Nise and the Kannagi BD box from HMV instead.

Well, I'm not surprised to see GC selling well since the amount of contempt in regard to this series doesn't reflect on BD sells.

As to the matter whether GC was a good show or not I kindly disagree with you ;)

Good to see it's selling so poorly (considering its ridiculous budget). Maybe people will finally learn that investing more than 1% into decent script is a good idea.

I wonder how iDOLM@STER sales look combined with G4U bundles (are they still released for vol 7?) Over 20k?

Such a shame Rinne isn't doing well, maybe S2 will change it. Even Sympho outsells it...

Haganai, DxD and InuxBoku doing well. Can't possibly ask for more. :]
Well, despite its atrocity of a last episode I'm glad that GC is selling well, too.

Poor Brave 10, though. Doesn't look like there's any hope left for that show.

Eh, what's that supposed to mean? InuxBoku IS shounen, and it IS intended for guys, and it DOES it's job well, and it's actually more popular among guys than girls. infact, i don't see any reason for it to be popular among girls, if it's the bishounen you're talking about then that's the result of the author being female, and that says alot.

Look at the sales data though. It's selling more on DVD than BD, and it's a well documented trend that shows with a heavy female customer base tilt towards DVD (check out Shin TeniPri's sales for a recent more extreme example) while shows with a heavy male customer base tilt much harder towards BD.

There are very few exceptions in the last two years or so, particularly on the latter point. If a show selling as much as Inu x Boku were being bought only or overwhelmingly by male consumers, it would be more like 70-90% BD sales, instead of only 49%. Especially with how much BD has come to dominate anime sales.

It's just how things are. Otaku buy BDs, fujoshi buy DVDs. There are exceptions of course but it's general rule.
Just look at sales.

there were loads of anime with bishounens that season, why on the seventh hell would females go to the one with the most ecchi and perverted undertones in it
Because IxB SS was the best one? Because it had Miketsukami fanservice? Because girls really like this 'butler' stuff?
Also, IxB is nothing compared to Nise when it comes to fanservice, so I'm not really sure what are you talking about.

All the shows I care about (Nise, Haganai, InuBoku, DxD, even Moretsu Pirates) are selling well. That makes me a happy man.

You can't possibly be serious, What the hell does the format have to do with anything for crying out loud? general rule my nuts, i don't see any rule or any restrictions saying male otaku shouldn't be buying DVDs, and what do you mean "look at the sales"? i'm clearly looking at them and i have no clue what you're talking about. also like i said before, don't give me the "bishounen" or "butler" crap, is that some kind of joke or something? and last time i checked, there weren't any butlers in inu x boku, even if there were, if you're expecting the female otakus to buy the DVD's because of that then you must be out of your mind. also there's always the possiblity that it sold slightly better on DVD because it's cheaper? has that thought ever crossed your mind?

and i didn't say anything about Nise, why would you compare to inuxboku? They're in completely different leagues, i actually felt offended that you went ahead and compared them, Nise is a masterpiece sir, please don't compare those two.

Its called sales trends... any economic analyst will tell you that they are very valuable to follow.

Generally, men are more technologically inclined so they will have PS3s and other BD players. Women generally aren't as technically inclined, so they might still have their DVD players and don't play video game as much. Due to this, they focus more on buying DVDs, while men buy BDs.

We've seen over and over again that stuff aimed at men sell BDs, while stuff aimed at women sell DVDs. This is a sales trend that is pretty much in concrete, since I do not know any series off the top of my head in recent years that went against this. So if something like Inu x Boku sold just as many DVDs as BDs, it shows it has a significant female audience.

You're mixing together two very different things, so I'll try to distinguish better:

#1 is what trends are uncovered when we look at the sales of shows aimed at various audiences? This can be measured. And the measurements reveal that male consumer prefer BDs very heavily (60-100% bias, often), while female consumers either favor DVD (UtaPri, Shi TeniPri) or go about half and half (Natsume Yuujinchou s3-4), or in some cases shows aimed at them just don't receive BD releases at all (Hakuouki, Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi).

#2 is why do the trends uncovered in analyzing #1 exist? This one is harder to quantify, and you're not separating the two, so you reject #1 because there isn't an obvious answer to #2. This is evident in how you're phrasing it in terms of "rules" and "permissions". Nobody said anything of the sort however, so that's something of a strawman argument.

Of course males can buy DVDs (and some do) and females can buy BDs (and some do), but an overwhelming majority of males buy BDs instead of DVDs when given a choice. It's not a matter of being "allowed", it's just what actually happens, for any number of reasons (pickier about having the best video quality, peer pressure to collect the most expensive version [yes that's a thing], BD LE has all the best extras, male might be more likely to own a fancy home theater setup, etc).

and what do you mean "look at the sales"? i'm clearly looking at them and i have no clue what you're talking about.

Right, because you're not looking at them with #1 in mind. If you don't accept or don't know about #1, surely sales numbers seem not to imply anything about demographics. But once you understand #1, the trends become clear.

Keep in mind this trend is changing. It used to be that shows aimed at females didn't receive BD releases at all, long after shows aimed at males made the format jump. Then a few made the jump, but DVD still totally dominated. That's leveling out more and more over time. Probably within two years or so, shows aimed at females will be as predominantly BD-heavy as shows aimed at males.

Here's another example: anime fans as a whole have adopted BD way way faster than the general Japanese public. This is a verifiable fact. But nobody ever claimed non-otaku "aren't allowed" to buy DVDs.

Different audiences have different uptake rates on any given technology.

No "rules" or "allowances". Just consumer behavior in the real world, that's all.

Look here sir, the format sales don't mean a thing, untill someone gives me an actual solid and beliavable proof, i won't buy this crap. especially since inuxboku is more male-oriented than female oriented.

You're clearly set in your conclusion, despite all evidence, so I see there's no point in trying to convince you further. Believe what you want. Reality will continue to be what it is whether you adhere to it or not.

What evidence? all you did was tell me that Otakus tend to buy BD's and Female otakus tend to buy DVD's, how is that evidence?

But where do you think the data in these threads comes from? Oricon reports sales data every week, and some people (like me) like to record and analyze it. Take any show popular with a particular demographic from the last few years and I could tell you what percentage of sales came from BD and which from DVD. While there are always occasional outliers, nobody questions the general trends anymore.

But again, this BD gender gap is closing, and I predict it will all but cease to exist in maybe another 2 years or so, at current rates. It's all about technology uptake.

And just checking here, but did you mention before that the BD sales are 49% or something like that?

Yes, or 48.8% so far, to be exact. The normal percentage for male-dominated franchises is closer to 70% BD, and sometimes well in excess of 90%.

Jmal, don't even bother since he seems to have it set in his mind that this is a fully male dominated fanbase for Inu x Boku. Nevermind that it has implied yaoi and totally bishounen characters with fetishes that appeal to the female fanbase.

this basically proves that monogatari series will sell like crazy in japan,
and thus we are going to see most of the rest of the series animated.
bakemonogatari sold like crazy and is number 1 since 2000 in bd+dvd sales, and nisemonogatari sells 50k for bd and 7k for dvd = 57k? thats freaking impressive
