Technically they are separate stories so it doesn't really matter. Watching fate stay night first gives you a glimpse about some of the stuff you will be expecting in zero, and it has hints/relevant knowledge that can make the zero series more enjoyable.

Well at least that's how it is for me any ways. Zero is a fantastic series that can be enjoyed alone without watching stay night in all the honesty.

Watch Fate/Zero and just forget about Fate/Stay Night. . . Pretend it doesn't even exist. . .

What were we talking about?

It's easy to compliment someone that you'll never envy, but even easier to try and tear down someone who's better than you.

They kinda spoil each other so
If we're talking anime then just watch FZ ONLY & forget about FSN since FSN anime is an abomination.

IMHO FSN was not that bad...as long as you forget there is a VN version of the same story with everything described better. Animation is top notch, story is passable and I had a good time watching it. Fair enough for me.

Now comes zero. Let's just say I couldn't be more surprised. Last year steins;gate got me really good, and now it's this.

well considering its 2006 the animation is not THAT bad
but really...they chose the boringest route and bastardized it with snippets of the other 2 routes and created all that shirou hate

carnival phantasm animation prob seemed better cuz everyone from tsukihime had male faces...

They should do an anime for heaven's feel route just saying.

Yea animation was decent back in the days. Still good by today's standard imo.

Personally, I'd like to see what Ufotable could do with the Fate route and especially UBW. Though, if I could get only one adaptation I'd choose Heaven's Feel. Because it's probably my favorite and has the same general atmosphere as Zero. Still, all three routes tie into Zero real well. I think it would be pretty necessary to adapt all of them.

It's probably a pipe dream, though. But, I still I can't help but think "what if?" more and more by the episode.

Don't watch Stay Night first, it's so bad that discourage people to watch the masterpiece that Zero is

Because Fate/Zero is so much different? They're both just tournament anime.
I bet that's why there's so much "no action this sux !" retards on F/Z discussions.

Am I the only one that liked Fate/Stay Night more than Fate/Zero? Then again, I'm not watching the 2nd season of Fate/Zero because I hated the first season of Fate/Zero that much. Well, let me take that back...I liked Fate/Zero at first...but seriously, the first season went NOWHERE. NOTHING was accomplished in the first season of Fate/Zero. When I finished the first season, I thought, sheesh, it felt like Season 1 was just one great big 12 episode teaser. I would've seriously used those 12 episodes for something else if I could've just started watching the 2nd Season and not be too far out of the loop.

Give me a break, you sound so incredibly biased due to the fact that you probably watched FSN in one sitting whereas FZ is not finished yet. The first servant deaths even happen at about the same time in both shows.

Watch Fate/Zero first. Played the F/SN VN, got spoiled about who survived, and so there's a lot less suspense.

BTW, unlike a lot of people here, I recommend neither the F/SN anime nor VN. The premise is just a whole lot more immature, with your high school students and your harem and your insufferable protagonist. The writing's average at best, and the setting's uninspired. F/Z's got adults who know what they're doing, multi-dimensional characters with the exception of one pair, and just an overall more suspenseful story.

'Course, a lot of people will disagree with me, but that's just my opinion on F/SN in comparison to F/Z.

I kind of agree and kind of disagree. Especially, the F/SN VN is worth reading just for Heaven's Feel, which is almost literally the spiritual sucessor to Fate/Zero's dark athmosphere (and Kirei actually gets to be a right bastard in it, just like in Zero).

Don't watch both. Read the novels (VN for FSN, LN for F/Z) first before watching. Then get ready to be disappointed with the anime adaptations.

Fate stay night/zero is very much like Star wars. Fate stay night is like star wars epsiode 4-6 and fate zero is episode 1-3. like star wars, you can watch either one independently

Except most fans seem to think that Fate/Zero IS a good adaptation when that doesn't seem to be the case for Fate/stay. In fact, you are the first person I've seen to say the Zero adaptation is bad.

well its true that they skipped alot of the dialogues
like the feast of the kings...kirei and Gil ones too...
but you have to keep in mind that as a novel transitions into an anime it cannot be exactly the same
like alot of the internal monologues and narration will be impossible to be incorporated
they are prob gonna need a narrator or something which will make it seem REALLY weird

I think its the nature of the novel itself being a narrative kind (where there is someone describing the story) is the problem and to turn it to anime they have to remove some things like "How the narrator described the car, the motorcycle, the weapons and the other things worth mentioning but never mentioned".

Maybe I got better imagination which makes the show damper than I could expect. But some things can be made better if the production used better imagination rather than playing safe by trying to be original as possible (with exception of episode 10). Though since its anime so its should have more action but I find some of the scenes a bit lacking (perhaps Kiritsugu vs Keyneth).

I dunno maybe I'm the skeptic kind of fan.

Most of Servant's abilities revealed. Tonnes of foreshadowing

The information war is complete.
Time for action.

seriously, this is a 26ep show, don't expect anything major to happen within the first half when it's all about setting things up.
This is not your generic shonen fighting tournament.
