OP - nice.

Secret behind the danger of the island, the boy's first time riding the robot with the green bracelet and "Eureka". He became the criminal and everyone's searching for him. The weak girl cares about him, and he took her as the only person to show his robot.

Wonderful OP, this along with Dusk Maiden of Amnesia's are my favorites so far this Spring Season.

Anyways, an interesting episode with mecha action. The comedy, action, and drama were mixed in nicely including the mini-naval warfare. This scene sure bought back some nostalgia:

Taken from Wikipedia:

The IFOs or Intellligent Flying Objects are the successors to the LFOs from Eureka Seven.

They make their debut .

Fantastic aerial combat mixed in with the kick-ass music (although not as good as Jormungand's imo). Two other characters are also introduced and may play prominent roles in the future.

Here's another flashback of Eureka (most likely):

A heartwarming ending to this great episode, better delivered than last time. So glad I picked up this series now.

wait. . . unless the subs are wrong it said that the monsters/aliens where showing up as early as 1940s!? Also episode states they have records of those times and much of the infrastructure resembles that of the 20th and 21st century. That's it, I'm going to treat this series as either an alternative version.

Damn, the OST is already seeming just as good as the first series and that was one of the best things about it. Dark Nirvash is also cool as fuck, can't wait to see more.

I like how Ao is, well, one of those protagonists that don't whine. Instead of mumbling "I can't do it, I can't do it" he says "I can do it, I am doing it". Makes him all the more likable. Oh, and, his mother is Eureka, we all know that. But I'd really like to see some hints of Renton in Ao's flashbacks

Oh, and I just noticed that this is going to be 24 episodes? Shame, I was hoping it would go up to 50. ):

Another good episode; but still doesn't feel like it will be as good as its predecessor but time will tell; another bitter flashback with Eureka which only adds to the bitter thought that after their nice ending they had only hardships; well i know this is still way early since anything could happen but if they went down the bitter route of disappearance due to death then i hope they both died instead of one living without the other.

Hmmm.. So - we have a few new things to go on regarding the timeline of Eureka Seven. I'll go through them in the order they were divulged in the episode. PLEASE NOTE: ALL sections regarding the possibility of Time Travel assume that

1) Political Standpoints:
Assuming this as a direct sequel: It seems that while they have re-adopted some names and political standpoints, not everything is like it was in the original earth. It seems that the Iwato/Okinawan political faction is attempting to split from the Japanese - or at least that's what I managed to get from it. This would be

Assuming this as a sequel involving time travel: It could be possible if there is time travel involved - if Eureka and Renton came back to before the Nirvash was painted/outfitted/stolen - in a different part of the world. However, this would explain the political standpoints more, considering Japanese political standpoints were never touched on if I remember correctly.
POINT: BOTH

2) G-Monsters in the Past?:
Assuming this as a direct sequel: They say that they had to rely on survivor's accounts from the 1940's due to lack of photos and technology from the time. If it was a direct sequel - and they simply began counting the years again - they would still have cameras and their technology that they developed in the original. This is much harder to prove that it is direct in any way.

Assuming this as a sequel involving time travel: If Eureka and Renton did go back in the past, that would put these events occurring around the time they first time they dug up and began outfitting and using the Nirvash, and technology wasn't as advanced. This assumption also matches up with the fact that the Nirvash isn't painted yet.
POINT: TIME-TRAVEL

3) What about G-Monsters?:
Assuming this as a direct sequel: G-Monsters do not seem to be the anti-body Coralians from the past of the series, but rather a new enemy. The fact that they want to destroy the Scub Coral as it appears should be enough to back this up, even if it causes a huge explosion to wipe out the surrounding area. They could be a new type of enemy that uses the Scub Coral as an explosive to destroy large areas of land. This would make more sense as a new event - happening after the original - than it would as a rewind/redo scenario involving time-travel.

Assuming this as a sequel involving time travel: This wouldn't quite work. G-Monsters were never referenced ANYWHERE in the original anime, not in the past, not in the present, and not at the end. They were never mentioned. So why would they show up if Eureka and Renton went back to the same time the Nirvash was discovered? There were no G-Monsters back then.
POINT: DIRECT SEQUEL

CONTINUED FROM ABOVE...
4) Appearance of the Nirvash:
Assuming this as a direct sequel: It would make sense that the doctor had seen the Nirvash Spec 03 before if this is a direct sequel. It would also make sense for him to recognize the painted spec 03 compared to the original spec 03. It would also make sense that the Nirvash is in it's Spec 03 version, rather than any other, considering that it was its last form before enlightenment. What we don't know, however, is why it is not painted anymore - or why it is back for that matter.

Assuming this as a sequel involving time travel: It does not make sense that the doctor would know about the Spec 03 Nirvash in either of its forms if this takes place before the beginning of Eureka 7. Neither form of the Spec 03 had existed at that time, and nobody outside of the people discovering it should have known of its existence.
POINT: DIRECT SEQUEL

ENDING SCORE: DIRECT SEQUEL IS MORE LIKELY AT THIS POINT. (3 points to 2)

Let me know if there is anything else I have missed that may relate to the timeline of the two Eureka Seven anime - OTHER THAN WHAT WAS TOUCHED ON IN THE OTHER TWO THREADS - Thank you!

Why is this a sequel to Eureka Seven? This is casting a pall on my good memories of a good show especially because for some reason Eureka goes from super-happy-end in ES to something on the far side of depressing in this show. This seems to take place before the coral took over the planet yet it's a sequel? whatev.

It has so little in common with its predecessor that they might as well have just done an original series.

And if they had called it something else and made it an original series, you'd be complaining it's a rip-off. Don't lie.

It's strange:

1. they're using battleships with normal missile interception MG's (that white thing that shot at the car)
2. They don't have beam weapons as they did in the original series. Nor guided missiles, nor seeking lasers.
3. Nirvash is in Spec 3 mode, as mentioned before, but had absolutely no weaponry.
4. It is possible that the scab coral is "anchoring" the island, thus why destroying it would destroy the island.
5. There is a chance that everyone is living in another dimension of earth, perhaps deep within the coral's thoughts.
6. Whereas the trapar concentration was enough for entire battlefleets to glide and huge ships such as the Gekkogo to sail on, now it is only usable for cars. Why did they ditch the flying ones? Nirvash does not seem to be affected by any change in concentration of trapar.
7. No skyfish.
8. No reffing or ref-boards. Renton would be sad.

If it's not an AU, they'll need a miracle to explain all of this XD

It's quite possible it will be explained as we go - Bones is ten times better at story telling than most other producers - especially this team that they have working on this.

There are many ways they could explain it - if you think about it. My above argument is that it doesn't have to be ONE way or the OTHER - the end result could be a mix of two or more possibilities. We may have not eve thought about the most plausible thing yet.

I'm sure Bones will surprise us in a good way, they wouldn't let their biggest (one of them anyway) anime disappoint so easily. I just think people are so attached to the original that they don't want to even give the sequel a chance to live up to it.

Nice. Glad Ao didn't inherit the whiny bitch gene from his father. Solid episode and it seems like it's somewhat mirroring what happens in the first couple episodes of the original in terms of timing.

Direct Sequel doesn't mean nothing interesting could have happened between the two. At the moment, the only thing making it a direct sequel is the fact that the main characters in the original gave birth to the main character in AO. That's as direct as you can get.

Outside of that, there are too many variables.

implying things not shown yet means they don't exist...

Also, perhaps the trapar concentrations are far lower now with less of the Scub Coral around, making only smaller vehicles usable?

That would make sense, and lends itself to the direct sequel theory. It seems that the next episode will be the explanation episode, so I think we'll get quite a few of our questions answered then.

I don't understand the people of Okinawa. What's with their bias against foreigners? The only rationale I can think of is that they hate not being independent. The first episode revealed that the island is both claimed by the United Okinawan Archipelago and China-Japan. If that's the case, how can they judge an inhabitant a native of the island via their hair color? That's like saying someone isn't Japanese despite being born/raised in Japan because one has a long nose. Certainly Ao can be considered an inhabitant; after all, he did live on the island for most of his life. So much for the UNITED Okinawan Archipelago and its people...

Actually, everyone in Okinawa is racially Japanese. Renton and Eureka were not racially Japanese, we never explicitly get told what ethnic group Renton belongs to, but neither of them were Asian. Thus their (hypothetical) son would also not be Asian. Ao was discriminated against as a foreigner even before his hair color changed.

That was a darn good episode. Action, some images from the past that point to this being a sequel, a bit of political intrigue and there was a event he possibility of a romantic triangle forming. I think I'm gonna enjoy this one.

Again: The date is given explicitly at the start of the series as 2025 AD, meaning specifically our current calendar.

I am not sure why you would assume this is a lie. This is not presented as a mystery timeline, it was explained from the first second as being set in our near future.

Shocked I didnt even notice the hair until seeing a comparison of a gif from ep 1 to ep 2. Hope it gets domestic blu-ray release.

Good point. However, it still doesn't completely explain the inhabitants' hostility towards someone who has lived on the island for his entire life. In all respects with the exception of his heritage, Ao is an Okinawan. Ao's grandfather explicitly remarks that Ao is a child of the island. During the car ride scene, Naru's father makes it clear others' perspectives: the island's troubles began with the introduction of Ao's mother, Eureka. I hope the series tackles this discrimination and the question of how much blame one can associate another with because of his or her heritage.

Calling it now - AO is an alternate universe, Scub Bursts are large chunks of Scub Coral "bursting" through into the universe that AO is set in, from the end of Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven. This would explain several discrepancies such as dates, lack of heart on the moon, and the vastly different levels of technology between KSE7 and AO.

That would explain a lot, but that just adds another theory to what could be possible.

I'm sure it will be a mix of the theories, but we'll have to see as we go.
