well, happy you, nobody you know IRL know you online. that's not my case. and for some people I know, I wouldn't want them to see the H in my collection.

hiding it ruin the interest of MAL, not listing it is worse.

but, I do understand it might be difficult to implement. I believe if this thread get enough people in it, we might be able to change Xinil's mind about doing the hard work.

beside, I don't know, is Xinil the one and only programmer for the whole site ?

I know a few sites to list manga, videogames or DVD - and even, at long last, a CD listing site.
and each and every of them have some kind of forum where you can ask for new features.

each feature is work to do, and I understand that there's no string attached, no fees demanded, so I'm just stating that, as some other member, I'd like to see this implemented. maybe when there's a sufficient number of members, things will change. maybe not, but we won't know unless we try :D

I'd totally agree with this. I saw the Facebook app for MyAnimeList, but won't add it until i am able to hide the hentai on my list.
I kinda don't want my friends, mom, sister, and other family to know about the hentai.
The other anime, i don't care.

My suggestion is just add an option in the Profile > My List Settings
and have a checkbox, Dropbox, or something to allow any anime rating that's checked will hide from public view, but only viewable by you. Obviously Rx would be for this reason.

Another simpler idea is just make 2 boxes that say:

[ ] Check Box to Hide Hentai Anime on Anime List
[ ] Check Box to Hide Hentai Manga on Manga List

this might a better idea and more simple.

I think that would be a much easier idea and (although i'm not a good computer programmer yet)
I don't think it will take WAY too much code or be too hard, but that's just what I think.

Well, that's my idea for this. I hope this idea goes through soon.
I'd kinda want to keep track of the Hentai i've seen to keep a record what i HAVE seen but don't want to delete it from the list, and no i don't want to make a 2nd account for those who suggest that.
It would be too much of a hassle from switching back and forth between accounts and it might be common to add the wrong anime to the wrong account list.

My suggestion - get Excel and list there. Put a password on the file. MAL has an export feature . Download it and list all your hentais. It'd take awhile if you've been watching a lot but once you're done; it's basically adding a title one at a time.

Excel for anything you don't want seen.

Using Excel for your anime list, even if it's just for what you want to hide, defeats the purpose of MAL.

Y'know what? I went about and deleted the hentai off my list... and not cared. So, quite frankly... there really isn't a big deal with this thread's suggestion.

How so?

It's a problem of the users involved. I don't give a s**t who sees my list or their opinion of it or of me, but obviously many users do. They have given suggestions such as:
1. Creating another account - not a good idea according to kei-clone
2. Coding MAL anew for 'hidden' features - Xinil seems cool to the idea
a. some users want hidden feature not just for hentai but for yaoi/yuri
3. Don't bother listing them at all - which defeats the purpose of having a complete personal list of anime.

Until Xinil actually agrees to do the coding necessary for the 'hidden' feature, they can use Excel on their exported list. If, or when they reach the age where they don't care a hoot about people's opinion, they can always import the list to MAL, can't they? That's not possible (importing the list)?

If you can manage your hentai in Excel you can manage everything else in Excel, using both at the same time is counterproductive, so imo Excel is not an option.

It's just for the people who are touchy about the subject of hentai on their list but are quite into having a 'complete' list. They leave their hentai on Excel with all the other animes; and here on MAL, they have their anime list w/o the hentai/yuri/yaoi. This MAL list they can show to girl/boyfriends, family members and such (which is what a lot of users want to do) - the hentai remains in Excel.

Anyway, it's just a suggestion until the feature they want gets implemented or they stop caring so much about people's opinion.

I've never used that import feature too but it's great that it's there. Thanks for that link, btw. I have the export link (backups) not the import.

If you watch it, then you should be a man and not let what other people think bother you. Either that, or just don't add it to your list. This seems like a rather insignificant change, compared to many of the more important aspects that need improving.

Why this suggestion has spanned for more pages than everything else on the entire first page of the subforum, I'll never know.

Odd that nobody said this alrdy but here it goes:

Flag all your anime you don't want to show to the outside world as dropped.
in your profile setting (Tab My list settings) you can hide that tab to the outside world.

voilá, one sub-part that noone can see besides yourself.

It'd be nice if there was just as extra category called "invisible". Rather than "watching", "completed", "dropped", etc. that would remain invisible but could still add to your days, and stats.

I have a boyfriend and friends in real life that use this site, and I'd be a bit shocked to see really nasty hentai all over their page. :/ Never would look at them the same way again. A lot of us know that people watch hentai, but sometimes ignorance is just pure bliss.

The thing with putting it under dropped and hiding it on your list, is that your friend will find it if they really want to. You might as well put a big sign up on your desk hiding your porno stash saying "do not open." They'll want to look at it even more. Whenever people hide their lists, I tend to look at them anyways... out of curiosity. :/

Doesn't matter where you hide it. They will always find the perverted stuff. At least every woman is born with this gene. Unless it's password protected, everyone's capable of looking at friend's porn list/porn and passing judgement. The only way to have it undiscovered is to password protect it, or delete all of it. Most men will try to hide it, only to fail.

I have a few on my list and i don't find it embarassing to the least.
People i don't want to know that saw my list are not going to click on every link till they finally get to Boku no pico and find out what it is. :P

So if it's under an 'Invisible' category, as you suggested, how are 'genes' supposed to find it?

I think its kinda silly there is nothing to be ashamed about if you ask me.

They can't. Passwords are great things. ^^ The only way to see it would be to hack, and most people don't do that. Genes only go so far when things are password protected.

Yes, but if you link it to Facebook to show your friends and family what you have watched, it might be embarrassing, maybe not as much with friends, but family members of what you have watched.

It might get kinda awkward if you have family get together or you see them a lot and they might make fun of you about it.
I say "might" because every family is different but i doubt those who care would like to be put in that position.

Some people don't give a shit and don't care, but there are those people who want to keep hentai they've seen hidden to themselves.

Other people care about their list and what the public see more then you do.

Just delete any hentai from the list if that's such a problem.

Oh wait. Gotta maximize the number of series watched, for the LOLZ. Y'can watch 10 series or 100 series. Nobody cares about that too.
