Starting with episode 2 I'll open a thread for this, because it's kinda redundant if I keep doing it with both Dunky and Sandileina via profile comments. I'll post your thoughts about episode 2 in the starting post too. Dunky: Sandileina: My thoughts on episode 2: Check out our new Simul Watch CLUB and join if you're interested in watching stuff together with other people online to discuss about it in a more private and detailed matter than the episode discussion subforums can provide. Also the Custom Tags Club, if you like to customize your tags and don't want to wait until the MAL feature is fixed. If Death Note is "chess", LotGH is "3D Chess." - lisnoire Code Geass would be Rock-Paper-Scissors in this analogy. Guilty Crown? xthedestroyer said: Go Fish! |

Interesting observations on Jigen Sandileina! You actually might be on to something there. Because out of all of the Lupin I have ever watched, I don't recall Jigen ever being sexually attracted to a woman or being in a relationship. But I know for a fact that Goemon has had an episode or movie where he had feelings for a woman, and it stuck me as odd that Jigen never had an episode like this. |

Lupin has always waked the line between exaggeration and sillyness (most of the time leaning toward the silly side, but not in a bad way), but the new series tries to be more serious, at least I get that feeling. And so I'd prefer if they stuck to that, but it seems that's impossible with the Lupin franchise ^^. I'm just confused as to how to watch this series, as a comedy with good characters and some action (like many of the old episodes/movies I know) or as a drama/action series with some comedy elements. So far it's walking the line very well, and even though I would prefer to see it fall on one side, it would also be interesting if the series manages to confuse me with this until the end *gg*. I've always seen it as an action/adventure series first, and a comedy series second, never the other way around. I mean, I have definitely never watched Lupin for its comedy, I've always watched it for its fun and adventurous stories. I think you're just going into it with the wrong mindset, think of Lupin as having more of a playful attitude than a comedic attitude. Or rather, it's not meant to be laughed at, it's meant to be smiled at instead, if you know what I mean? |

Good Point Dunky, you just made me realize what one of my "problems" is: It's easy to smile at the older Lupin stuff, as it's old and nostalgic etc... But to see more or less the same, old 80's humour in a very recent series, while everything else about this anime is more "modern", is a bit weird. Not to misunderstand, I actually enjoy oldschool humour like in Lupin, Ranma or something like Slam Dunk (please don't force me to elaborate on my definition of oldschool humour, I have none, only intuition ^^), it's just weird and unusual to see it out of it's usual habitat plus in a series that is rather dark and gritty in its other aspects. One of my favourites this season. I'm not overly familiar with the Lupin:III series. I've only seen 2 movies and a handful of stray episodes from the 70's series. However these characters are very iconic and easy to relate to IMO. This series is just brilliant I can feel Watanabe's influence in this anime only though hes only in charge of the sound directing apparantly. Also its animated by the guy that did Redline... wow that is just pure awesome. I think the animation can be a little stale at times, but the characters designs are just so detailed. My fav ep so far has to be ep 2 with Jigen. DAT BEARD! Modified by battosai-01, 04-28-12, 12:52 AM |
