hmm this is somewhat of a hard topic to explain :p sex and sexual themes can be a great addition to any dark and brutal anime.....if used appropriately. unlike in gantz where all of the "sexual moments" are just out of place, weird, and just plain hard to watch. like when kei looks at kishimotos breast at one point and gets an awkward erection and says "hey want a back rub!?" that was just painful to watch. on the other hand there are animes out there that do it quite well like neon genesis the end of evangelion where shinja starts jerking off on asuka's unconscious body....that was real f#$%ed up lol. if i had to recommend a dark and brutal anime with sexual themes in it i would have to suggest koi kaze.......ok its not really all that dark :p its actually a suspenseful romance. the only dark about it is the controversy of the two lovers being brother and sister. |

School Days... I think. If it wasn't for the sex then there would be almost no plot. :O |

*adds koi kaze to list dont judge me! XD i think when done well sexual themes can defo enhance a dark and brutal anime, esp fucked up taboo things. only watched 1 ep of tehxnolyze, the reason y i will watch ep 2? this strange but attractive lady in charge of sum captive dude is like on top of him having a riding good time then she brings her sharpened fingernail to his eye. k so im defo watchin more lol. so freezing wasnt dark or brutal til we find out bout the main female characters past which was totally fucked up she ended up in someone elses home and the son makes her his "pretty doll" totally took that costume ripping candy fluff to a darker place which made it waaaaaaay better imho. mebbe its dark themes that make ecchi better ...lol either way i appreciate sum sex with my violence ;) ![]() |

In elfen lied when the one guy tries to rape her I didn't really think that added to it very well it kinda felt out of place but in some cases it adds to the trauma that the people go through which adds more to the dark atmosphere surrounding the character like in Freezing when you found out what happened to her in her childhood. Mind you Freezing was way to excessive in the nudity scene I mean not a single episode went by without nudity which kinda destroyed it for most people including myself and the storyline was really messed up cause they were fighting each other and not the enemy I can understand a little quarrel but that took up half or more of the episodes. Well I say it can add to the story but doesn't necessarily have to in fact it can destroy as well. In gantz you can say some of it added to the story but the excess amounts of it kinda made it a little to awkward mind you I still liked it but it could have been good without the excess. True, Gantzs sex scenes were just awkward, and Elfien Lied can of gave me the chills (creeped out) but over all i think that they both did better then some animes depicition of sex scenes like Freezing Signature removed. Please follow the signature rules, as defined in the Site & Forum Guidelines. |

I disagree.I think Gantz very well captured the atmosphere of a sexually frustrated virgin, and really think it added to Kei's character. Yes it was awkward and painful to watch, but it reflects the awkwardness of a sexually inexperienced teenager. As for other anime that have benefited from sex would be Blue Gender. I think it adds a much more mature and realistic atmosphere to the anime. Most anime are too scared to have realistic sexual relationships and so they make very sexually timid and modest characters. Every now and then though its good to see something with a bit more realistic portrayal of human interaction through sex. After all sex is a part of life and is therefore an element that shouldn't be ignored. The other way that sex benefits anime is purely for shock and awe, if played right. Usually this shock involves rape. This is a bit controversial subject, however, I feel it can really assist an anime in getting its point across or setting a dark atmosphere. Examples of this being done correctly would be Perfect Blue and Kara no Kyoukai. In these cases they build a dark atmosphere for their movies for a good shock and awe. However, there are cases where it can go wrong. Such is the case of Violence Jack. Yes it sets a dark atmosphere, however, the way it does it, it seems as though they do it just to do it, and really just takes it too far without advancing the plot. I must say, after typing this out I must agree, this is a hard topic to explain. I sure hope it got though well enough though because I'd imagine its easy to misinterpret. |
