I buy one at a time, because I just bike to the store whenever I want. Not sure if I go crazy, because I am currently just waiting for more volumes to come out. Not crazy to spend $10-$12 for 1-2 hours of reading, but I love to look at my collection.

I would if I could. My money is just piling up and I have nothing to do with it. Mostly I end up wasting it on drinks and such. Because I live in norway and here they dont sell manga. Well, there is a store which sells a lot of manga in english, but there they DOUBLE the price! So I never buy there. I visit germany every year, and then I spend a lot of money on it. But then also I cant trasport so much. And Im still too young to get a credit card so I could buy online.

It's easy to get manga here. When I was younger, I bought whatsoever in the store that has my interest, the long-running shounen series for example. Ever since online reading was made prominent in mid 2000s, I stopped purchasing.

Perhaps when I'm less restrained financially as I grew older, I will buy some of my favourites as collection.

Just ordered 38 manga from japanese amazon.

Does that count as going crazy?

I can't afford it :/
But sometimes when I go to a convention i'll save up and maybe buy some for my friends :)
And when I do I usually buy first volumes of series I think they'd like :3
My sister owns alot, and she'll usually buy one when she see's it, or if theres a sale on madman. And if its an on going series she'll buy it when its released :)
Manga is pretty expensive and hard to find here un fortuanatly :/

My biggest splurge was when I bought volumes 2-17 of Rave Master off of Kijiji (similar to Craigslist). Spent... 60$ on it, I do believe.
Other than that, I think my biggest splurge was when I bought volumes 18, 19, 21-24 of Rave Master (couldn't find 20 >.<).
Typically, when I buy in bulk, it's when there's a big sale on at GameZilla (local comic/anime/manga/game store)

I agree with you, to an extent. Yes, it's an amazing feeling, holding the manga, but at the same time, it doesn't make you a "true" fan. It just makes you a fan with funds to pay for it.

Also, how long have you been collecting? Just curious, since I've purchased about that much this past school year alone.

Not at all. I don't think I've bought one manga, I've always read them online. I blame the industry -- if they published simultaneous English versions I would be first in line to pay for that, but I'm never going to buy manga 2 years after it was originally published. I don't know what the legal situation is like, but it seems like it would be easy to get a translation published directly to Kindle. Think about that -- 99 cents per issue, they'd make a killing. > <

I do :) I actually wait for the release date and buy it online just to secure a copy. I collect manga because I want to own a manga library.

Does that sound weird?

It depends if I have enough money saved. It kinda depends on the price as well. If they're cheap, I do buy a lot at a time.

I also want a manga library! Which is why I buy manga whenever I can get a good deal! I also sometimes buy a first issue for full price to gift to people. But I'd say the most manga I've bought at once would be about 20.

Yup. xD I rarely ever get to buy manga now, so when I get the chance to order online, I end up splurging. I will only buy manga on sites with promotions or discounts though. So many series are unreasonably priced these days.

I used to buy lots of manga each month, often 30 volumes or more. Nowadays I try to restrict myself a little because I don't have that much money (and space on my shelves xD), but I still buy around 10 books each month (sometimes more if I find a cheap offer somewhere).

I don't typically buy manga any more, but I used to buy like 1-3 manga a month when I was in high school. Occasionally I would buy manga when I lived in Korea since they were cheaper there (Japanese-language manga), but now that I'm back in the USA it's hard to justify spending 11 bucks on a manga... I'd rather spend the money on something that lasts longer, like a game or anime.

About 8-10 years ago, it used to cost me US$ 4 ( conversion ) a manga. I started reading online ever since 2007 because it feeds me the latest chapters. Just recently, I went to check out the my local retailer and found that the publisher in my country did fold although manga translated from other countries still make their way here.

According to my LibraryThing's statistics, this month marked my largest purchase of 182 volumes at one time. Previous large purchases were 172, 166, 131, and 95 volumes. I believe my largest purchase at once was actually 300 volumes for $100 a while back, but that was before I had my LibraryThing account, so don't even remember when that was.

So yeah, I guess I go a bit crazy buying manga, but I try not to spend a fortune on it.

Yes. I spend most of my wages on manga. I rather buy manga than go out for a drink. I can buy anywhere from 5-20 volumes a month, sometimes more if I can get a really good deal (basically got the whole collection of Boys over Flowers, bar volume 2 for £35! Just over a pound per book) - also depends on the release date of series I'm collection, things like One Piece, Ao No Exorcist, Fairy Tail, Dogs Bullets & Carnage, I'll buy on release date and others I don't mind waiting for the price to drop.

The saddest thing is, there is still a lot more I want to buy, but I don't have the shelf-space to keep buying manga.

I agree with you there, shelf-space is a major worry for me, I have so much that I just have piles of manga on my floor. With series as long as One Piece I just started reading online after buying the 20th volume.

With my recent purchase of 620 volumes, seems I'll have to start stacking manga on the floor as well. I can probably rearrange things to get some on my shelves, but there's no way all of them are going to fit.

Good God, if I spent my money on manga as well I'd be probably a NEET or a college drop out waiting tables for the rest of my days. I already spend enough on video games! Then college expenses are killing me as well. Add manga to the equation and you got another unemployed bum walking on the streets.
Hey man, it's ok. Everyone's good at doing something. College is a joke anyway. Society just thinks it's good. In society, and MD who got to the top by connections is better than a "world-class" degree-less surgeon working to help gang members.

In my experience, anyone (except those who can't think AT ALL, as in you know...) can wield a scalpel to flesh without reading a book. It's experience and knowledge that matters, not sitting in lecture halls.

If you wanna be a REAL surgeon, go to a cadaver lab, not suck your professor's dick. If you want to be a "surgeon" in this society, you've gotta suck it dry, and I mean "D R Y"

I don't always buy manga, but when I do it's usually in 1-12 volumes worth. On the other hand, when I buy American Comics, it's a single volume at a time, as most good American comics are one shots anyway. My manga collection is only around 200 volumes though, and for comics it's well under 30. So much easier to read online.

I have bought about 12 mangas at once before though on a sale.

Edit : Did I mention the closest bookshop with manga is at least $15 a volume?

Its raping my wallet.
