No thread for the first episode? Anyway, everything's set up nicely, and we're given the basic story. Still no idea what Yuji's disease was supposed to be. Guess that's for later. I wonder where they'll go from here?

Very nice first episode: badass bugs that seem to be made out of kevlar, the classical in medias res with the deep-sleeping character that still proves effective here, a nice military feel to the mecha action, I'm sold.

Pretty violent episode but at the same time, those shock scenes and insectoid-like beings were...so cliched.

Hope the story will be good.

Damn what an episode, first episode in and I'm already hooked.
The OP song was nice and so was the ED.

Thankfully he saw a cute girl first when he first saw a human instead of that crazy yelling guy or else he will still be running and pissing himself from humans too.

not bad but feels overly familiar*

some nice designs and good songs though

*cheated and looked up the overall plot for this. Seems like they just decided to rewrite Blue Submarine No 6 (which came out the previous year) to make it a bit more like Evangelion.
That probably even explains why the storyline of this changes abruptly. They even finished airing within a week of each other!

Well that was a tad bleak. Very Starship Troopers without the humor.

I hope this Anime is any good! Seems to have a interesting plot...First episode was kind of awkward, to slow, action parts to static... Yeah, and I hope the doctors in 2031 can treat the disease he have.

Well, that was one hell of an awakening. English dub is alright, the opening song is better in the original though.

Looks pretty interesting. its understandable but this dude was strait up traumatized almost the entire episode . I'm really curious why these humans in mechs were saving him in particular.

It looks like all the other people that got frozen at the same time he did died, it was implied when he looked at one of those throwup balls of human goo .and the other capsles being open with blood all over them. These aliens are pretty nasty picked the wrong anime to be snacking to apparently.

Yeah I never actually watched any of this . Like a poster said above me I was aware it come on late after cowboy bebop (I was probably around preteen/early teens?) but i usually never managed to stay up that late. Thus I'm watching this now at 26 years old and I watched cowboy bebop only a couple years ago.

i had no idea that blue gender was a 90's anime! or pushing it, nearly a 2000's anime. i thought it was made from 2004-2008. i could tell this was a special anime 8 minutes in, i was like, i can't just casually watch this. i need to watch it away from distractions. so i did, and it was great. seriously hate that dude's sideburns and haircut though, oh god. nasty. the one thing that interfered with my enjoyment was that the audio was unusually very quiet and then spiked up in volume at certain points, at least where i was watching it. i would turn up the volume to hear better and then BAM! yuji's scream is resounding bloody MARY in my ears. the aliens are very reminiscent of the alien franchise if i must say so. what was up with those frozen yogurt balls of humans stuck to humans in a blue goo? or more specifically; how did that happen? the ending sounds like something i would like, i'll have to listen to it later as i skip ops and eds as i'm watching.

So far, I think I prefer the bugs. This seems to be an NGE knock off, complete with a screamer like Shinji. Let’s see if it picks up in the next episode.

Me: That girl is cute, maybe she'll be a main charact...

ohh okay then.

I liked this, it's different, not so much so compared to other dark mecha series but then again compared to how shitty current seasonals are I much prefer this. This episode doesn't give away alot but still gave you enough to be intrigued.

I thought this first episode was done very well. The pacing felt great and the art was beautiful. Maybe because I’m watching this in 2020 but I’m happy to see the bugs are not CGI. The music to me is the star, it felt similarly to Jordan Peels movie with the ability to have the music really draw out the fear and anxiety.

Never seen a main character piss himself in fear before.

The "Blue" aliens are certainly disquieting. Having them form clusters of mucilaginous human biomass and growths on previously inhabited buildings makes the setting seem even more hopeless than usual for a story about a post-apocalyptic planet. No complaints so far.
