But, as your first half of that statement said, it was still enjoyable. :) I have to say, though, that I hope Gon doesn't end up being one of those characters whose only flaw is blind innocence or naïveté or both. Kind of makes for a boring, generic protagonist. However, I do like the uniqueness of his animal-empathy/animal-communication power. |

| Feeling: Seasick, Shock For a moment i felt in one piece. Im liking Gon character more and more... New skill: predicting weather :D Oooh and just as i said previously when i first saw blondie guy(Kurapika)... he looks like a spoiled rich boy or the smart guy in the series...seems like he is the second!! Plus, great reflexes!! Then... the surprise... Mr. Captain-san is a hunter examinator!!! .O. Overall: Im not a fan of ship, sea travels and pirates stories, but this episode did well |

| I have to agree that the OP and ED -- especially the ED -- are super great. 90's nostalgia~ I miss the energy from the 2011 ver, tho --- guess part of that is 'cause each scene is drawn out to the max, but it's hard to connect with what's happening with the dialogue...... Like, what as with Leorio? Why did they exaggerate his bad qualities? Ugh. ;__; Kurapika VA has a lovely voice. It's hard waiting for white-haired kid -- my fave of the four. I wonder, if he had been the starting protag, would Gon have been my favorite? They compliment each other too well -- the wait is agonizing. :P |

| From a few episodes, it has become clear as day that while the 2011 version was more expansive, among other things that comes with a newer series, the 1999 one is looking to be superior in terms of character development. Leorio is a far more developed character already than the Leorio in the 2011 version at the end of the hunter exam arc. Kurapika comes off as annoying and uptight in this one, but my god, does it fit into his development One thing I appreciate with the 2011 version is that it doesn't feel like it has an obligation to explain everything character development wise along the way. It gives more freedom to the viewer to take whatever perspective they find to form their own opinion. Also, similar to other anime of this period, unlike the 2011 version, the 90s version comes off as imo cliched storytelling by piling up coincidence after coincidence to move a linear story forward. That is the one thing I couldn't stand in older anime. |

| Even the ship was different from the pilot episode, but with this I guess the story how far I know it ends. Seems like we have our three first protagonists now, unfortunately it will apparently stay a sausage fest :< |
| Another great episode, the exam already started without warning and most people couldn't even handle the storm during the travel to stand a chance in the test. I really liked the scene where the captain remembered Ging after seeing his son warn about the storm, they really are family! The scene with Kurapika and Leorio fighting was very solid too, especially when both went to help the sailor who was going to fall to the water, that made them get closer and solve their differences. I need to mention the quote that Gon said, "if you want to know someone, know what makes them angry", that sounds hella accurate honestly, especially fitting for the situation they were in. |

| Kurapika is an interesting guy, his talking style is weird, like, over intelectual. The fight was too static. Ok episode. |
