Great episode. Was that backstory in the manga? As far as the scene where Killua threatens to kill Milluki if he touches any of his friends, this version was a bit more creepier and darker. Killua's look was a little more serious/evil when he confronted his mother as well. This series is getting better and better every week. Can't wait till next week's episode. Didn't know the Zolydyk saga would be so short in this version.

<33 THAT. WAS. AMAZING.
So amazing, I'm like speechless right now.

It confuzzles me so much though. Killua's eyes are COLD, when his assassin family is really the one who would make him cold. It's so weird, I wonder what's happening but that's why I love it!

Ugh. I hate that mother so much. And mother in both senses of the word xDD. She's so annoying; I just want to slap her. And I genuinely thought that Silva was an awesome guy, but he's just planning something so whatevs...

I hope that Killua will stay a while with everyone though! I luvz him so much I just want to cuddle him to death!!!!! :333 Even though he'd probably kill me in an instant D;
Oh, but I have to say. Killua was pretty creepy in his threats. This show is confusing me so much to tell the truth. You would think that Killua would be influenced to become more pleasant because of Gon but then he threatens Milluki and his mother in such a creepy way that even I felt scared. I just really don't know anymore. There's so much going on inside of Killua, his emotions could turn any way. Sadly, they look to be more dark than good. :/

Killua~Gon~Kurapika~Leorio! Finally together again<3 -- Even though it's only been a few episodes ;P

Cannot wait for next week. It's gonna be awesome :3 Butler time! Although I strongly dislike all those butler shows, I love these butlers because they're plain awesome.
Oh, speaking of butlers, I really do love that girl. She's so interesting in her past with Killua, I really want to see more of her soon :)

WoW!! When Killua talked to his dad it was so intense! I was like wow, he really is to great to be true, I bet he will cut of Killua's arm or something before the conversation ends. And it was kinda true. That was the part i enjoyed most in this episode :)

When this version first began I had a lot of doubts given the colorful and misleading cheery "aura" it had. I'm am definitely pleasantly surprised to see how Madhouse is adapting the manga rather well, including the dark tones and hints of the manga without loosing grip of the "warm" and nice friendship between Gon and his friends.

With that being said, I loved this episode. I wasn't expecting the little filler of Canary and Killua's little backstory, but damn, Canary sure whipped some rear. And the way Killua interacts with his family is so cold and terrifying one can help but get the chills.

I just love how it keeps on getting better and better with each passing episode <3 Having to wait a week between episodes is so frustrating!

Wow, I presumed his father would be some insane freak, he actually seems pretty understanding, until the end of course. It was pretty funny how pissed off Milluki looked, yet Killua took all the whips pretty easily.
Such a good episode as usual.

That's what makes Killua an unique character which you hardly find anywhere, youll get to know his dark side more in the future. he's a good boy nevertheless though but will never be hestitate to kill an enemy who needs to be killed, or to eat one needing to be eaten

Usually I don't mind if they change things, after all I think FMA and the beginning of FMA: Brotherhood weren't bad.

However I hated this episode. Everything feels so cheap, infantile, "in your face", like watching a film with orange and blue scenes. There is no subtleness, the past shown here from Killua and Kanaria even altered how their personalities are to be presented. I love HxH, but this episode to me was 1 out of 5.

I find it immature that others have to bash by just looking at lists. Such a way of discussion is weak.
Also the fact that you keep track of the manga doesn't tell you have to be right always.

Speaking of this week episode...
That Zoldyck family intro is annoying. When it will stop?
That Zoldyck theme played is something, gave me chills this time.

Backstory was pretty nice, Canary so epic. Otherwise Killua was pretty cool. Best moment was Father son chat as well Killua just breaking free. It changed my impression of the family, only the mom seems crazy of sorts, and the way she ran and gets angry.

I merely said what I thought about the episode. The creature who brought anything about being up to date to the manga was this one up there.

So, shall we refresh our memories, shan't we?

Now, the best way to prove anything it is of course with evidence. Physical evidence clearly isn't an option, so all I'll have it is arguments. Whether anyone will provide a reasonably logical rebuttal it is an entirely different matter. I'm an optimistic person so I hope this will be at least a somewhat decent discussion.

In cinematography, design and so on, one of the first things one would learn is that orange and blue sceneries are easily something that pleases the eyes of the beholder. There are a myriad of techniques such as this one which are replicated frequently in all sorts of media.
From the beginning of Hunter X Hunter many complained that the colours were somewhat happy and gay. Fair enough but at least at that time it could be ignored because it didn't affect much the mood of the characters and everything extra done so far didn't incur much in interfering with any of the characters' story development. The manga is black-and-white(and some tens of shades of gray) and as such some of what happened could be simply an alternative interpretation of the moods of the story.

However this episode in particular the moods are blatantly obvious. The evil sable lair of the "malicious" Silva Zoldyck. The sudden darkened colours of Killua "cold" stare. Even whilst Zeno-sama is mentioned the music switch to a "macabre" soundtrack. If an analogy to comedy sketches were made, HxH would be one of the kind that you laugh whenever the prompt laugher is on. Throughout the manga the shades tend to only change under crucial circumstances.

The overall effect of this exaggerated mood striking, colours changes and "sinister" music played cheapens the scenes where it would be actually fitting. Or in lay terms; it is trying too hard. I'm even surprised there was no "boo" fright moment or there were nobody trying to attack a person in a shower.

There are many outstanding factors in HxH which contrast many anime, i.e. subtle character development. It doesn't need to tell everything about a character, incidentally the great emphasis given to how their personalities affect everything they do is quite intriguing and one of the most interesting aspects of HxH.

Not that I mind you disliking this episode, but none of what you offer are arguments. It is merely your preference. Therefore none can offer "logical rebuttals".

Killua's father is crazy as well. He probably made that promise because he knows that he (father) in the past probably killed his friends so his so will do the same and come back as an assassin like in Naruto xD.

The author has done a great job with this family unit.
Nobody's worst then the other, even a likeable main who's oppose to his sociopathic family isn't allowed to take any moral highground and doesn't attempt to - the understanding dad turns creepy and the grandad who comes across as wise an social wears a 'one kill a day' logo.
I'm wondering if people have now forgotten how sinister Illumi seemed upon introduction?

I like how Milluki has the better perception on personality types and personal potential then anyone else, even though he's the one who's content in a sheltered life - it shows that being a quite observer is as handy as getting out there.

Loving Canary - it's nice to see a sweet, sensible, non-bipolar girl who can handle herself and others.

The whole meeting with his father has disappointed me, especially because his eyes lucked that intensity that made you feel that you where speaking to a great figure.
Generally the new series feels that it lacks some subtlety and it tries to be more simplistic in the aura it gives.

Maybe because you've read/watched it before?

I don't think it lacks subtlety at all. I mean it's following the manga well without adding some features to characters that cause inconsistencies like the original had with, mainly to Killua.
It still didn't give away anything that will be used in the future while still keeping it there. It feels simple and light because of the artwork which is supposed to look a bit less dark in earlier arcs although it is getting darker as the series progresses.

The pacing seemed off this episode, like it had slowed way down...
In the old version they spent a lot of time at the training which was covered in one episode this time.
So going into canary's back story seemed like they were trying to lengthen out the scene; but I haven't read the manga and going from what people are saying, I will assume that the backstory was in the manga but omitted in the original production...

another possible reason though is that I had a "Oh the managaka is on hiatus again" mentality when I watched this episode

I'm surprised by how well the remake is dealing with the darker themes... they're not shying away from the violence and blood, and they're not covering up what's actually happening. I'm glad the censorship's getting better. I don't really have any complaints about the new version anymore, except for the background music~

Surprised that they included stuff that wasn't in the manga though... (at least, where I've read. I'm reading it pretty much alongside the new anime so it might be there later.) So far the remake's abandoned all the original's extra padding, so it was strange that they elaborated on Killua and Kanaria's past. Not complaining though, it just surprised me to see it XD.

Killua's face when Milluki mentioned killing Gon, Kurapika and Leorio! He looked so nuts whut.

Incredible episode. I find Killua so much more menacing here, and it's obvious the Zoldyck family has a completely different way of life. Such as how the mother actually seemed proud of Killua for threatening her at the end. I like how this series is gradually escalating the tone throughout.

I love it when something is subtle. But there is a time and place for it and this is not a fitting situation for it. You NEED to have the creepiness shoved in your face here, to understand that these people are not normal by any stretch of the imagination. It gives you a firm grip of what Killua is really like. Can't speak much about the Canary and Killua scene, but it seems most of the manga readers are happy with it so I'm pretty certain that isn't the case.
