I just hope it's not a recap, but instead a "remake" similar to that "rebuild of Evangelion" movies. ![]() Figma White Rock Shooter and Insane Black Rock Shooter |

Exciting. Too bad about the wait, though. It will be interesting to see how the Madoka movie does against the Evangelion one. I wonder which'll get more people...but I'm betting on Eva. ^^ |

Gundam: No Gundam TV series has sold more than Madoka, which at 71k edged out Seed Destiny (68k) by a few thousand. 1st Gundam has averaged about 80k lifetime, true, but that's over decades of re-releases. Sales comparisons are generally done based on initial release sales, not including boxsets, in the interests of fairness. Evangelion: Yep, this of course sold better, even in its first release which was over 100k. It's the best selling TV series ever by a large margin. Madoka is #3. Ghibli: They make movies, it's not really comparable. I'd wager Yarodomo was talking about TV series only, which is generally taken as a given in these discussions. Nobody disputes that Sen to Chihiro or Tonari no Totoro (etc) have sold vastly more than any TV series ever has, or ever even could. That defense aside, I don't mean to agree with what I took as Yarodomo's implication that Madoka's sales imply some measure of mainstream-ness. I don't think they do, any more than Bake's 78k does. That 71k average is still coming overwhelming from existing anime fans, I have no doubt. Anime costs too much to sell to anyone else. BUY YUYUSHIKI BDS ALL DAY EVERY DAY |

Madoka will be very very successful for a late night anime movie, no doubt. But Evangelion is on a completely different level in terms of box office takings. The first movie took in approximately ¥2bn, and the second took in ¥4bn. If Madoka takes in even ¥1bn, it will still be one of the highest grossing late night anime movies ever (K-ON! is currently highest I'm aware of, at ¥1.7bn). So you're just talking about different worlds here. BUY YUYUSHIKI BDS ALL DAY EVERY DAY |

Good, at least we've got a date now. I just hope it'll do justice to the series and is not just a bunch of anime scenes put together. Re-animating and even adding new scenes would be awesome, though. |
