dtshyk In the article, director Shinbo Akiyuki said he was worried that anime has been out of mainstream entertainment and hoped Madoka will attract the attention of the general public. [/quote said: So Madoka hasn't generated enough money for this guy, yeah? Haha... |

Shinbo's a good director and this should be a great watch per usual. He never said he was going to change the anime so it's for the general public; he just said he hopes they notice the anime. You guys should really decrease the amount of things you inject into your bodies. It's unhealthy. |

Supergrunt8 said: Either way I hope it ain't a recap. It's a recap or a retelling - how much from each is unclear. I doubt it'll be a cut-and-paste job but I'm not sure it'll be telling a shockingly different story either, in the first two movies. It will be interesting to see what incentives they give people to go watch it. The K-ON! movie was enormously successful (as in most successful movie adapted from a late night TV anime ever if I'm not mistaken, given the caveat that Evangelion wasn't in a late night TV slot; otherwise, 2nd, either way ¥1.7 billion and counting), so there are tactics to emulate there in terms of special goods attached to tickets and such. While much of its success is indeed just very very broad appeal and positive reception not just among fans but in mainstream press, the ability to encourage a hardcore of fans to go see it over and over and over surely helped a lot. Certainly it seems like a model worth considering for any show with a very passionate fanbase, and Madoka certainly has that. BUY YUYUSHIKI BDS ALL DAY EVERY DAY |

VioLink said: Magical girl animu? Attracting general public? Hahahahhaha this guy. one word: Precure they not only make money in cinema (like 10 million dolars from Pretty Cure All Stars DX3) but also gives loads of cash from toys and whatnot (here we have nice sum of 160 milion dolars) so yeah it may work problem is that it's easy to use child as an excuse to go for Precure movie... but doing it the same with Madoka, it may be a bit difficult plus attracting some non-interested people to go for it (K-On! didn't seem to have such problems) Modified by Dalek-baka, 03-16-12, 9:32 AM |

Dalek-baka said: VioLink said: one word: PrecureMagical girl animu? Attracting general public? Hahahahhaha this guy. Right, magical girl anime (when aimed at young girls) is way more "mainstream" than late night anime. Of course Madoka is not aimed at young girls and therefore there's no particular reason to think it'll go mainstream, i.e. no reason to believe it'll make large inroads outside of late night anime fandom. I'm sure it'll pick up some more casually curious viewers than a late night TV broadcast would, of course. But it doesn't really need to, and even if it lacks the fanservice stigma some late night anime have (it's not Queen's Blade or High School DxD certainly), it's fairly dark material nonetheless, which can pose its own issues for widening viewership. Madoka has received critical acclaim outside of your normal blogger and 2chan venues, but I don't think that translates into all *that* large an increase in numbers of non-anime fan viewers.
