Vaskre said: I found the story to be really touching and quite involving. However, I must say that I enjoyed the the beginning of the anime far more than the end. While the end was touching, I disliked to rapid scaling of power that was found towards the end of the series. At first, Gungrave felt like a plausible story throughout most of it, but turned into this high-powered anime that really just killed the immersion level for me. I still love the series to death, don't get me wrong, (it's one of my favorite anime of all time) but if I had to choose something to gripe about, that would be it. The beginning of Gungrave was just a 'setting-the-scene' kind of thing, but it gave the entire anime a greater purpose and great depth of reason. I found myself enjoying the flashbacks a lot too, even though flashbacks are usually shunned. Towards the end of Gungrave, the pace changed and a sort of apocalyptic 'ending' mood kicked in, it made me so sad to feel that Gungrave was going to end soon =( ![]() |

I disliked the ending most. I don't care if anime is based to a game or not, but if 2/3 of series tells about Brandon Heat and his life, I think it's unfair to suddenly change the focus on revenge/shooting/killing fight. It's natural that there's some fighting, you can guess it from the first episode, but a whole mood changes when timeline gets to the present time. Luckily, the last episode's focus returns to Brandon and his loyalty, which is series major theme. |
