Hm, I personally find myself enjoying Yamato more so far. I put Harlock on Hold after like 14 episodes, because it just didn't entertain me as much. First I was disappointed that the pirate theme was only in name plus the whole plot didn't interest me as much as this one so far.

It's not the same voice actor though, Envoy looked it up :/

Honestly Harlock doesn't really take off until the second half, I remember episode 20 being a huge turning point, the whole dynamic of the show seemed to change after that. Like you, I had a hard time pushing myself to watch the first half of the series, but just know that the best is yet to come! Every time I watch an episode of Yamato I can't help but think to myself exactly what Envoy said, "Harlock improved upon Yamato's formula". But then again, I do expect the second season of Yamato to be much improved over the first, so I'll just have to wait and see.

I wish I could join you guys on this one since I am already part-way through this anime, but I am just too busy right now unfortunately.

That's good to know, I'll definitely keep that in mind when I consider resuming the watch next time. Though I plan to go through all the Yamato seasons first now that I'm already at it.

What keeps bothering me with older anime is that they seem to not have given a crap about lip synchronity back then. At times that's really obvious. Huh, so I'm actually not crazy. Actually we're gonna speed up the pace a bit because I need to finish before April 1 (I'm going to Paris then). But in case you want to continue with season 2 after that you can catch up while I'm gone (probably gonna start season 2 when I'm back).
