Number-of-titles achievements are on their way, along with I Like Them Long. The real problem is that there are three times more manga entries than anime, so I'm not sure if listing all insert_any_genre_here titles makes sense, since there will be a shitload of them. We could limit it to the most "representative" titles, ignoring unpopular ones.

Suggestions based on this thread:
- mahou shoujo (list)
- mystery/detective (code or list? I guess a list would be better)
- romance (code?)
- shounen ai/yaoi (code?)
- games excluding sports (list)
- sports? (code?)

I don't really like the idea of letting the code "decide" on that, since I don't trust genres on MAL, and we would end up with very many titles that aren't related to given genres.

I'm with you, the genres on MAl are not that accurate :|

Games has only seven pages for the manga genre tag, so a list shouldn't be too horrendous to put together. Sports should also be easily doable. Shounen-ai/yaoi is probably better off being done using the code; I think I trust that genre code enough to not mislabel something with those. Romance is such a huge genre that I don't see any good way of quickly drawing up a list without it being ridiculously long. Just make the threshold higher, maybe? Mystery/detective should probably be a list just in case.

In either case, I will try to have badges done for the X anime/manga completed and I Like Them Long sometime this weekend. I was gathering screencaps and stuff. :)b

Code for Shounen ai/yaoi should work assuming you group both in one achievement since all seem tagged appropriately.

I had no time to follow the club recently, but there's one thing that's been on my mind. I think that the length chart for manga should use volumes, not chapters (with zero volumes reserved for one-shots). After all, one average volume can contain from four (typical for monthly or quarterly manga) to twenty and more in case of 4-panels.

Something simple, on the Ratings per decade section, could the pop up possibly show the count of the titles as well. eg
7.27 - 36
Or something similar.

A few achievement suggestions,

It's Over 9000! - Watch 9001+ anime episodes, Picture of Vegeta breaking the scouter (Vegeta what does the scouter say about his episode count?)
Military Buff - Watch 20 Military series
I Command You! - Watch 40 Military series, Picture of Lelouche using Geass (Took command of the rebel army)
General - Watch 60 Military series, Picture of rank insignia (May I call you sir?)

At least on Genres and Studios you could make the list, even limited to 10 entries would be good.

It can be achieved "easily", so I would suggest to make a level 2 up to 4 for it. 36001+ anime episodes on list means an art of life... The picture could be the same with the level number on one of it's corner.

Okay. I can't really tell when we'll have it done though.

The API doesn't return such data, so MALgraph has no way of knowing how many times you've rewatched/reread any title. You could contact the MAL's team, but I believe it has been mentioned multiple times already, and no one is bothering with updating the API.

Is it possible to show the difference between your mean score and the average mean score like they used to?

Also, is it possible to show the mean score for different series lengths? For example, do I score series in the 14-26 range higher than 7-13 range?

Thanks.

Like in the first MALgraph? Nope, Mg2 doesn't have any global stats.

Nice idea! I'll write it down for future updates (don't expect anything for the next few months though - I have a thesis to write, and rr- is quite busy).

Really? It used to say that your average was so much above or below the global average.... I swear it did... Maybe I was using something else...

Though, what I really want to get behind is the average score for each year, or even maybe! for each season, so I may look back and see that the winter season for 2011 was shit, but the spring season for that year was fantastic! What with two cour shows that might be difficult, but I really do like that thought.

Yes, it did! I meant it was possible in the first MALgraph (the tiny one that looked like this), but isn't possible in the current version.

The average score will be shown for years and decades, as opposed to decades-only as it is now. I guess we'll add the "mean score" text to activity timeline, which shows number anime completed in a given month (no seasons, sorry!)

Hello. Here's my suggestion for the achievement. It's the achievement about short animes (1 to 60 minutes). Of course the number of needed titles to reach the achievement should be a bit more than standard. Also specials for TV-series shouldn't be included. Independent titles only.
Or it can be something about arthouse.
The list of such animes you can find in some MAL clubs - for example The Shorts Club, Artsy, The Stop-Motion Animation Appreciation Society and some others, also it can be checked by watching the info about concrete authors.
P. S. Where can I find the full list of achievements? Only one that I found has just mecha, slice of life, history, gar and piko achievements. Please help me find the full list.

Or at least an achievemnt to the real classic titles, like Umi no Shinpei, Chagama Ondo, Suteneko Tora-chan, Nakamura Katana, Kumo no Tulip and so on. Those, what were created before 1959, the end of the black and white era. For start, there are directors like Kenzou Masaoka, Mitsuyo Seo.

I love MALgraph, but one thing is bothering me. Let me explain it in an example:

January: I think "Hm... this XXX anime looks intersting. Let's give it a try!" and watch 1-2/26 episodes. After that, I think "Uh, boring" and I put it on my dropped list.
April: I think "I have nothing to watch. Maybe that XXX anime wasn't that bad?" and I complete XXX.

And then, guess what? I view my MALgraph... and I see that I've completed XXX in January. It's untrue. Any hope for improving it?

But, for example for Kuuchu Buranko I have dates: 02.03.2012-12.12.2012 - and MALgraph says that I've completed it in March. Of course I can set start date to December, but I don't see a point in lying that way.
I think it's not so difficult to change this.

It used to be weighted, and most users said they weren't spot-on. It was a real pain to choose the right formula, and we ended up with powers like 0.889. That was in Mg2.

In Mg3, we use straightforward sorting - either by count or mean score - so we don't "guess" user's favorites anymore.

Will the archivements workshop be opened soon again? There may seem to be missing some more titles.
(like http://myanimelist.net/anime/14957/Shakugan_no_Shana:_Naze_Nani_Shana_2
http://myanimelist.net/anime/17551/Shakugan_no_Shana:_Shana_to_Yuuji_no_Naze_Nani_Shana
while it's prequel and anything else from the franchise is in the magical Girl Archievement list, [and which may be pretty much the last ones until I get rid of the Sailor Moon button, haha])

Aside that, Monthly activity in descending order is, in my opinion, perhaps more handy, it saves one to scroll to the complete right side of the graph. (Since whatever may change is usually among the recent months). Through that is mathematically also pretty counter-intuitive I guess.

Mg3 is open source, so the list is visible to anyone (here). I added the title you just posted to the server (not on GitHub).

Monthly activity should follow basic plot guidelines, which means further to the right = later time.

Thanks for the quick update through. =D

Guess, mathematically it really makes sense. Through may there be some way to have the default display on the furtherst right part? That would do just about the same of saving to scroll.

Am I correct in assuming that the franchise feature shows every anime that is connected to the "main" anime in any way? While I do think this is a great feature, I believe some changes have to be made since it also lists "Inukami!" to the Shakugan no Shana franchise list because they are connected by the Dengeki Bunko 2007 Festival Special. This should also be the case with various other anime like Gintama and SKET Dance, Lucky Star and Anime Tenchou or One Piece and Toriko.
Due to this, I think the franchise feature shouldn't count anime that are connected by the character tag on MAL.

I miss the weighted scores... You should make a poll like you did for the PTW, because i think I'm not the only one who wants this. I mean, I've got 9 studios in top for just one anime and that drops down my beloved SHAFT.

Oh, I found a bug too, in the main graph it says i read only one novel when i read 3. I' pretty sure the missing ones are Suzumiya Haruhi Series and Toradora! since the main score is 9 (My vote for NHK)

Is there a more complete version of the list? When I look at that page, it looks like the lists for Mecha and Slice of Life (just to name a couple examples) are missing a lot of titles. (Mecha has only 22 titles on the list that I see?)

The list is automatically generated from MAL's data for given title's genres. Some of them don't have set the genre properly (e.g. a lot of sequels to Historical series don't have a Historical genre), so we fill out the missing pieces.

I'll take a break now, that was a pretty busy day. We'll continue looking into things that don't want to work properly (I can't load any comparison now...). Thank you for all suggestions so far!

Don't know if this has been asked already or not but it has been the 1 downside I have seen so far with your site. It does not update in real time.

While this for many users may be a non issue. (after so long of using the site their personal lists will not update often) but when you have a new user their list will often rapidly change on at-least a daily basis, and as such to use the information you provide them with they have to wait until the site update period. I believe that you can quite easily set it up with an RSS feed (or one of the many similar feed updates) which MAL has built in. All the site would need would be a reader which checks every 5 minutes or so and automatically updates the site database with any new information.

I am not going to pretend to know your server constraints or your current specifications. And I understand that a constant checkup might be out of the capacity at this time but I believe that if you can at the very least increase the update time frame you would see better overall results.

WarcowUshi:

1. There are over 7300 anime titles and over 14500 manga titles in DB.
2. As for users, API does not provide one way to retrieve all the data we need. We have to scavenge through many different documents in order to get user data. It's a long shot but one user = 4 documents minimum AFAIR.
3. Let's assume we have 1000 users in DB (which is actually underestimate).
4. That's over 25000 documents to fetch. Most of unique visitors are just checking things out and never come back. And for some reason CURL has problems connecting to MAL, each transfer takes 4-5 seconds. (We use parallel requests, don't worry.) So the idea to put everything into cron is not going to work. Sorry.
