I know a guy who's rewatched Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu several times.... ![]() |

The "vs" part of this topic is pretty stupid. You're pretty much comparing one quality with a part of itself. Isn't the whole point of originality to try and make the product more interesting? As for how important it is...well, first off, I really dislike the "nothing's original so it doesn't matter" argument. Nothing can be entirely unoriginal either and I don't think every recent work lies on the exact same middle point. A more legit complaint is that few people who claim to value originality actually bother to research the influences. I'm pretty guilty of this myself. And if the very first harem, cutesy slice of life or superpower shounen shows happened to be revolutionary at the time, I do not begin to care about that either. Anyway, talking in extreme terms, I'd say that between a well-done cliche and a butchered experiment, I'll probably briefly acknowledge the former's superiority, then go on and on fantasizing about how cool the latter could've been. This gets blurrier with less borderline cases, but still, sometimes I just can't help forgetting the details for the ideas that amaze me at a glance. I really like those. |

Don't really see why there's a comparison between two values that truly make an anime or manga, as both are somewhat important. But deep down, I'd have to say that it'd have to be interesting in order to grab my attention. |

In a sense all work is original unless you make a direct copy of someone elses work. when a person's work seems very similar to other works, it will feel typical. so the better word for this is "typical." my take on this is that there is no unoriginal work, there is only ineffective work and effective work. for instance, drawing the same object is typical, but how well you pull it off can be interesting. |

Original plot doesn't have any meaning. It's sometimes better being not original, but intersting. |

Being interesting is always better, just because it's original doesn't make it "good" there is such thing as bad original idea. It doesn't think, it doesn't feel, it doesn't laugh or cry..... All it does from dusk till dawn is make the soldiers die. |
