Steins;gate gave me that similar feel. Not in the thriller sense, but in that hidden sense of despair that lurked in the background then eventually blew the fuck up into a suspenseful thrill ride.

The main difference between Mawaru and Utena is

Mawaru, you can watch without analyzing the show, and Utena you kind of can't. I like Mawaru better in that sense even though I know that Utena is 10x better overall. Ano Hana and Madoka are really hyped. I think Madoka deserves it though. Gen is really good at what he does. Ano Hana, I loved, but I consider it a guilty pleasure, a well done guilty pleasure. I wouldn't consider it a bad show by all means, but its not amazing like everyone says.

I'm a stupid person, so I don't really see all that shit. But if I see an slight explanation, I understand it all. Everything will just fall into place. Luckily for my English Lit major, reading the books led me to nothing, but the lectures explained everything and it all clicked.

More people should buy Kuragehime. Darn this anime market.
