Why is that listed as a "new" simulcast whereas Fate/Zero is "continuing" despite the fact both are essentially split cour? Oh well. I'll just list it as CR does. |

I can see that maybe they negotiated rights differently or something, but to those of us on the outside, that doesn't matter, and just seems inconsistent. Are there any other continuing series not already listed in the Continuing shows list up top? I can't think of any. Hopefully the rest of the boxes are all new shows. Vanguard (that obscure card game show that .1% of MAL, including myself, watch). The initial 65 episode run is just ending and the sequel starts next season. CR simulcasted it but doesn't have it listed as continuing. |

Disappointed that Kaasan finally ended, but I am looking forward to the spring 2012 as a whole, not just Crunchy's simulcasts. |

Rather small number of major shows so far. But most of those start airing this week so we should have a good couple next days, hopefully. BUY YUYUSHIKI BDS ALL DAY EVERY DAY |

Well Rock Lee was pretty much a given. Not really anything too surprising yet. I hope they are able to nab at least a few anime that weren't expected. ![]() |

Make arbitrary exceptions and the whole exercise becomes needlessly complicated, though. If we always use the original title, there's never any question. Consistency = best course of action and the original title with a consistent romanization system is the only way to achieve consistency when titles can often be translated a bunch of ways. I've always been rather impressed with how MAL handles titles, especially compared to the clusterfuck ANN becomes when they adopt changed titles after licenses. Besides, we have a title alias system to take care of the handful of outliers. Modified by jmal, 04-02-12, 2:21 PM BUY YUYUSHIKI BDS ALL DAY EVERY DAY |

They seem to be announcing all the titles that are not region restricted outside NA. I'm expecting that most titles that are left will be mostly NA only. |

RyanSaotome said: Is that something an anime mod should really be complaining about? <_< I didn't support it. @jmal, I agree that consistency is good to have, but since MAL is an English-speaking site, I've always felt we should go with official English titles where applicable for the database (and romanization otherwise). Things will get tricky at times (titles translated differently for different regions, sequels not licensed, etc.), but I think, with the right set of standards, there would be no issue that would be left uncovered. And doesn't anyone find it weird how many romanized titles we have while using western name order for characters? But I digress. This isn't the topic for that stuff, so I'll leave it at that. Anyway, I originally brought it up because I hate seeing the English title on CR but needing to know the Japanese title both to find it in the database and to add it to the list of relations for the topic (the relations mechanic sucks, by the way), along with putting both titles in the post, etc. In the future I may just put the English titles alone in the OP. It will always be linked, anyway. |

Redfoxoffire said: but since MAL is an English-speaking site About Japanese entertainment products, though, which is what matters. Which translation do you use before we have an "official" one? And do you switch again when it gets an "official" title, no matter how accurate or made up? Who decides? I really don't want to know as how as Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, then see it tagged The Eternity You Desire (or whatever of multiple possibilities is chosen) and then see it change yet again at some arbitrary point later on to nonsense like Rumbling Hearts because the rights holder or licensor felt like it. Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is always Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Anything else can go in "other names". And doesn't anyone find it weird how many romanized titles we have while using western name order for characters? Flipping name order from the original is always bad, but at least in character lists it's displayed "Family, Given" so I don't have the annoyance of having to mentally flip every name out of its original order while trying to find a character. Redfoxoffire said: In the future I may just put the English titles alone in the OP. It will always be linked, anyway. Please don't... that really is the quickest way to confuse people. The closer we get to everyone (regardless of their language) calling a show by the same name, the more easily we can all communicate. Translated titles won't get us there. I think they should be titled whatever is the general title of something. For example, I'm not seeing anyone call Space Brothers "Uchuu Kyoudai" or however you spell it... so why name it that here? It just causes confusion. If the main name people call it happens to be original Japanese, then name it that. ![]() |

Quickie here: jmal said: Which translation do you use before we have an "official" one? I answered that: Redfoxoffire said: (and romanization otherwise). Aka the way it is now if an entry doesn't have an official English name of any kind. However: Redfoxoffire said: This isn't the topic for that stuff, so I'll leave it at that. I will not continue. On topic post, on topic post...Interestingly enough, I don't think I planned on watching any of the currently announced simulcasts...though I might watch Hiiro no Kakera and Ozma. |
