I haven't listened to this song literally well over 1000 times, yet i dont quite know exactly what its saying. I know oranges are used to symbolise something. I have a vague understanding of what it symbolizes, bnut what is it exactly? Growing? life is unpredictable? life can be difficult?

Actually I'm quite interested in knowing also. It has a lot of symbolism but I think the gist of the song resembles Taiga with his relationship with Takasu.I'm not quite sure. =(
Aisaka Taiga:"There's something in this world that no one has seen before. It is gentle and sweet. Maybe if it could be seen, everyone would fight over it. That's why no one has ever seen it. The world hid it so that no one could get their hands on it easily. However, someday, someone will find it. The person who deserves it the most will definitely find it. This is how its created."

I've found that the songs today have nothing to do with the shows. They are a venue for the artists. The animators fit the characters to the song. You could be reading more into it than it needs to be.

The song is symbolic of the bittersweet nature of relationships and symbolizes much of the relationship between Ryuuji and Taiga in the 2nd half of the show. Here is a link that has translated lyrics: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/toradora/articles/9538/title/toradora-ending-lyrics-orange

This section of lyrics, from the middle of the song, is especially good:
"Even if they’re similar, they’re different
Mandarins and oranges
Friends and lovers
And our 2 hearts, too

I didn’t want to get hurt
So I fled
When I did that, not even light
Would shine upon me

They’re miracles, right?
Encounters and love
Seeds and buds
Even for the fruit that was still unripe"

And of course, the end of the chorus:
"I tried to eat
An orange today, too
But again, it was sour and I cried
Because it’s unlike me to leave any behind
I ate it all; I loved it
I felt like crying; I loved it
I loved it
I loved it; so sour
I felt like crying; I loved it"

I've also seen translations that actually use the word bittersweet in it. Yes, it is definitely a symbolic song about the show. (Even songs that are venues for artists are still usually written for the show.)

That's awesome! I always had an idea what it was about but was never 100%. xD
"We don't need memories, because I'm loving now so very much."
