Ever since the final of the fullbring arc, a lot of things from older chapters start to appear. I guess that Kudo's style of dealing with certain ideas is to delay them till a far away future and catch us off guard. Something that I liked about Fullmetal Alchemist, so it's approved.

As for the whole Quincy thing, all I can say that it makes perfect sense that they are, since they declared war on the shinigami who almost eradicated them from the earth itself 200 years ago. Other than that, nothing else.

For a quincy to have a partial hollow mask on his face...if Kubo is pulling a quincy/hollow hybrid like the Arrancar, I quit Bleach here and now. That would be the most boring, uncreative and cheap thing he could pull off. Who knows...

Or, by a chapter name, its a bad recognition on main cast part.

Quincy is NOT a race. Its a teaching.

A shinigami could be a quincy.
A hollow could be a quincy.
A fullbringer could be a quincy.

Its a teaching that takes hundreds of years to hone into bloodline and it stems from an older race of "magic hunters"

Regardless of you thinking of them as not a "race", but a "teaching", that does not negate the possibility of a Hollow/Quincy hybrid, a Hollow gaining Quincy powers, a similar situation where a Hollow gains Shinigami powers. You mentioned that a variety of different beings ( shinigami, fullbringers, etc. ) could be a Quincy. That's plausible, I am fine with that. So why is it so farfetched of an idea for their to be a Hollow/Quincy hybrid? Are you implying that because Quincies are not a "race" and is instead a "teaching" that any being is capable of learning, that there can't be a hybrid of the two where a Hollow gains their powers? If you can accept other beings becoming one, I don't understand how my view is any lesser of a possibility than yours.

And while any of this could be possible, I still stand by what I originally posted. It would seem like a rather cheap and boring route for Kubo to take IF, and I'm saying IF, he were to take it. We already had the Arrancar, another hybrid like them would seem unoriginal.

These "quintespada" or whatever they are, can't be Royal Guards. That doesn't make sense. They might share the same powers as the royal guard but if they're the reason behind the dissapearing souls and hollows then they'd be damaging a system that the Soul King has been supporting for thousands of years. So Royal guard is not how I would describe them, I can't even accept the thought that they're ex-royal guards cause I have this feeling that... just like the shingami... once you're in, you're in forever, otherwise you'll be hunted down and locked up in a maggot's nest.

Except the current SS is pro-liberalism and going away from the ways they were in before.

Think about this - What has changed in last few years in ss? Easy - Ichigo came in and upset the balance of the place, challenging the laws that were set for thousands of years. It could be as simple as Soul King not liking the direciton it all goes.

Remember what english people did when they did not like the fact that certain colony of theirs is getting too independent?

It would make sense for them to count SS as opposition, not to mention that there are millions of possibilities on why RG would count SS as enemies: Ichigo's existence and secret behind his birth for example
First, Ivan. The RG could have a grudge against the shinigami and yes, I agree that the possibility that they fear or want Ichigo restricted is very high but Ivan didn't look like a person who wanted to hurt Ichigo. At least before he got kicked in the face...

Of course, the fact that he isn't masked like the SS-"visitors" could suggest that he's their enemy and that the other 7 black-masked guys/girls are different... so for them, I'm going to reiterate my last and strongest argument... "The Tearing" and "The Disappearences", those that have been mentioned in the last two chapters, why would the RG be responsible for something like that, destroying the 13 divisions of Soul Society shouldn't need such drastic measures as destroying everything around it as well. Wouldn't such a thing trouble the Soul King more than the potential threat of a teenage shinigami and a liberal SS?

Orihime opening the window was pretty funny and it seems like quincys are declaring war? but for some reason i feel Ivan is a bit different then the other ones.

I don't think Ivan is actually a hollow hybrid. Quincys are said to despise hollows, so becoming hybrids would be kinda plot-holish.

http://www.mangareader.net/94-490-12/bleach/chapter-36.html

Unless they figured that the only way to defeat the SS was by taming hollows/(hollow powers) and using them like attack dogs or something. I could go for something like that.

So he's a Quincy? Sounds great but I hope Kubo has got a good plot to go with. I agree that the whole hybrid thing is boring because Kubo has used that before (arrancars) but I would like to know more about the Quincys and if he can again pull that idea off, then he'll be safe.

I'm guessing those were also Quincys that wanted to declare war to Yamamoto? Mhmm... interesting I guess, I can see that happening.

Oh well it's only early days, I hope more happens and it gets better!

I would like to see more of that tension between Ichigo & SS instead...

I might agree upon Ivan and/or the masked guys at the end of the chapter being those old Quincys of the legend, those "magic hunters" who taught Ishida's ancestors their techniques; it is a very fascinating theory indeed.
But, since it's a well known fact that Quincys kill Hollows whereas Shinigamis don't, considering that the Soul King (so the RG) approved Soul Society's way of dealing with Hollows and that this way hasn't changed in this last period (let's say, at least since Ichigo first met Rukia), I don't see how these old Quincys could be from the RG or work for the SK.
I'm even less persuaded about this when I think that SK represents order and balance in the Universe: it wouldn't make any sense that he was siding with people destroying souls, even if Hollow's souls.

Thats what is interesting: WE ASSUME, that Ivan IS part of the same group that did all that stuff or who approached Yamaji in the end. What if he is not? Maybe he is former or renegade RG, coming to warn them? Or some friend of Ryuuken's ?

What if the person who approached Hyori and vaizards who did NOT rejoin SS was someone else?

Also what is happening in SS and HM seems awfully like a purge for me. As if RG is cleaning up the place, to reset it all so to say - clean up those pesky liberals, build SS from the ground up

Notice how they hit exactly TWO places that Ichigo has changed with his actions? Halibel and Nel are in control of HM(with mayuri having labs there too) thanks to Ichigo and SS is changing thanks to Ichigo too.

Also what is interesting is that they are masked - which connects nicely with Ikaku's implication that those civilians were gathered by "their own" - what if "Royal Guards" blend in into the SS existing there and monitoring stuff? They would need masks to protect their real identities then.

That would fit with Aizen calling Urahara "SK's agent" (or something like that) also it would have a huge shock potential of revealing some important existing characters as villains.

Because its technically NOT a hybrid.

If I were a muslim and converted into christianity, would that make me muslim/christian hybrid?

It depends how it is handled - does one "learning" quincy teachings replace his powers with that or do they merge them into one?

Overriding would make sense and explain why Ivan claims to NOT be an arrancar or hollow.

Thats why Royal Guards have not been seen in SS nor anything else till now, I bet.

Think of it? What would make sense to have as your personal troops and protection? Something that balances? Or something that eradicates?

The problems with Quincies were not that their powers could do that. The problem was that they WERE doing that and even now there's a lot of things shady about their massacre, upon which, I hope, Kubo will touch upon

Also Soul King? Well, there is that fact that even a fraction of truth about the nature of "its" existence turned Aizen into raving lunatic rebelling against entire world. Not to mention something also made Ginjou get hunted.

Kubo did say that he is saving important puzzle pieces for the last arc so I would not be surprise if some of these gaps would get filled in now.

Well he did not want that.

From what little we do know of Aizen's backstory is that he was a genius, not that unlike Ichigo, in terms of shinigami arts and progress and happened to see Soul King or something about him somehow, which led to his crusade of trying to end Soul King, any means necessary,

One of the main problem here is that people think that Shinigami, Quincy and Fullbringer are differents races when they are not.

Shinigami is as much of a teaching as Quincy is. Potent soul that end up in rukongai attend to the shinigami school and are raised as such, they also had the potential of being quincy but since the shinigami are monopolysing the strong souls with the way their established system work most if not all of them end up becomming Shinigami.

There is nothing wrong with a Quincy being able to learn Shinigami art and even get a zanpakutou and there would be nothing wrong with a Shinigami learning Quincy art. That is to say the same of fullbring.
The reason why Shinigami does not learn/despise Quincy art is because these go against their belief. Shinigami cleanse soul, they do not kill and do not have any wish to (Some exception may apply but I talk in a general basis).
Because of that Quincy were hated by SS and killed at sight for going against SS's ideal. Quincy couldn't get into SS and Shinigami wouldn't befriend them thus resulting in no Quincy being teached Shinigami art/lent a zanpakutou but this don't mean in any case that Quincy couldn't use one.

You see Shinigami are pretty much self centered and like to make themselve the center of the world when they are not. Shinigami power is just a potent source of power that can be used for anything else for that matter.

I'm pretty much sure that this will end up with these magic hunter being the source of shinigami's, quincy's and fullbring's power which were slowly separated through age.
Shinigami teaching is to cleanse the souls
Quincy teaching is to destroy the souls
Fullbring teaching is to use the souls.
It would be pretty much normal for the RG to be master in these three arts, basically being people that have total control over one's existence.

Aren't Quincy a variation of Fullbringer? Ginjo could change his cross into sword and Ishida can make spirit bow from his cross. If Ginjo power came from Hollow then Quincy could also originate from the same place.

I got some idea going in my head but it's harder and harder to form into something that would make sense.

@Maddo_scientisto
So in a way living person spiritually aware might gain the Quincy "Power"? He could also become fullbringer if he was affected by hollow reiatsu while still in his mother womb?

Once he dies and is left alone he can become hollow then enter hueco mundo and if all conditions are met he might end as high level hollow with unique personality. His soul could also be consumed by hollow before he turns into one and he would still emerge as dominant personality later in evolution chain.

If treated by Shinigami and sent to Soul Society he could be found in Rukongai (like Hitsugaya was by Matsumoto) and join Shinigami Academy. He could join them also as Rukia and Renji did - cause they could for some reason or another.

So in the end all starts from Strong Soul (dead or alive) that has potential.

Like I said there are three teaching that are very influencial in the bleachverse:
Shinigami teaching are to cleanse the soul
Quincy teaching are to destroy the soul
Fullbringer teaching are to uses the soul.

Ishida does not takes the soul out of his cross when he uses it, it's a weapon created by Quincy just likes Zanpakutou are weapon created with Shinigami's teaching in mind.
Still it is possible that every teaching borrow a bit of the two others because in the end they form a whole which all end up with 'controlling soul's existence'.

Yes clothes designed with purpose of hiding one's identity and to NOT tad out in groups look to be designed as intentionally bland and uniform-ish. What a surprise.

Its nice, formal, russian-esque, armenian-esque attire with the purpose of looking same.

I guess to the generic readers of shonen crowds, formal groups who have intention of masking their identities should dress as flashy as possible.

Good chapter, well we definitely know that guy's a Quincy, I'm hoping it's not some hybrid hollow type Quincy, I think that would just be wrong but so far that's what its looking like,

As for the size of that guys bow, it was pretty huge rofl. Well this guy is not an enemy to Ichigo to be exact, but of course Ichigo going to end up fighting.

As for that group going to Capt Commander and declaring war, how did they even get that far in with out anyone noticing them lol.

The disappearance of people in Rukongai, still unsure what happened there, and we never go to see that *mouth thing" again.

But still Bleach should get better :)

What was the talk about "not opening the gate of hell"?
There are still some arrancars in hell aren't they? And that hell-guy shuren?
Didn't they want to use Ichigo to open the gate of hell? Maybe they're appearing again someday...
And about that necklace... ginjo had the same...
Where the hell is gin? is he even still alive?

and the MOST important thing: anyone ever saw Kon again? :D he just vanished :D

Yes because the strongest people being the strongest is so illogical.

Shinigami is a teaching and it is the teaching to cleanse souls. Soul society is about one thousand year old, shinigami didn't exist long before that, all there was were souls.

I'll say straight what I think from now on.
Before SS creation the most powerfull fraction were the souls that hold the most spiritual awareness, basically the people we knows as the royal guard.

Because of their power, normal souls tried to immitate them but they were soon divised into three teaching: The teacher to cleanse a soul, the teaching to kill a soul and the teaching to control a soul.
Shinigami(The teaching to cleanse) and Quincy(The teaching to kill) were probably in an opposition to the Fullbring (The teaching to use a soul) which leaded to the eradication of the fullbringers.
It is easy to see how people that both seek soul not to make trouble would go against those that could use these soul for bad purpose.
With time the Shinigami teaching became the biggest out of the two remaining, the SS was formed and they started to disagree with the Quincy teaching which leaded to the eradication of this teaching.

My point is that we should expect the Royal guard to be able to master these three teaching and even more since all power we know so far is probably an immitation and a variation of them.
Royal guard have been there before SS was created, they were there before Shinigami, Quincy and fullbring teaching were created.
Nobody should be able to stand a chance against them, not even Ichigo now and I'm pretty much sure the reason he will be able to will be because of the secret of his birth.

"not opening the gate of hell"? Are you talking about this special chapter
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=273335
. If you are then it was just a filler ad for latest Bleach movie.
http://myanimelist.net/anime/8247/Bleach:_Jigokuhen

And I was wondering about Kon too, surprised I haven't seen him in Urahara's shop. Instead, we're getting two new characters that feel a bit too much like replacements for both Rukia and Kon...

-Ivan is against the black-masks... I do believe that.
-Behind the black-masks we'll see some familiar faces... very interesting theory, I'm willing to buy that.
-The black-masks are currently working FOR the Sprit King... can't grasp that idea simply because of the Tearing. Destroying Mayuri's effort to uphold a barrier and upsetting the balance of souls just doesn't feel like something the Spirit King would want.

I'm still waiting for lots of answers.

I swear, at least give me one answer the next 2 or 3 chapters... please...
"not opening the gate of hell"? Are you talking about this special chapter
[url=http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=273335]http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=273335
. If you are then it was just a filler ad for latest Bleach movie.

And I was wondering about Kon too, surprised I haven't seen him in Urahara's shop. Instead, we're getting two new characters that feel a bit too much like replacements for both Rukia and Kon...

You are assuming the black mask are the one upsetting the balance of souls.

In both case this can be justified anyway.

If they are the one that upsetted the balance on Spirit king's order it is because he is thinking that lately SS has become to conceited for it's own good.
Spirit king has been alive much much much longer than SS, SS era is just a blink of eye to him and he probably saw many federation alike to it and he probably crushed as much when they started to get too independant from him.

SS is becoming more and more liberal by the day and their reach is only getting further, it's not an exageration to say that they might be a potent problem in the future to deal with so destroying this system now could be a very probable decision.

If they aren't the one that upsetted the balance then they are probably looking for the ones that did (Aka Ivan's group in this case). It is possible that these black masked person approached Yamamoto with no intention of fighting. Order from higher must be given by someone and it may be possible that they are here to use SS's power for finding the group that upset the balance.

That's what I like about this chapter, things aren't clear, no side is either black or white yet and the story could go everyway from now on.

And about that necklace... ginjo had the same...

THIS.
I was thinking how to tie all the pieces together with the information that we currently possess... I thought up a few theories (but I will keep them to myself as some of them are really far fetched) as well as noticed few things.

Fullbringer arc. didn't really seem related to anything that has happened till now, aside for Ichigo restoring his powers and Shinigami Representative business. Ginjo seemed like a villain without a purpose, the whole business of stealing Ichigo's fullbring wasn't explained, nor was his own fullbring (even though everyone else's was detailed).

Seeing how Ginjo's fullbring comes from his cross necklace, and now seeing Ivan whipping out something similar, I'm starting to think that Fullbring Arc will have some heavy ties with the current one. Perhaps we know nothing about Ginjo yet because he is an important piece of the puzzle that the next arc (and whole series) is.

I found out just before reading this chapter that Bleach is ending and that this arc isn't going to be animated. In long-running shows like this, I usually read the manga in anticipation (so to speak) of when it'll be animated and I can see the awesome fight scenes. I'll probably lose a lot of interest now :/

But, besides that... Emotionally, for me, I can't believe Bleach is ending. Honestly, Bleach wasn't something I LOVED LOVED, like Naruto, but I did enjoy the SS Arc so much. And I even cried when the last arc started in the manga, even though that could last for who knows how long. But to hear that the show I've loved and embraced since I was young is going to go away in a little over a month, I was a bit devastated to tell the truth. I don't know what to think, so I won't and I'll just accept it.

But yeah. March 27 will not be a happy day for me.

Besides THAT, manga chapter was honestly intriguing. I was surprised, in a good way, of the reintroduction of the quincies. Probably a lot more on Ishida and his father's past too. It'll be cool :)

I'm hoping that it'll be animated in an OVA or even another short series at a later time :D

Yes, I am making an assumption. A big one. But they never said "We're here to take charge of Soul Society", they said "We're here to declare war, ON YOU".

Even if Yamamoto is a person who wouldn't give up control very easily, trying to kill any of the 13 captains during a situation like that makes the assumption pretty believable, that they want the Tearing and the Disapperences to continue unobstructed.

And if Ivan's group is behind it, it would mean that there's probably yet another Ginjo/Aizen type betrayal coming up. I'm not going to say the the chances of that are zero, but it does seem played out... let's see what he has to say first.

Still very sceptical to the idea that Spirit King cleans up and rebuilds by doing something that drastic... I'd like to see how Urahara reacts to this, if he truly is a fanatic SK follower then the Spirit King's stand on the situation might be shown in Urahara's actions (anotger assumption I know, but there isn't much else that can be offered this early in the arc).

Another great shonen anime, Gintama, also ended in March... only to get a sequel next year in April. I'm expecting something similar for Bleach, with a movie or two in the middle.

They will just pull a Shippuuden, I'm sure of it. If what Kubo said about Bleach is true (that it's halfway through) then the number of eps would exceed 500... it's neater to make a new series dedicated only to that one arc, with improved animation and what not.

Now I began to think on would Ishida join the quincy side and why would he if he did.

What if Quincy Massacre happened because of Ichigo?

I am beginning to think that Ichigo is SS version of Kwisatz Haderach – some secret project of SS with intent of toppling Soul King or something similar. That would be right in the line with them declaring war upon SS and would even explain why Quincies got exterminated(if quincies were loyal to King and got their hands upon the info). Quincies might have been purged litteraly to cover up the fact of such plans existing.

It would also explain why Aizen “knew Ichigo since he was born” as well as why Ukitake and Shunsui talked that way about “Ichigo having grown up” as if they have known him for a while.

It would also explain what Ishida's grandpa said in the flashback about that "When ishida finds out the truth he will have to decide on if he wants to protect what his father wants to protect".

That would certainly shake up Ishida.

Hmm, interesting theory. I wouldn't mind if that was true. We will have to wait and see what happens :d

It's been implied a lot so far that Ichigo's birth has something to do with SS and it would also explain why Aizen helped Ichigo get as strong as he is now. He probably thought that if he could defeat 'the one made to be stronger than Soul king' at full strenght then he would be able to defeat the SK for sure. Ichigo was but a measuring tape in his plan.

An alternative version of your theory:

Soul society is allied with SK while Quincy opposed him.
Ichigo was made with the intention of becoming a royal guard (or food) for SK. Because of them being against the SK, and thus SS, the Quincy were exterminated.
But now SS started to get away from SK's grasp and their 'gift' to him start to become a double edged sword.

I don't think that Ichigo is prophetied to be a hero born to win but rather an ultimate sacrifice which would explain why Isshin escaped with him when he was a baby.
Maybe the SK is but a soul and Ichigo was planned to be it's container or something similar.

So the Aizen #5 (or so) is actually a hollow/quincy. All that bleach needs is another kind of supernaturals. Although to be fair wasn't really expecting another hybrid. How many combinations are there left ??

I must admit my interest has been piqued again. I'll just forget the fullbring rubbish ever happened because a shinigami vs. quincy all out war certainly sounds like a fitting finale.

Yeah, My understanding is too that Aizen's masterplan was just to out-evolve whatever Soul King might present as a threat to him.

I am pretty much convinced that the ones declaring the war are Royal Guards, now.

The way they adresed Yamamoto (especially the -dono suffix) is a very strict, formal way of speaking in present times pretty much only used to greet royalty of equal or a bit lower standing than you.

It implies that the messengers count themselves as equal to Yamamoto, but still present it in very tactful and formal way.

Don't you think that this hibrid-guy can be Mayuri's creation? The captain researched both Quincy(in the past) and Arrancars(after Aizen defeat, when he found Aizen's lab).

Dunno, but I hope we finally find out what was inside Szayel's lab. I believe it was said by Kubo to be really important to the story, and we still didn't find out why, it's high time now.

"We came to declare war on you."
Well, that's one way to do it, I suppose...not very tactical though...

An Arrancar Quincy? ZOMG, you know what this means?!? Ishida will finally get his level-up!
