sounded like it wasn't part of the union, i'd think that would be more than enough reason for them to attack. at least from the way that the union has been described up to now.

International standar WOOT!
I wonder where is this El-Tanika exactly, If I heard correctly is somewhere near the Amazon River, so it's most likely in brazil considering their skin color but not sure. Good episode anyway.

I can't believe these guys did Code Geass. This work is leaps and bounds better. The south american taking the butter was great. The detail ;\ Then again, I suppose they didn't write the story either....

But yeah I think this is the point that the show starts being a 10, I'm at like 19 now and I probably wont dock it down.

Suddenly, Planetes has become on hell of an anime. The last two or so episodes have just been... profound.

Astro-drum multi functional to the debris section hehe
I don't understand the war on El-Tanika.. I just knew how important the big space suit's to them
and I think 26 episode is very short.. like I said.. this genre's new and for real.. they should make a lot of fillers

funny you say that, since episode 10 I've been thinking whether to give it 8 or 9, then I had that same exact thought :), this is one of those amazing shows that get better as you watch ..

Poor El Tanikian.

I don't know if I'm correct in drawing parallels between their problem with the INTO to current goings on with international intervention in places this Serbia/Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan etc etc etc.

As much as it pisses me off Politics > Science. You can work on a project for 20 years and it can be destroyed in a fleeting moment because someone signed a piece of paper sending loads of tanks your way. It's like the deputy director said. It's different times, without money and political clout, you get swallowed up.

Man, this show improved so much in the last 2 episodes.

The borders speech is beautiful, and something that should be held in mind by those in power more often. Really, from above, everything we know and do is totally insignificant. It's a sobering thought.

I'm really enjoying this anime. The episodic structure is very fitting for the kind of closed off environment they're in.Seeing the diverse amount of people represented and actually addressing it also something unique. The last few episodes have been simple but powerful.

So I am guessing at this point that Hachi might unconsciously like Tanabe . . . Although guessing he will be too stubborn to admit this fact for the next 10 episodes.

that was sad
there wasn't many people like Mr. Poitier

now I'm really think about my country
we got this genius man who made something that no one ever do before, sadly the government give him a half-hearted support. Then he offered something bigger, a better offer from a first-world country, inviting him to become their citizen (that means he must lose our country citizenship, since we does not recognize dual citizenship).

and incredibly he refused it.

Damn, that ending... Life is so unfair. Strong rules the weaker and history is written by the winners. In that context, a poor country can never recover itself. It will always be torn apart, mostly by its own people and instability. It's in those moment that I feel truly blessed to be born in Canada, where I will never have to feel like my life is on the line 24h/24.

It look like next episode dwelve whether with war or terrorism. Judging by the guy look, I'd say it's probably more terrorism.

Haha, love beam. T'was cute. Ai is a cutie.

For some reason this episode didn't keep me interested the whole time. I don't know why. But the end of this episode was really good.

Tanabe wants to go on a date with some guy, who used to have a name but i forgot. Sadly she can't keep her promise because test schedules conflict with the time of the date. The first spacesuit from country El Tamago (or something like that?) will be tested.

From space all of the earth looks like in unity with no visible borders. But humans on earth keep fighting in wars.

I really enjoyed this episode from start to finish.

Really liked the El Tenikan guy, he seemed like a very sincere and enthusiastic/motivated guy from the onset. Glad that he and Claire were able to see eye to eye with one another at the very end (I don't care too much for Claire, but this was a good episode for her). I guess Fee won't be getting one of those suits for smoking though, by the sounds of it (poor Fee).

Meanwhile...Ai's friend seems like a good friend, giving her good advice about Hachi, except for all the wrong reasons, that conniving and manipulative jerk...but at least it's for the best. I don't think very many people ship Ai with anyone other than Hachi. As for Hachi, I wonder whether he was trying to help out Claire or if maybe he was jealous of Ai's date...or both?

This is the episode that had more impact on me so far.
As an immigrant from a third world South American country now living in the US, the words that the man said to Claire in the last scene hit me hard.
I'm loving this series.

Another great episode! This time we learned more about Claire, she comes from a really poor country affected by war, and politics; she couldn't even read or write when she was 8, but her family managed to move, and now she is part of the 'elite' of an important place. Then there's a man from the same country, who just like her, was able to study, and have a good life elsewhere, but when he felt prepared he returned to the poor country, and, together with the people there, he was able to follow his dream, and build a spacesuit.

I was rooting so much for him, it was so insufferable to see the way he was treated just because of where he came from, as if his work held no value. Claire was great, she did everything she could to the end to make it possible for him to have his spacesuit approved together with Hachimaki, and the others from the Debris Section, but the situation in his country took a turn for the worse, and he had to be taken in custody. It was a very poignant conclusion, you can't help but to feel that this man, and his team back in Earth got really close to achieving all of their dreams, but what Claire, and the others did was "enough" for him. That scene in which he said that: "Why? Why does it have to be this way? From up here, you can't see any borders... All you can see is the Earth..." was the coup de grâce, I can't.

Now to the romantic side: in the end Tanabe, and the pilot didn't go in a date because of this whole situation. Hachimaki talks of Tanabe as if she wasn't worth of love though, going out of his to say that "I don't know what you see in her", and stuff, I hope he will change his attitude soon, as it stands the pilot is the best match for her.

Excellent episode, and an episode that showed a lot of heart and grit with a powerful ending too. It may just be a spacesuit but for El-Tanica, it was a symbol in a way that even people like them in really tough situations due to how poor the country are have hope to dream and accomplish big things in the future.

Took me too long to realize that INTO stands for NATO xD

Sky's or rather space's the limit is more of a platitude in this world where even space is in hand of the super powers. Being born in the right country is a privilege. But Poitier's intelligence, dedication and ambition that defied the status quo were truly inspiring. What a strong character for an episodic story. I had to fight the tears from the moment when their first spacesuit met the international standards. The gamble has somewhat paid off and this little success gave hope for the future. The present is still full of injustice. The scene where Poitier looked down on earth was
brutally beautiful. Sad note to end the episode on. At the very least El Tanika was able to reclaim it's pride thanks his sacrifice. Based way to go out. I appreciated the character development for Claire as well in this context. Perhaps this experience is going to change her attitude towards Debris Section and Hachi.

Great episode overall. Loved the themes in particular.

That clumsy spacesuit meets regulations? I'm surprised. It doesn't look any more space-worthy than a Go-Kart is street legal.
