Another cool demo battle for a luxury liner courtesy of the Bentemaru. Seems like Marika is having trouble balancing the demands of being captain with being a student, though. That should lead to some interesting problems further down the line.

Stowaway has snuck onto the ship... and it's a princess?

It's good to see that Marika is still intending to graduate and not to drop out of school.
Unlike Chiaki I think I understood what Mami wanted to express with her mountain analogy. Marika doesn't want to get outshined by her mother and want to show that she is something special on her own and doesn't need to rely on others to be respected.

This time the mission was a bit more complex as they had to deliver a battle for the audience. It will be interesting to see what the stowaway wants from Marika.

I think this show is a bit half-asses really. Loved the whole pirate in space idea, but being paid to troll around in space with permission isn't really any fun to watch. Unless something deeper starts, this show will fall.

From 9/10 to 7/10

3/5 for the episode.

This episode was a little more boring than the others, but it definitely had a point. It introduced the stowaway, who will (hopefully) play a big part. I mean, we still have like 19 episodes left. Plenty of room for good plot.

I guess the next episode is about a spoiled girl who due to her protective parents never went out on adventure before and thus wants to become a pirate to discover space.

I'm a little disappointed to see it pretty much confirmed that the battles are staged/planned in advance. Though, I still don't think they're completely staged, since they're still using electronic warfare (which wouldn't be needed in a staged battle) and Misa did say an attack is still an attack and they can't let their guard down, so I'm asuming they're still shooting at each other with real weapons. But still, I wouldn't really call them "pirates" if this is all they do. They're more like pirate cosplayers than actual pirates. But I'm still loving the show though.

This Universe is filled with some weird people who pay to be boarded by privateer ships :P
but since in RL people are also doing weird stuff I can buy this - just a bit advanced form of rich people insanity. Plus good opportunity to both make money and train new captain without risk of being send into vacum (which is not a pleasant thing for crew I suppose).

Well I liked to see some background on why Marika is behaving in her way.

but still very good series and will look forward to next episode

Finally, not as slow-paced as always episode. Interesting all the way even, i fully enjoyed it and claim to be the best so far. I just wonder why did Marika get a makeup that'd rather fit a hooker than a pirate captain though.

Also the hell is Lubumbashi and why is umeboshi translated to as such? And "tokay"? WTF CR?

I'm just not feeling this anime... too cutesie. Really??? Pirates reduced to doing performances and robbing rich cruise ships? >.>

Dropping it for now. Even though it doesn't do panty shots and other fan service (thank god), it's still far too cute for my taste...

I'm really enjoying the show so far. The way pirates are portrayed is quite intriguing, as it is not anywhere near the way we think of them. But that doesn't mean that the story won't get serious later on. In fact, there's a ton of foreshadowing in this episode, and the next may be the start of something big.

really fun episode - i wish they had more of mami's character in this as i love the seiyuu that plays her, chiaki omigawa (she's amazing as maka in soul eater) - speaking of the fictional chiaki on this show, she is so kawaii, especially her insistence on leaving off the -chan!

People should seriously learn to not pin their expectations solely on the title. Just because it has the word pirates in it does not mean that the show SHOULD have massive swordfights, gunplays and deaths, like I see many people complaining that this series lacks.

Seriously, you guys all scream and label every single anime as "generic", so when this anime displays piracy in a different NON-GENERIC fashion, you complain? The hell.

Okay I get the fact that its more of a performance for them however its still cool that there is a high factor of risk while doing the job at hand. I like how this story is turning out so far and stowaway princess on board what could she possibly want(to be a pirate too?). This was an enjoyable episode we got to see some Mami air time with Chiaki.
I still watch the OP and ED for this show that just how great the songs are and i rarely watch the OP and ED of shows I love this anime they do alot of stuff right.

I haven't read the source material (Manga or LN) so I'm going strictly on intuition, but my feeling is that the princess is more likely to be Leia than spoiled rich kid running away to be a pirate...(actually I'm also going on the title of the next episode as well).

Keep in mind that these folks are privateers, not pirates. Ultimately they are auxilliary naval units driven by a strong profit motive. As privateers they are able to keep more of the value of the ships they capture when the ships are sold in prize court. That's where the big money is, not in relieving rich passengers of their pocket change and baubles. (Note that the crown--or whatever form of government issues the letters of marque--will still claim a share of the prize money as a form of taxation.) It looks like the long peace might be coming to an end, and the Bentenmaru will return to its original purpose.

Another most amazing episode although I got totally trolled by that fight whom was only a figment imagination of Marika. Good thing cause I though she would die.

I cannot fathom enough that I face-palmed at how immature the progress level adjustment was of Marika. I mean “I don’t want to brutalize them?” OH COME ON MARIKA! Get with the program already you are a pirate and must act like one. Get used to it fast and worst of all don’t act like a baby during a fight. Heck the beams almost got the Bentenmaru. What really bugged me of Marika is the following,

And here. OMG please do not wear any make up at all Marika! Please just NO! Do not want!
She looks sexy but to me in a slutty way and I don’t like that. Moreover I know better that makeup before 18 = skin damage for the most. So when I think of Marika with no makeup in the spoiler
I feel far better. Marika looks better with no make up and it should stay that way. I did dig the make up remover it looks useful.

The Bentenmaru firing its cannons and in general its appearance in the spoiler
was totally drooling! I loved it! Crisp details! Nice shots! The cannons are King. They look nice orb typical. The way the shots were shown fired on the guards was nicely shown too.

Totally adored Mami/Chiaki in the spoiler
both characters had nice expression while interacting. Mainly Mami with her ice cream and Chiaki with her expressions. Her denial of liking and waiting to see Marika gave out some form of Yuri vibes but that’s cool cause I am OK with Marika x Chiaki plus you see them in the OP really close by. At best they will become very close friends more than average. I can see good friendship between Chiaki and Mami.

About the preview, OMG the new loli in the following,

Is super adorable. I want to get her Kingdom considering she is royalty. In any case I can’t wait to see her next episode since she is part of the OP she will play a vital role. While it’s interesting that the ship can show nicely infrared and even height/weight of the object. From the looks of here she will be going to the same school as Marika and Misa seems primed up here. Can’t wait to see her go more wild. This shall be fun because now her Kingdom can take this shit as a offence and make war. That can be good for this show. We can be immersed into a war for the whole season with a resolve at the end.

Plenty of deaths await with action and drama should it happen. Sounds nice for this show. Don’t know how much blood realism there shall be but sounds mild to me so far. Might edit later if time allows.

Marika with a blaster is good but makeup no. Ririka looks good too there along with some Chiaki.

This one went a long way in showing just how bad the premise of the series actually is.

So, as suspected, the whole thing with robbing a ship is just one big show. That really make them performers with really dangerous props rather then actual Pirates, doesn't it? Setting aside why the private sector would even put up with this, the insurance companies in particular, you still have to wonder how all this actually benefits the government.

It's not like the haul they'd be getting from these ships would really help the bloated economy of a planet/system. Can't even call something like that a drop in the bucket and the political implications would have to be a problem.

There's still the whole high school, hereditary chosen captain thing as well.

Well, whatever. Despite everything it's still managing to keep it's head above water (mainly because I like the setting) so will stick with it, at least for now.

Bah I've had it with this ridiculous boring drivel >.<

Feels like the show have become ever so more slightly disappointing with each episode but still managed to maintain a small level of promise due to the great idea of "Space Pirates" , was somewhat expecting an anime version of Firefly but clearly that bar was set way to high^^

Can't be arsed to continue watching this and continuously get more annoyed each time.

Seems like the job wasn't a raid on a luxury liner but a escort of a young girl.
The attack was a bit odd as well the as mentioned in the episode as well still i have to say that there way of fighting is very peaceful.
I wonder what the little stowaway will bring to the story.

And Marika should not be wearing makeup like that it looked very bad.

Probably the first time I was not satisfied with the pacing, but I'm sure it's because they have ended the episode at such a crucial time, I want more so badly...

I hope we will get real fights, these staged ones have the potential to become boring. I'm interested in the role the princess will play. Marika needs to have those boxes moved, quite the hassle to go through all of those aerobic exercises. 4/5.

I guess the point of this mission was to get her on board for some reason. The "extra" space battle seems to have been there just so they could disrupt Bentenmaru's security systems enough to let the princess sneak inside the ship. The preview suggests this will lead to some international conflict drama but I don't trust those anymore with this show.

I agree with the point that if this show doesn't start getting any serious soon enough, it'll start getting tedious and boring to watch.

This episode was pretty boring, next one looks to be promising as it seems that the plot will finally get moving.

Ohhh now I see how the pirates work, they just accept hires and missions. Then they put on a show or do whatever they're told to do. Looks like this one is more than just a show for the luxury cruiser huh... A princess ended up sneaking on board. :o I wanna think this is going to be serious, but I doubt it. This is still enjoyable I guess, and I've still got hope they're going into more legit problems later on.

Marika's makeup, can't help but just laugh.

Not a Hater, just I looked at this show and saw what it was and then looked at how people are reacting to this show.

Want a good Space Pirate Show? Captain Harlock [Especially Endless Odyssey]
Want a Good Space Anime? Planetes [Which to this day is the most realistic Space Anime.]
Want a Good and Fun Pirate Anime? One Piece
Want a Sci-Fi Opera? Terra e..., Crest of the Stars + Banner of the Stars 1 and 2 and 3., Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
This show is just cute girls pretending to be Pirates. And at that, the Cast is generic at best. Just an average Moe Show just set in Space.

Same here. I just completely mis-understood the intent of the show -- I really was hoping for it to be a good hard sci-fi space warfare show -- and I let myself get carried away in discussions and disagreeing with people about it. I'm annoyed at myself for doing so. At least the discussions were very reasonable.

Same here, again. There are many things I like about the show, I just was really floored when I had it beat into me that they are basically entertainers and not actually engaged in low intensity undeclared warfare with their neighbors.

Oh, when Chiaki was on the phone talking to her dad, that picture of the person she was talking to - that looked a lot like Marika's dad...?

Yeah, I was also a little dissapointed to find out they were basically pirate cosplayers. On the other hand, like I mentioned back on page 1, they're still using electronic warfare to take over their target and the ships are firing real weapons at each other (hence Misa's "an attack is still an attack") so maybe/hopefully there's more to it than just staged entertainment.

or that those attacks are more staged than rest of their job - after all with not so experienced captain it would be foolish to go into real battle where they could indeed die
they have weapons able to damage other ships - as it was already shown.
