So, I've finally completed the series as intended, out of order; however, I wanna know if I'll ruin the series by watching it over in order. Will it have the same impact or will it fall short & crush what I've come to expect of the series? I was curious because I'm not sure if the occurrences that happened in episode six would feel appropriate in their rightful spot, it might seem rushed or cluttered. Just curious on what others thought~

if you watch it in order you'll probably notice some things that you probably didn't noticed the first time around and why it happened. KyoAni did a good job with having a lot of little details and stuff. So if you watched it in order it will make more sense in why some things happened, while a few others you'll need to read the novels to understand why.

One of the reasons Haruhi Suzumiya was shuffled was probably to encourage rewatch, so definitely go for a proper order viewing.

@ wildebeest: Was it really? I thought the reason would be explained in the next season.. o_O

Well, I've watched it both anachronically and chronologically, and both times were as great as expected from Haruhi Suzumiya. >w<

since that post i've read an article somewhere...can't find it anymore...that the shuffling is somehow supposed to recreate the feel of the novels. i didn't read the novels so i'm not sure how it works.

I thought the reason for it being out of order was to give the viewer certain information ahead of time, to give the user a certain perspective that couldn't easlily be obtained if one were to just watch them chronologically.

Like what Quentin Tarantino does with his movies (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill)

I always thought that they way it was presented was one of the most interesting aspects of the anime.

I was just making sure because I was assuming that as a story character development would be too fast if watched in order. I assumed something would be lacking, but I'll try it and see which I like better.

i watched it in order first. I tried watching it in the out of order way, but it confused the heck out of me. I think i'll go back tho and watch it in the out of order way tho.

I enjoyed it much better in chronological order. (The mixed up order)

For me it just helped me get a better grasp on what was going on in the series. Especially because I had never read the novels before seeing the anime. I went back and rewatched it in episodic order and thought it was equally as good. I'll definitely agree with the quinten terrantino analogy.

I think you've got it all wrong.

It's because the 2nd season is still in progress, and you can't let the anime just end at "Someday in the rain". That wouldn't make sense.

So that's why they kept the "big final" at the end, namely Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu VI .

Its really better in its proper order (ep 02, 03, 05 like that) cause as faust said, you notice things you didn't before, seeing it 3 times I believe (twice in its proper order) totally makes things clearer then the way it was released, but when it was being release its random order kinda made me more interested because the question (like in ep 00) why the hell are they doing this was always around then and they were always talking about haruhi as if she was a god then we find out she pretty much is. So both had advantages but like proper order since it makes more sense

I didn't like this original mixed up order :/ I should've watched them chronologically.
What is this novel thing? Is it anything worth reading? Is it available in english?

The novels are so gold. But what else can you expect, with Kyon narrating? Not to mention, episode 00 is hilarious after you read a certain part ^^

I read the novels on this site:

I just got the DVD. Well, the first volume that is & i couldn`t really change the order i wanted it in because one, IT AUTOMATICALLY STARTED TEH NEXT EPISODE & two, i didn't have all the episodes with me to begin with.

But i watched the extras with the previews in japanese. and now i finally get how Kyon or Haruhi tells you what episode to go to. -_-

Anyway, I watched them in chrono (skipped the first). I guess I sort of regret it but not enough to watch it again.

Okay so um,...help lol...Okay I decided to buy the complete collection the other day and I want to start watching. I just want to move onto volume two but tell me what's the proper order one should watch this series in? I know watching it in order isn't as good as watching it out of order.

It does? I have never used them myself. Just watched in the order Haruhi told me to. That's the right way if you wanna watch it with the right plot...

animesuki then?

If that doesn't satisfy you just google it until you find an order you would like to watch it in...

Well, the last episode is the last one in which order you're watching it. Just think about that it'll be weird when a few characters pop out of nowhere as main characters withouth having had a proper intruduction. But you'll understand when you come to the right episode xD

I wonder why so many people think the chrono order is better. Aren't you clever enough to understand it if you don't watch it the proper way? Maybe it was made to be confusing and interesting, instead of predictable and easy to understand.

I got shocked when the episodes in MAL was not ordered. The ones I watched started with Melancholy until part 6, then went on the other episodes.

Oh. I just noticed that they chose broadcast order for the anime page. That's quite something. I never realized that MAL's new episode list feature would have implications like this.
