if anyone had the privilege of reading the Washington Post from 2003-2009, his reporting on the war in Iraq was...transcendent. he took you out of the press conferences of Generals and put you into the homes of regular people with all of their naked fears and humanity. it's so easy to just think of them as "the other side" but he reminded you they weren't, they were just like you, just pressed into this extraordinarily difficult situation. anyways, just thought he was worth mentioning. i'll miss his wonderful writing talent. as close to a poet as you'll find in a newspaper.

and now another great journalist, killed this time in Syria. not a great year for reporters

Our media reported a lot about Russia's election last weekend, there were even a non-stop news feed about the election on HS.fi ( = Helsingin Sanomat - the biggest newspaper in Finland)
