Then there is: Post-Rock, Shoegaze, Mathcore, Alternative Rock (some), Trip-Hop, Zeuhl, Noise & Noise Rock (some), Experimental Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Psytrance, j-pop, touhou music...

I believe mathcore is metal. A subgenre of Metalcore, being more experimental and technical.
Otherwise most of my music isn't metal ._. and it sounds very much like it, if not heavier.

I like very certain Jrock (the few that actually have good guitars and singers, kind of like Theatre Brook's song for Durarara), loads of experimental that generally also fall into metal category for their sound (Lye By Mistake, anyone? they're my obsession.), guitar solos such as the ones by Fernando Miyata...

I've been a pianist for quite long, too, so I enjoy some piano pieces from different anime (specially Clannad, beatiful music) and other relatively calm OST (Toradora's slow songs, Mushishi...). I also have to admit being a big fan of Les Luthiers, classic-ish musicians who are also comedians, unfortunately they're southamerican (I think) so they speak spanish, you'd have to find subs for them. I also ocassionally enjoy some punk, ranging from Refused to Rise Against, and some acoustic songs (see my "Acoustic songs" thread right in this club).

Depends much on the band I'd say. Some are closer to metal (like Between the Buried and Me) and then others are more in the vein of Hardcore Punk (like Converge).

Also hah what an old post I got here. These days I mostly listen to electronica and industrial music.

I'm also an open-minded metal listener. I kind of like chill out and electronic music.
Some example: Oi Va Voi, Klaxons, Röyksopp, Kenny G, some Jrock bands.
Also since I'm Turk, I like Turkish folk music and protest music, like: Ruhi Su, Sadık Gürbüz..etc.
Btw I like to listen non-metal guitar virtuoso, and related bands like Gipsy Kings..etc.

I mostly listen to metal. But also enjoys Hard Rock, Stoner Rock, and Blues a lot.
Deadmau5 is the only one I can listen to who isn't a movie/anime composer and the only one who don't play a live instrument.

Besides metal I usually listen to J-pop, J-rock, and recently some J-indie / electronic pop stuff.
But I like a lot of stuff! alternative rock, screamo, ambient, euro beat, catchy acoustics, instrumental eletronics, dubstep (sometimes), visual kei (hardly any good bands though), Mandarin pop (music where I'm from), rap and the crunk shit (usually at parties)

When I want to feel mellow (it's rare, but it happens) I listen to somber piano tunes that would fit right into a horror video game and dark ambient. Kevin MacLeod, Lustmord, Ahasverus and such.

P.S. "Close-minded" = "I know what I like, I know what I don't like, and I don't care if you disapprove." Nothing wrong with that! :)

Totally bro. But I don't listen to 'metal' I listen to sludge more than anything and vocaloid music is awesome, people should check out 'Blurry' the album by Gumi and Mayu. The guitar in that album is EPIC. And Miku2 with hatsune Miku if you haven't heard it, it's one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. By a guy called Kuruko I think? :s?
