Am I the only person who thinks most modern art looks like shit compared to the old? Seriously look you cant tell me pandora hearts has better art than Akira or Hokuto no ken.

Seriously look you can't tell me this random modern anime is better than these cherrypicked classics of the entire medium

I do have more problems with old anime than with old manga. I think some of the animations of old anime are just a bit too slow in my taste, and this bothers me when I watch such a series. I have tried Berserk, but I just had to quit after a while.

Reading the manga is less of problem, because you can decide your own pace and the arts do not really age as much as the animation. Even though all this, I mostly read new manga... I do not know why, I follow my interests and no old manga seems to pop up. What are real 'old-manga classics' that I should at least try?

cause its fucking impossible to find like 90% of the pre 1990 stuff translated, only the really popular well known shows from those times are possible to find, theres a good reason why alot of anime's from the 70's and 80's only have like 20 people putting it on their list

When anything "old" is mentioned it always seems to attract the elitists, and their opinions on how everything made nowadays is trash. Seeing a pompous buffoon touting that their favorites are far more impressive and their tastes are much more refined doesn't help draw in willing viewers/readers of older anime/manga.

How do you find that which does not exist? Enlighten me. A lot of anime go un-translated (in English), even some newer shows.

It works both ways. There's just as much people (from what I see on this site, more) who refuse to watch "older" shows because of art style/animation. The only difference is that those people can't be labeled as "elitists", but it doesn't make them any better/worse.

Sorry, I was only going off of one side of the conflict/argument because a lot of people had already posted about newer viewers disliking anything with an older art style. I fully agree with you though, a lot of people are going to keep missing out on good anime/manga if they keep those sort of opinions, same goes for the elitists. There's been good titles from all generations, but it all depends on personal taste, and that's very hard to change, so it's not worth trying to push an anime/manga onto a person if he/she is adamant about not wanting to watch/read it.

What about the ones that do exist? plenty of good old manga is translated.

That's true. But the person you quoted was specifically referring to those which are not translated.

Indeed, there are merits in both. I just don't think singling out the radicals of each side has any meaning, and that seems to always be the direction taken in these discussions.

It's the same with everything. Example; generations to come will have new book's to obsses over, Harry Potter will be old school.
Sometimes it's nice to be apart of things aswell as read them. Like it's more exciting being able to buy your favourite bands CD the day it's released then 50 years after.
But to me that sort of thing doesn't really matter. My favourite Manga was published in 1998.
Maybe I'm wrong :/

I think is because most of the fans are young. Maybe 14 or 15 and don't know old manga and anime.

People are close minded/intolerant & it's hard to find most of the time.
