Yeah they pretty much expanded it to fit this episode.
Which leaves me wondering how the last 3 episodes will proceed.
There's nothing left to animate if they're aiming this to end at the same place as the end of Vol2.
Let's just see I guess.

inb4 filler

I know everyone and their mother is going to be all "AWWW KAWAI CHIBI RIN!!!!!!!!!"

But really, this had almost nothing to do with F/Z. Felt more like a left out backstory episode of Stay night.

Filler? what a hell are you guys talking about?

It's common in fate/zero the development of the characters along the story, and now we can see another side of Tokiomi, one of the less explored characters so far. I don't care if we have Rin, just because she is a character of fate/stay night this is a filler to please fans? you got to be kidding..

Kariya and Ryunosuke show up too, and the episode has nothing to offer to you guys?

My only complain about the episode was the ending, which looks out of place, seeing tohsaka rin back to her ordinary day in school was unecessary, but I'm impressed by how far this episode could progress, Especially for those who read the novel, and saw many things that were created just for the anime adaption.

If you guys want to see fight scenes every episode, go watch some shounen, and stop trolling in this forum.

People aren't trolling but voicing what they feel is a rather slow and draggy episode which equates to a sort of filler.

Uh I dunno what you have been watchingl but this is NOT common in fate/zero. Sure development of characters is OKAY but not when it's dragged out across an entire episode. It's not about seeing fight scenes every other episode but seeing some sort of character development. Ryunosuke showing up offered nth since we already know how much of a perverse murderer he is and we knew from ep 1 about this side of tokiomi when he left his family. In fact the only important point this episode is the conversation between kariya and aoi, which should've taken only 5mins. People are right in saying that this is a fanservice episode for rin fans, coz it is.

Well this isn't technically filler since it was in the novel, but it can be considered it due to making a whole episode out of it. I enjoyed seeing this expanded on though, I hope they expand on Kiritsugu's past in the 2nd half as well That would be a very interesting episode if they dedicate a full one to it.

In a few words you said what i was thinking.

yes, probably I missed the point a few minutes ago,I apologise.

what i was trying to say in my previous post wasn't necessary about fillers , but the whole "this episode was pointless" thing.

thats because for now, The only thing that we know about tokiomi in the show is that he is "boring", that he married with the girl that Kariya love the most, and that he has friends with the church .

In other words , basically nothing. Without this "filler" the only character development for him would be in the end of the second season.

As I said, i'm not interested about RIn, but the other characters that showed up, and seeing more about tokiomi was a bonus, and coherent with the rest of the story.

So i do hope for more of this expanded episodes, especially because the story is in the right pace, we aren't losing anything yet.

Weakest episode.

They could have skipped this and not a single fuck will be missed.

Also, what is the point of creating a thread if you haven't watched it yet or any input to post?

Yeah this was the most boring episode and i actually kept skipping through the whole thing. If i want to see Rin i rather see the teenage one. LOL

Seems like Gamaliel cant take it when somebody calls a boring episode boring.

Well I liked the ep. Nice to have some stuff between tokiomi and rin. Super worms kariiya against starfish was great!

Well, maybe it was a bit long, I would have preferred an expanded version of lance flashback... and 1/3 less of rin's adventure...

but at least it had a happy ending... Good animation, and ambient music :)

QFT

I'm not a fan of Rin from the start, so this was actually boring for me. The only good part is when Kariya showed up.

Rin actually saving the kids didn't sit well, but really a big part due to it not being in the novel at all. Which i know kinda sucks, if I didn't previously read the novel i may not have found fault. I mean, for me at this point Fate/Zero is supposed to be a story of hopelessness and terror and Rin saving Kotone took a little from that. Her not finding Kotone in the novel felt like a stage setter for the terrible world of magic her life is gonna pass through. But as an episode besides that, it was great.

But next episode is gonna be the best, most epic piece of cinema fkng ever!

Opinions certainly depend if you have read the novel or not. Since I haven't, I can only base upon what I see in the anime plus the F/SN VN. With that said, Rin showed she was at a high level already at that age. It's no wonder she's an excellent magi when she grows up.

I actually did think that this was a filler, but it was an enjoyable one, nonetheless. It's probably because I really disliked Rin after Heavens' Feel, but thanks to this episode, I started to like her again.

Also, I really like that dialogue between Kariya and that woman who's supposed to be Rin's guardian at the time. Quite a sad scene, if you think about it and knows what happens in the future.

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

Maybe de BDs will give me more backstory of lancer/berserker/caster/assasin/archer/rider etc

I think they could of made this episode focus more on the father than Rin but it's good to see Rin nevertheless. A bit of a filler but good episode.

People perceive things differently. Some people might find this filler and I don't blame them since it does slightly deviate from the story however, as a whole series where Fate/zero is a prequel and Fate/Stay Night is a sequel, I think it's an interesting development to watch.People have to remember it's a "prequel". Not a stand alone series. Huge difference.

Every time I see Kariya, It makes me more depressed knowing that he's going to die. Even worse that he knows he's going to die.

Yeah, I was actually going to post a new thread about it. It would be interesting for them to make episodes based on the the servants especially Saber, Gilgamesh and Rider.Saber and Gilgamesh fate story has much more potential in my opinion. It would also be very good if they make episodes showing Emiya's past as well. Not sure if they actually do that in Fate/zero since I never got around finishing the light novel.

Meh episode.

They should have stick closer to the novels, instead of the adventures of Super Loli Rin saving the day (you know, what happened to have a horrible mental breakdown after finding out the remains of children that she had to suppress her memories from it as it DID happen).

Aoi, Tokiomi, Kariya and Kotomine saved this trash from 1/5, it's 3/5 thanks to them.

LOL best way to describe Aoi, nobody can tell she's a mother for being fucking terrible at her job.

Probably the weakest episode so far, but still good. I was kind of hoping it would have more of Tokiomi.

I was expecting Tokiomi to rescue Rin, which while a little bit on the deus ex machina (not exactly the phrase I"m looking for but it fits the general idea) side would have been a little more realistic.

Although one of lesser episodes, this was still a fairly good one. Rin was pretty powerful even at a young age.

Seeing Kariya made me pretty happy. So long we get to see Kariya and/or Iskander every few episodes, I am a happy guy! I would like to see more of Kariya's magic, though. That'll probably be more season two, though :(.

Well, I can't see the point of hating this episode becuase almost the whole episode it's about Rin.
There sure is a lot of Rin fan out there, that's probably they make it like this for the anime, so it must be fanservice.

I haven't read VN whatever it is, but I do like seeing Rin again and they show her past self.
After I have seen this anime so far, this episode feel kind of different from what happend in these past episodes, maybe we don't need a Rin at all but still I'm happy to see her again.
I'm happy that Rin saved her friends.
Good ending, school & her smile face. :D

They can't cover anything, they probably could do it if it were 26 episodes anime.

2nd season?
Isn't it too early to think about that?
I have seen anime that have end in the middle maybe this will be that way too. xD

So good. Oh, how I've missed you Rin.

But I'll admit Rin owning Ryuunosuke was a bit lame, yeah right she can do that.

Kariya yay.

Next episode, some Rider yay.

I haven't read the novel so this isn't a spoiler but I'm sure at least one will die. I'm guessing it'd be Caster's master. Probably by Emiya and probably will involve Rider. Caster just has to be eliminated before next half.

This has nothing to do with that. The LN chapter is focused on her failure and meddling, a lesson of humility. She should have gotten owned and rescued because she was incredibly stupid to venture into the night. There would not be a "happy ending". The episode should have mentally scarred her, not validating her sheer stupidity. She's about 6 or so, no way she could beat a serial killer who makes furniture and musical instruments out of children. Sorry.

If they are changing stuff for a "happy ending" now, people are going to be very cautious for the things to come.

while I agree this episode is somewhat weaker compared to any of the previous, I wouldn't go so far as to call it filler or completely unnecessary.

but I noticed Rin had that zettai ryouiki, even at a young age.

Arrgh. I shouldn't have been too quick to rate this episode 4/5.

But anyways, I admit this episode was somewhat thrilling, especially the parts when Rin opened that book (that was unexpectedly chilling). The animation is pretty well done too.

I think the (filler) episode is good overall, but the part where Rin had her little battle with Ryuunosuke didn't sit too well with me. Well more specifically the fact that Ryuunosuke didn't react much until after Rin broke that bracelet thing. Unless it's to show that Ryuunosuke can't see magic (which I can't remember whether he reacted to Rin's magic or not atm)...then okay. Anyhow, it just kind of bothered me how they portray Ryuunosuke handling the situation with Rin coming in to save her friend and the other kids.

Speaking of that, the outcome/ending of Rin's complete success with saving her friend ended up being too unrealistic and bit too happy compared to the one in the novel. I think it would have been better if they stick with the outcome in the novel because:
Ketuekigami said:
Fate/Zero is supposed to be a story of hopelessness and terror and Rin saving Kotone took a little from that. Her not finding Kotone in the novel felt like a stage setter for the terrible world of magic her life is gonna pass through.
Also, it would have better portrayed how dangerous and risky it really is to stay at Fuyuki when there is a Holy Grail War going on (not to mention the fact that one of the servants involved is a crazy, sadistic murderer).

But other than that, I surprisingly find this episode more enjoyable than expected. Still wish they expanded a little more on the conversation between Kariya and Aoi.

3.5/5.

Well I don't know about you all but should you not praise Rin for the following,

after all she saved kids! She is hero! It's not just the MOE, it's about saving lives!

It's also about the following,

add to that the moment in the spoiler
and you have a total Uryuu humiliation! The saying goes even a kid can beat you Uryuu! HAHAHAHA! The joy of my life especially after having been trolled by Kotone's death. TBH there is nothing more to give out to Rin then the following,

Rin you are a hero and my respect went for you over 9000! I really will respect her and understand her strong feelings of protecting people more than before TBH with this episode.

BTW I put the rest of these GIFs in the club,

Good episode,Loli Rin is soooo cute!

Loli Rin episode, what more can Rin's fans ask!!

Seeing Tokiomi other side as a father was nice he is a good father.

She being super popular in school, everyone trying to get her help was cute,Rin fighting Uryuu for the kids and destroying the bracelet was amazing she kickass on that scene!,she almost getting "rape"by the book, almost getting kill by Uryuu make her grow and make her even better mage i loved she was able to do the crystal at the end.

Kariya saving Rin and then saying what a worthless mother Aoi is and that he will save Sakura the best of all the episode.

Next episode back to the war!!

Btw Rin Gifs for the win!!

EDIT:Damn you Yume you win me in Gifs :S"...you win i will go and cry now in a corner T_T
awesome job again btw o.o

Haven't read the LN, but I did read the Fate/Stay Night VN and one of the things going on between Rin and Shiro

That whole thing wouldn't make sense if Rin had seem "children furniture" when she was 6. Not saying its cool to forget the LN and do whatever the hell they want in the anime, but maybe the episode wasn't so full of bullshit after all and might had the writer's blessing in making in more like a "prequel" to FSN and a bit less about "hopelessness and sadness." I'm sure from now on it will be about both seeing how everyone have to die for FSN to take place.

And is Ryuusuke a magus or not? Cause if he is not, and that bracelet was something caster gave him to make children follow him with rape faces(as his final comment when he is holding the broken thing suggests) than a 6 year old MAGUS actually can beat a normal person, even if that person happens to be into the people furniture business.

Am I reading way to much into a filler episode trying to piece it into nasuniverse? Probably. Isn't that what episode discussion forums are all about? ;D

It figures that the only happy ending in here would be non-canon filler material made just for the show.

Rin never found and saved Kotone or any other children in the Novel, nor did she encounter Uryuu and fight him off.

(And don't jump on me for using the word filler, it's fine if you enjoyed the episode but that's exactly what much of it was, they had to fill out an episode with just 11 pages, they made stuff up and gave entire scenes to things that were only given a single sentence's mention in the novel).

Probably. Isn't that what episode discussion forums are all about? ;D

She didn't see any children furniture in the Novel, she went out looking and then the part with Kariya showing up and saving her happened.

It's true that even a young Rin might have been able to beat Uryuu, but she never ran into him in the first place.

so rin saved the kids...ok i dont see why everyone hates this or everything else about this ep.

I dont see why its bad to have A SINGLE episode about the child of one of the masters or why its bad that for once something good happens in this story.those of you that have already read the LN should know that the happiest moment in the series is....oh wait fate zero is basically a bad ending.sakura in the first ep was enough to saw how hopeless everything is, so Rin saving the day isnt that bad.And its not like they did like deen did with sakura's route in F/SN(>_>)....

and for those that want more fights or think that the last eps were bad because they were lacking "Awesome battles".if fate/zero was only about fights between spirits i would watch Bleach and i wouldn't even touch the LN.

ufotable did a really good job until now and i really doubt they gave rin so much screentime because of her fans...

They actually "Did it".
Read Thess's Comment again about "what really happened" in the Light Novel.
